The fact that slavery still exists may come as a shock. Slavery doesn’t just exist—in some places, it is thriving. Ending modern-day slavery will take all of us—including you. The End Modern Slavery Initiative (EMSI) will make a tremendous difference in the fight against slavery, but needs your help to make sure to get the word out. As followers of Christ we understand going from slavery of darkness in the Freedom of Light in Christ. So let's continue to Shine a light on modern day slavery. Spread the word, sign your name to IJM petition and pray for courage, boldness and God's provisions as we fight for human life! #shinealightonslavery is Feb. 23!!!

Hey Parents! These past few weeks we have been talking about dealing with conflict. We started the conversations but don’t want it to end there. Please read thru the teaching overviews and scriptures to engage your teen about the lessons. Ask them their responses to the action questions. What God impressed upon their hearts most.
And also check out the Parent Cue link at the bottom which will encourage you in parenting and give you some things to try.
TEACHING OVERVIEW: Week 1: We talked about the distractions in our lives that keep us from facing the challenges in front of us. Students learned that it’s ultimately best to face challenges, not avoid them. When we avoid challenges we miss experiencing God’s work in us and miss growing to become who He wants us to become. Bottom Line: When you face a challenge, attacking is better than avoiding. Romans 5:1-5, Col. 3:23
Week 2: We talked about what to do when we face difficult circumstances. Many of us try to escape but many times it leads to destructive actions. We turned to the book of Isaiah, where students saw that God promises to carry us through even the most challenging of circumstances when we turn to Him. We also looked to Jesus who not only lived through tough times, but was also killed and then came back to life. And through Jesus, we have hope that God, who has power over everything, can get us through anything. Because of Jesus, we can walk through our problems instead of trying to escape from them. We have a God who IS ABLE and WILLING to carry us through to the other side and going through tough circumstances reminds us that God is faithful and we can trust Him. Bottom Line: God carries us through problems, not around them. Isaiah 46:4-5
Week 3: We talked about the power of community as we face trials in our lives. Students saw that God’s desire for us is to deal with trials with the help of a community. God doesn’t waste a pain. He first desires to be the comfort for us and then for us to take our experience and be His comfort for others. This is one of the reasons church matters so much and why biblical community is so important. We need each other to speak and to be spoken to. Bottom Line: Comfort comes from community. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, James 5:13-16
We had the students think through some action steps: 1 - What do I want to Avoid Doing? What can I do to deal with it? 2 - What do I want to Avoid thinking about (escape)? What can I do to Deal with it? 3 - What do I want to Avoid talking about (in community)? What can I do to Deal with it?
