BOLD TYPE_Poster
Poster to reflect the type’s characteristic. Because the typeface is complex I wanted to keep it simple and highlight the multitude of strokes in the typeface.

BOLD TYPE_Chosen typeface style
1) Chose my favourite letter A from the workshop 2) Used the style of the A as a base for the rest of the alphabet 3) Kept writing each letter until it looked cohesive
I went with my chosen typeface as I liked the graffiti style text. I felt that it was quite expressive in comparison to my previous work. I felt that I used to be afraid of being expressive. Therefor, I took this chance to explore expressive mark making and challenge the ‘grid’. Because I challenged the grid, I had trouble having some sort of structure when vectorising it. I managed to adjust elements of each letter to have the same height and close to having the same width whilst also keeping the dramatic lines.

BOLD TYPE_Initial type workshop
1) Super experimental 2) Forget about rules
I started off the workshop with feeling excited to simply sketch out any type of type. I did not want to use my phone for inspiration. I just wanted to keep doing the same letters over and over again whilst constantly thinking of how I could make the next different to the other.

EDITORIAL FINAL CRIT
- adjust the kerning of the page numbers - done. The editorial project was a project I have never done before. I have never made a multipage editorial before so I enjoyed it very much. At the beginning I thought having plain white A4 pages as a basis was boring and unappealing. However, I learned to work with the format we needed to stick to and focused on the content and creating more of a purpose to my work (than just aesthetics).

EDITORIAL_First draft & crit
Being able to talk to Lisa Rahman (Creative Director for Elle Mag & Glamour mag) and receive feedback from her was an opportunity I really appreciated. Her insight into my editorial made me think of the things I had a blind eye to. As she has worked in the industry before, her knowledge on editorials was very expansive and insightful. Also printing the pages out was useful to see scale and the whole editorial overall. I find that its better to edit when using both the digital file and physical file so its easy to write notes etc.

EDITORIAL NOTES
I have a habit of writing down ideas that come in my head during a project. Here it is. My thought process.

EDITORIAL_Visit to Magculture and Artwords
I found that I like: - editorials that either bombard the page or have loads of empty space - was a mess but was a considered mess? - mixed physical with digital - challenged typical magazine ‘rules’ - small details causing reader to stay on page for longer - elements of interaction rather than just turning the page

EDITORIAL_Initial visual ideas
Whilst reading the essay, I sketched out ideas relating to information design and the placebo effect. I immediately visualised the text in its physical context and liked how the text and imagery joined together. I find that whenever I read something, pictures would appear in my head. Open to interpretation, I wanted to continue this idea and actually incorporate the actual text into the pictures and not have them separate and detached. Some of the sketches felt extremely typical and literal so I realised I needed to sway away from it. CCTV signs are mentioned in the text and I thought of making a fake one to convey the ‘fakery’ and how the placebo effect takes place. I wanted to have a running theme of official things being fake in actuality.
I also sketched out various layouts I could possibly use - all inspired by my visit to Magculture and Artwords

EDITORIAL_Analysing the essay
I was most interested in this essay as I felt that I could come up with more of a conceptual editorial. The essay doesn’t have many direct references to physical objects so I wanted to take on the challenge to develop imagery for it. I started by analysing the essay and wrote a list of concepts relating to information design and the placebo effect that was mentioned and not mentioned in the text. As I enjoyed studying psychology in the past, I used this as a chance to incorporate a way to photograph the ‘placebo effect’. It was quite difficult to think of ideas that would be interesting but also clearly communicate the effect. I researched into what a placebo actually is which helped in trying to visually communicate it.

16x9 EDITING & WRAP UP
I felt very up and down about the editing because at some stages I would feel very unsatisfied with the outcome and at other stages I would feel excited about it. It was not until the very end I watched the whole film and felt proud of what we had created in a short amount of time. Editing required many technical skills which I was able to learn along the way. Having never used Premier Pro, I now feel confident in using the programme. It was very time consuming but in order for our film to be what we had planned form the start of the project, we needed to be very specific with timings and sound for it to look and be effective.
