CHAPTER ONE

Mere Hours

CW: Spoilers, spoilers, SPOILERS. Blur your eyes and scroll away if you haven’t completed OMORI! There are mentions of S/H, suicidal thoughts, and mental struggles in this fic. If you are sensitive to that, then I wouldn’t recommend reading.

"I'm really happy you came to see me." Basil said. His voice shattered the daze Sunny had found himself in. He looked at his best friend who was holding a pillow as though his life depended on it. He had a lot of cuts and scrapes on him. Sunny watched as Basil's eyes focused on the patch.

"I'm sorry." He said. His eyes, red from crying, began to water again. Sunny smiled at him. Though the both of them had their roles to play in what happened to Mari, in the past, Sunny couldn't help but somewhat resent Basil. He was a memory of what had occurred. The sickening reminder of what they had done. What he had done. When he woke up in his hospital room and saw Basil was alright, he was relieved. In all the years he had wanted to avoid and forget everything, he had also forgotten that he didn't want to lose anyone else. After today, he had let go, of everything. The pain, avoidance, fear, and turmoil was over.

"It's going to be okay." Sunny finally said.

Basil's eyes widened when he heard Sunny speak. He looked like he was going to say something but changed his mind just before the words escaped. There was a clattering sound from down the hall. It grew louder by the second.

"They're going to take me away, you know." Basil said, this time unable to control himself. His tears poured down his cheeks and stained the white blanket. "I won't be able to see you before you move."

It had been a long time since Sunny had really spoken to anyone, let alone been near them. He didn't know how to help. The clattering was getting closer.

"They found out what I was going to do that night." He said, in almost a whisper. "They're all mad at us aren't they? I don't know what I am going to do when you leave."

The door opened. Basil jumped as the clattering noise grew to a stop.

"Here is your dinner, the cooks made chicken pot pie and there is even a dessert." The nurse said. She reeked of cigarettes. "What I need you to do is eat and wait here for the doctor, he will be in to see you after." She looked over to Sunny and her eyebrows raised.

"Hunny, you're supposed to be in your room right now. I'm afraid you'll have to leave. I can't discuss his details with you in here." Her assertive tone was blanketed by her soft appearance. Basil continued to cry as Sunny left his room. Sunny took one more look at his friend knowing it would only be a matter of hours before he moved. Basil gave him a weak wave as the nurse attempted to push the cart to his bed.
