Rehearsals!
March 1st 2019 last week we had a rehearsal and went over the first scene in detail! Which resulted in understand about how many more we needed to get finished in time. We figured it would be about 10 rehearsal enough to go over each scene and have a couple full runs and a dress rehearsal. So we have planed out all the rehearsal up to till the date April 13th of the performance which pending confirmation. In fact we have rehearsal tonight!

Fine tuning and getting things
Second rehearsal where we had an out side eye happened last weekend! So we now have an order of scene and now what needs a bit more work and what just need more rehearsal. Overall the piece is seemly coming together to have a nice flow. The ending needs a bit of  work but is not far from being figure out. But next is getting all the supplies together so we can do full run of piece now know every thing we need! Like more Whit sheets and some more powerful focus lights as well as decoration for the space. We are looking to have the performance to be on April 13th 2018  in Concordia music department in room 8.265. Show probably at 7pm. hope all can come!

Getting Back to Work in a New Year
Now that the holiday busyness is over and I am no longer a dancing Disco Reindeer in Stanly Park, I can get back to my Capstone Project! So today I met with George Longshadow who is going to be the out side Eye and choreographer for the project. We choose to meet for few rehearsal at the end of January and the beginning of February. To work on the piece, its movement, and the overall flow of it. As well as to make a final set piece that Ola and I can start rehearing as the final piece. This means I need to finish a ruff cut of the composition before the end of January. Then make any changes needed after working with George Longshadow. Also over the break I applied to the Art Matter Festival. Hope i get in! it surely would make putting on the performance much less work for me but if not i have some back up plans.

It was very nice shoot and out we got 19min video which I think can be come its very own stand alone work with little be of editing but for now here is the shorten 3min version. Seen in this video we have Ola Pilatowski "shadow artist", Isaac Rosen-Purcell "clarinet player". Videographer Bronwen Moen. Editor Isaac Rosen-Purcell

Oh so much
November 16th 2018
I have much to report!! First of all  I had my First rehearsal with Ola. Many wonderful discoveries! Like my favorite so far “The Chicken Isaac” scene, as well as a dripping double shadow and more!
This Sunday we have planned a documentation session with my friend artist and photographer Bronwen Moen. As I am in the middle of making an application for Art Matters  and will need some documentation of my work in progress.
In the beginning of November I had a very clarifying hour long chat with Sandeep Bhagwati a composition professor at Concordia University. He helped trim down the process by suggesting to just work with a choreographer instead of also including a theater person. For it could make things overly complicated. Which I am glad  to have a more aerodynamic process now. We also discussed many possibilities of how to work with the body and light. The other big impact was the idea to include text from medical articles on the body and clarinet playing into my research. This text could be source material to be apart of visual presentation giving the audience an accessible way to frame the work. Unplanned addition to the project! I have also been doing research on the side in building my own programmable Digital Single Processing (DPS) Pedal for Audio. If I am successful I will have more customization and control of electron modification of my audio. If not i can still use the pedal I have already. As a composer I like the idea of knowing what process my electronic and digital devices are having on my sound, so I can choose how to incorporate them in my pieces.
I have ordered a bunch of electronic parts as well as an  Axoloti Core. I have already downloaded the Axoloti software  in which I can make digital Audio Patches and upload them onto the board. Thus i will have much detailed control on digital process affecting my clarinet. One thing I’m looking forward to is to be able to have the compressor apart of my patch to make it easier for someone to do sound for my performance cause as it is, my signal dynamic range is to large.

An Update
October 31 2018
Things are progressing!
Mostly in the building of the research methodology and logististical ways. I am going to an Art Matters artist application workshop tomorrow which will help i’m sure to find out if Art Matters would be a good fit for my project as well as help frame my application.
As for my research i am planning meetings with a couple composition professors and other Artist peers to talk about my ideas so far and get feed back, critique and potential direction. My visual artist friend is reporting they’re researching artists who have used shadow play specifically with an overhead projector, taking notes about various materials, and objects that can have interesting effects. They also have planned a meeting with a film maker who is working with projections and chemical film deterioration.  Soon the sound exploration sessions will start and then the visual exploration sessions soon after. *We also spent a night starring at the perfectly round circle a flashlight made on the wall and ceiling*It had a blue aura and a small imperfection bump*Keep an eye open for it in the performance!*

First Collaborator on Board
October 19th 2018
Yesterday I had meeting with my first collaborator Ola Pilatowski a visual artist who will be apart of the Embodied Clarinet Performance! This meeting was very useful for me and her to understand the direction of the research and the possible forms the resulting performance will take! So here a bit of peak of what came out of that meeting:
A list Potential collaborators:
-------On stage----------> Visual Artist (Ola), Clarinet Player (Isaac), maybe a Dancer
-------For rehearsal----> Choreographer,  Maybe also a Dramaturge
-------Off stage----------> Videographer, Photographer, Sound Person (maybe on stage)
A List of thing Potentially needed:
Fabric for shadow screens, overhead projector, many many lamps, flashlights, costumes, sound system, crafts for shadows, light switches, alternate ways of controlling the lights, mirrors, carpet or floor covering, rope, my Clarinet and electronic set-up.
Order of research, production, composition and rehearsal. Research and cataloging sounds, textures, and techniques that can be potentially use in composition for the idea of embodied music or embodiment. Then researching and cataloging the shadows, light and visuals that can also used use for the  idea of embodiment. Start making set pieces and costumes. Present these found visuals and sounds a to choreographer. Then have they suggest ways of enchanting and connecting these things through are movements. Also help suggest for out side eye possible groupings of moment visuals and sound. Create begging of sound composition Then consult a Dramaturge for additional dramatical advice for the piece. Finnish the exploration and Start rehearing the piece. Do final edits and finish the composition. Finish the set and costumes.
Rehearse! Perform!

Good Start with Sickness and Allergies :P
September 27th 2018
So far September has been a wash for this Project Because I have been consumed by Sickness and Allergies they take turns! But soon I should be free of this very bad timing of the both. I have looked In Funding from different student Groups at Concordia such as FASA which has project grants which I am Planning on applying too in the next week or so. Also potential venue host / partner is the art matters festival as recommended by  Christine Beckett in class. At the moment they don’t take artist application until november so i will check back in for that.
till later  Isaac
