The Indie Craft Parade is an annual event taking place in Greenville, SC, as a celebration and marketplace for all indie crafts and trades. All vendors are local, small businesses which create an original, hand-crafted and -designed product.
An initial look at this website presents a very warm set of colors. The main orangey-red-peach contrasts nicely with it’s contrasting teal-sky blue. These are very crisp, warm hues that, in this combination, tend to evoke a fresh or hipster aura. After these primary and secondary colors, are left a very gentle almost cream white, a darker rosy shade of the primary red color, and a light tan with darker grey-brown accents.
The key, initial points of the site are the main “Indie Craft Parade” header, in a chunky artistic red font, the script text of the description in blue, and the pale, non-offending icon of the drape of multi-colored flags. These are somewhat iconic for the Parade, as these contain the Parade’s central color pallet (rose-orange-red, teal blue, spring green, light grey, brown-black, and gold yellow) as well as actually being physically represented as key decorations at the event. Another noteworthy color point is at the top of the page, where the viewers first look. The navigation bar is the only place where this extremely appealing direct contrast of the red and teal colors takes place on the page. All other occurrences of these colors are mostly separate- but I find that the top of the page is striking because of this unique and luring contrast.
The background is a steady print of artistically-drawn elephants, the mascot of the Parade, in this primary red color, with the darker accent color. This is attractive to a viewer because the background is not solid, or loud, but interesting- this simple little happy elephant making up a subconsciously-noticed part of this webpage, representing the simple ingenuity and crafty nature of the Indie Craft businesses themselves.
The formatting is designed in blocks- One main block at the top, with the title, explanatory blurb, dates, social media links, and a teal offshoot of a navigation menu. Two more unequally distributed block follow, containing in one, a round-edged video, a red header, and a simply sans serif body of text, and in the other, a photo gallery. Below this another video takes up a giant block of webpage, without any white edging. After this, a white box banner stretches across the page depicting again the iconic “Indie Craft Parade” header and then multiple teal flags hanging from the top of the box, with sideways information and dates in a basic black and white font. A tan box, detailing the participants and products of the fair, is presented lower in the page beside an off-colored grey-green-brown box with text. Finally, a quote block at the bottom stands out because of the preeminence of the bright teal, inviting viewers to act on the quote and attend the Parade regularly.
Overall, this page, in my opinion, is extremely well designed for its graphic attractiveness and organization. The color pallet is very inventive and relaxing, giving off a general warm, neutral, yet fun atmosphere. The fonts and typography consists of very decorative or script headers with clean sans serifs text for any subsequent information. The white/cream space in many of the boxes allows for the colorful content to stand out and catch a viewers eye.
Although I am probably strongly biased in extreme favor of the Craft Parade, I find it’s webpage to be visual stimulating and inviting, a good example of successful visual communication.

"Sometimes it feels like every time I see my dad I detect a behavioural change that reminds me that his disease is progressing; a taunting reminder that we are losing him, piece by slow piece, to the world of dementia."

This ad begins with bizarre, unnatural situations in high quality video, such as snow in Africa, penguins flying, random trees catching fire, households objects levitating, fish raining from the sky, and a priest stealing a flatscreen tv in full view of a police officer. This cacophony of strange and chaotic events culminate with the Earth disintegrating into the atmosphere, with helpless astronauts flailing about, until it cuts to a deep, white-paneled room. On a platform of clouds within, sits a man dressed in white, holding a phone, flashing a 'dead battery' symbol. With an quiet, exasperated "Gosh Darnit", the man shakes his head, and a line is displayed, cheekily stating "When your phone dies, God know what can happen." A 2-second display of a cellphone battery pack is shown before the company name and logo, mophie, with the hashtag 'staypowerful.'
Audience
The audience of this Superbowl 2015 ad would've been the millions tuning in to one of the most-watched events of the year, including mostly Americans, sports-fans, and those really watching for the entertaining commercials.
Purpose
The commercial is advertising Mophie, a 'juice pack' battery case for smartphones, and uses absurd situations and humor to grab audience attention towards this purpose.
Delivery
Mophie's delivery is especially clever in that they satirically mock the 'catastrophe' of having one's phone go dead because of low battery power, by setting it on a grand, rather godly scale. Playing on the phrase "God knows what can happen", the video intros with a series of ridiculous and bizarre happenings, which grab ones attention, keeping the audience questioning and hooked. Just as things on Earth get really bad, the whole ordeal is revealed as  "God's" phone having simply gone dead, as he sighs very nonchalantly while the world spirals to chaos beneath him. This reveal is humorous and draws the audience to appreciate the wittiness of the company, allowing them to see a hint of how silly it is to freak out over a phone being dead and yet not offending viewers by marketing a product that will fix this tiny, if silly, problem- and to make sure it never turns into such a catastrophic meltdown.
Evidence
Although it is not literal, factual evidence, the entire commercial is a play upon the evidence for why one's phone should never go dead. Think of all the chaos that could ensure, the video beckons you to think, not quite of this magnitude, but maybe close...
Overall, the content, wit, and delivery of this commercial is truly well-made and effective. Although viewers might not currently have need of a 'cellphone battery juice pack', this video made them smirk, in the least, and therefore has found a place in the audience's good graces, possibly leading them to buy from Mophie if the need arises.

From left to right to bottom, this is an email issued "by Clemson Univeristy Media Relations" to all students concerning the recent change in winter weather and class cancellations.
The email is directed at Clemson students and faculty, so it is very concise and direct, informing the recipients of the sudden change in weather and the closing of the campus. This allowed students to know that their classes after 2:30 were canceled and to be careful when traversing campus.
The intent of the email is to inform both students and faculty of not only the campus closing, but also the changes in bus and dining hall schedules.
Essentially, an appeal to logic is made in that all the information mentioned is accurate and direct, based on true and factual events.

Essentially, this billboard advertises the Atlanta-area “Reliable Heating and Air Company”, with an intended audience of local resident and homeowners who want to stay warm in the winter. Depicted in the billboard are the soles of a baby’s feet with the phrase “Cozy Toesies!” in a script font. This might appeal to any driver passing by, especially to parents with small children- imagining her children having to suffer through cold winter nights might compel a multi-tasking mother to add to her mental notes to call an HVAC company just for a check-up. The visual imagery immediately brings to mind a parent’s responsibility to their children, and the font tends to evoke a warm, cozy aura, similar to having a warm home when the weather outside is frightful.
The billboard was placed in a highly residential area just north of Atlanta, around Alpharetta, which would be the target audience. This target group already knows that a warm home is a must in the winter, and would probably react by at least giving a thought to their own home and heating system, and whether or not is functioning properly or has been checked in a while. The image of the baby feet, most generally viewed with a soft heart, would be considered pathos as immediately the viewer might have a general desire to keep any helpless baby properly cared for. The company’s very name “Reliable” could be considered ethos, as might the fact that they are a local business. Logos might be inferred from the immediate responsibility felt by a viewer to make sure all in their homes are happy. This seems to be a very simple and direct argument, leaving a little hint in the mind of the viewer if nothing at all.
