There was a meat market here and an abattoir not far from where this was shot. The killing was done down here and the market was up those steps. The name not so cunning or macabre as it sounds eh? #Fleshmarket equals meat market. Simple. Most closes follow the same pattern in the #Old #Town, generally named after a profession, prominent or famous resident or the most wealthy person to lay home here down the years.... . Sorry folks; I just canny do it. I was going to but the wee matter of principles and my own reasons means you wont be seeing any ferris wheels, ice-rinks, white knuckle spinning things or anything else adorning Princes Street, George Street or surrounding this year. I refuse. Not a grinch, I'm just not interested in all that. ....however, I do like Christmas. Rather than all that malarkey, here's an ancient #church with a #Christmastree and a few #festive #lights on the High Street which is far more to my liking and it will cost the viewer absolutely nowt! St Giles at #Christmas on a nice long exposure and some shiny wet cobbles... . (at St Giles' Cathedral)

Well the middle of November hails the start of #Christmas in Edinburgh (!) ...yep, somebody, somewhere decided there was no need to follow a couple of thousand years of tradition and just kick off on the 19th November. Still, wont go all humbug or even near it. I'll just share a shot of Edinburgh's Christmas past and be done with it as I do like this one...ho ho and more ho 🎅 . (at Edinburgh's Christmas)

A #castle, in Edinburgh, by night, with #stars, #flags blowing in the wind and a seriously long exposure to get the colours like this from what was a #black #sky to the naked eye. Nothing quite like having a medieval castle to yourself with the stars overhead and nothing much else to intrude on your moment of oneness with the ancient masterpiece..... (at Edinburgh Castle)

The view looking back down on the #Old #Town from the #Castle #Esplanade. The #lights and stepped gable ends of the #Grassmarket are clearly visible as is #Greyfriars #Kirk, alit for weekend service. You can also see a number of places and of course, the beacon that is Heriots (#Hogwarts inspiration) to the centre right of the shot....#Old #Edinburgh from on high of an evening...... . Taken from my favourite spot anywhere in the #Old #Town to shoot the #castle; with the #Grassmarket below, #Cowgatehead to the left and the #Cowgate itself to the right. I've spent so much time in this part of the Old Town down the years, it's probably ingrained in my head forever.... . (at Edinburgh, United Kingdom)

When they lit the #castle #red, they also lit some other #buildings across Edinbrugh and Scotland. I didn't shoot them all. In fact, I didn't shoot any others. Except, #stgilescathedral I couldn't let this one slip by now, could I.... . (at St Giles' Cathedral)

#EdinburghCastle still lit up #red for #Remembrance Sunday. Still as poignant as it was 24 hours ago. Still cold outside but still worth being outside to capture the majesty. Combine the red Castle with the age old thoroughfare we all know and love as The Vennel and you'll get something looking like this... . (at Edinburgh Castle)

Just back from shooting the #OldTown . It's two degrees celsius up at the #castle right now and dropping like a stone in water. However, the fifteen minutes I spent up there getting this one just right was worth it. . Edinburgh Castle lit in red for #ArmisticeDay. A fitting tribute to all war dead, everywhere, on all sides. . #Lestweforget... . (at Edinburgh Castle)

...meanwhile on the #Canongate near the foot of the #Royal #Mile, someone has left a light on above Bakehouse Close in Huntly House, with a nice wee glimmer of light keeping the ancient #archway illuminated. There is nowhere quite like the #Old #Town of our fair old Edinburgh... . (at Royal Mile)

It's cold, cold and more cold out there folks. Very few people currently pacing the streets of #Auld #Reekie; closes are empty, streets deserted and nothing but drinking establishments look warm and inviting! Anyway, they lit up the #Balmoral #Clock #red for #remembrance #Sunday, the lights being red all weekend. Here's how it looked a wee while ago.... . (at Edinburgh, United Kingdom)
