one of the greatest/funniest things about being a mdtb shipper is that you simply cannot explain it to a random passerby.

Like okay so there is this very popular show, called Naruto about a little ninja/shinobi guy who is shunned by his entire village for reasons yet to be revealed but despite this wants to prove himself to them and become their super ninja leader president or Hokage, the show follows him, a girl he has a crush on, a traumatized boy with special magic eyes, and their chronically late sensei. This show is in two parts and has 720 total episodes, many of which are filler - so as for the ship: you meet Tobirama first... sort of, for like a couple of minutes in episode 69 and then don't see him again for another 521 episodes, as for Madara well we don't actually meet him until episode 322 of the second part (so 542 episodes in), the two of them do not appear on screen at the same time until episode 367 of part 2 (so 587 episodes in), which notably takes place in a flashback because - surprise every time we have seen either of them up to this point (which mind you is barely at all) they have actually been dead/reanimated corpses. Including both flashbacks and reanimation they talk to each other maybe a total of three times (and that is definitely a generous guess). Madara for sure most definitely hates Tobirama because Tobirama killed Madara's last living brother back when they were both alive and fighting on opposite sides of a war between their two clans. Madara is very unpersonable and only ever had one friend, that friend is Tobirama's older brother - his most displayed character trait is that he is very very strong, with a LOT of chakra and loves a good fight - also he is another person with super special magic eyes. Tobirama is also seemingly pretty unpersonable, and his biggest character trait is that he has the mind of a jurassic park scientist which he uses to create many questionable or chakra intensive jutsus (including the one that reanimated the both of them), he is also implied to be one of the greatest sensors of all time and appears to hold a big grudge against Madara's clan. so anywa-

oh? what? why do I ship it? Well one day i was reading Naruto fics and stumbled across a Mdtb fic and it was such a masterpiece that I kept reading more and more bc the mdtb fic game is honestly S tier.

au in which tobirama is not ugly or hot, but a secret third thing (kinda weird-looking but not in a bad way) because he mostly just looks like a senju but with an insane color palette. for like five guys out there he's the sexiest man alive, and for everyone else he's the least attractive member of the founders.

So the thing about Mdtb fanon that really drives me crazy (/pos) is that in most Founder's Era fanon (or at least in most of what I've read), Madara's 3 other brothers some variation of older than him (sometimes all of them sometimes just one of them, point is he's rarely the eldest). And so, particularly in the ones where all three are older than him, the dynamic is literally An Elder Brother Whose Circumstances Have Forced Him to Become the Youngest Brother (Tobirama the second son of four) / A Younger Brother Whose Circumstances Have Forced Him to Become the Eldest Brother (Madara the second to last son of five).

Imagine you are a child and your whole identity revolves around your siblings, you and your brother are the eldest brothers, your job is to take care of the younger ones, only now they are gone and you are now the youngest. That is Tobirama's lot.

Imagine you are a child and your whole identity revolves around your siblings, you and your brother are the youngest brothers, the babies, you don't have a job but you doggedly follow your elder brothers' footsteps because they are who you look up to most, only now they are gone and you are now the eldest. That is Madara's lot.

Now imagine, a boy who was supposed to be a caretaker but had that ripped from him grows up and falls in love with a man who was once a boy that was supposed to be taken care of.

I always imagined the Niidaime to be a strict teacher who held his students to a very high standard-- a remnant of his own upbringing. Nonetheless, an excellent teacher and a man all his students admired, which only made the sting harsher when they ended up disappointing him.

They’ve tried. Many times, with vigor. despite all efforts of dear mama (cough, sorry, Hashirama), a substantial dowry, and tearful cajoling...Tobirama is simply the fucking worst and nobody wants him (he does not care. Hashirama cares enough for ten of him.)

like the candidates WANT him (carnally) but he just drives anyone and everyone off within seconds of talking to him by being so deeply offputting and unpleasant and intense and it’s reaching a point where the ambassadors of new clans very quickly note that they have no available eligible members for marriage, just to head off the agony of having to get caught like slow walkers in a busy fishmarket and dragged to discuss another attempted arranged marriage with the second Senju son

in an uncommon tactical blunder Madara (+assorted Uchiha family) stood still long enough post-peace treaty and suddenly tobirama’s being shoved to the front and there’s an awful lot of strained senju smiles (scary) and that is definitely the sound of someone lugging a great big dowry chest out of storage over the floor with desperation (scarier)
