I've tasted employment. I've tasted unemployment. I suggest money should start growing on trees so I can buy whatever I want.

This whole time I was like “I wanna see Helena at her house when she’s actually by herself and doesn’t have to perform for anyone.” BUT NO! SHE LIVES WITH JAME. AND HE CONTROLS HER AT HOME TOO! SHE IS NEVER FREE. SHE’S LIKE THE INNIES SHE GOES INTO THAT ELEVATOR AND GETS MAYBE A SECOND OF FREEDOM BEFORE SHE IS PUT BACK INTO HER CAGE.

I haven't seen Severance, but from the discourse, it sounds like there may be two types of fans:
1.) people who think both the innies and outies should be treated fairly.
2.) people who think that the severed piece of their consciousness doesn't deserve fairness and should shut up and do their job so the rest of the consciousness doesn't have to.
that feels like an oddly relevant division, but I'm missing a whole lot of context, so please feel free to help me understand better.
#you're right#some people watched the show about what being a person means and went “huh. guess some of these people aren't people”

"we shouldn't fight to improve [small thing] because it's just a symptom of [big thing]" okay well big thing is too big to fall on it's own, so I'm gonna start by fighting to improve small thing, and once enough small things have fallen that people have the time and energy and bandwidth to fight then we can fight big thing, because until then all of the small things are weighing every potential fighter down to the point that they can't get out of fucking bed, let alone fight big thing.

Maybe don't say 'cruelty is the point' when the point is clearly
profit
upholding and strengthening white supremacy / cisheteronormativity / the patriarchy / the nation state
upholding their own conspiracy-fueled worldview
distracting, exhausting or creating division among their enemies
Our enemies can be incredibly cruel, but they often still have things they want to achieve. We fight them most effectively by recognizing what they want, and what we can do to prevent them from getting what they want.
