The sad part of MJ being a model/actress being conflated with her beauty is that there was a real narrative reason behind MJ having that career. It was something she pursued because she was putting on a facade & acting in front of others to hide her own pain and trauma. But thanks to misogyny, we'll never get that explored on the big screen. Because men think it's stupid and makes MJ lesser than compared to when they make her a journalist or put her in some other male-dominated field. And because they equate it to being all about her looks. Zendaya is an actress/model herself and does that make her shallow? No. But somehow it would make MCU MJ shallow and I'll never understand that. Letting her have her comic canon career would only add upon the very Mary Jane essence they've bestowed upon MCU MJ.

Knowing now that Sleeper actually picked out Rick Jones to be Toxin's host is actually kind of sweet?? Like, don't get me wrong; What Sleeper did is still 500% uncool and Rick did not deserve that.

But it makes PERFECT sense. Sleeper did the research. They picked out someone who would match Toxin's level of empathy, has experience sharing his body (so less time wasted figuring out the logistics while they escape prison), has combat experience, and would probably be sympathetic to a helpless alien who was unjustly imprisoned & starved.

If only Sleeper had just asked him upfront 🙃

Thoughts & predictions based on the leaked spoiler panel, which i'm placing below the cut.

Spoilers for All-New Venom #9:

I don't think we're done with Paul. He's a tenacious little barnacle; I anticipate him trying to "save" MJ from the "evil mind-controlling parasite" that he thinks is forcing her to break up with him.

I am SO curious to see how Paul treats Dylan after the breakup. More than likely he'll treat the kid pretty coldly, if they interact at all, but...

It would be so fascinating if Paul doubled down on trying to be a father figure in Dylan's life, especially if his whole angle is "saving" MJ from the symbiotes. If she's in their thrall, surely Dylan must be, too! He'll save them both, and then they'll be SO grateful and treat him with the respect they SHOULD have been giving him from day one!

Also something something Paul projecting his own daddy issues onto Dylan. Maybe he assumes the relationship between Dylan and Eddie mirrors the one Paul had with Ben Rabin, and THAT'S why Dylan is so emotionally attached to the symbiote, so Paul is trying to give the kid another way out.

An idea I tossed around in my head early in the run was Paul trying to win Dylan over by bribing him with superpowers. Like fitting him with a less-powerful version of the Jackpot device, giving him the opportunity to do "hero" work, but only on Paul's terms. The way I imagined it Dylan rejected the bribe, recognizing it as a way Paul could exert control over him. If Paul tries something like this to try to win Dylan over, I still think he'd reject it for the same reason.

Then again, if Paul thought it was for Dylan's own good, is there anything really stopping him from crafting another jackpot device & forcing it onto Dylan's wrist? Or doing something else with his father's weird brand of math magic? "I know what's best for you, you'll thank me for this later when you're free from that thing's influence," etc etc.

Pretty sure Dylan is going to end up bonding with Toxin.

Dylan and Sleeper want different things out of a host bond. Dylan needs emotional vulnerability & transparency, but those are things Sleeper isn't comfortable providing, not even to its brother. Meanwhile Sleeper wants a meat suit to pilot around and it would NEVER treat Dylan with that kind of disrespect. Sleeper and Dylan do love each other dearly, but their personalities simply aren't compatible enough to turn that love into a long-term host bond.

Toxin? Toxin couldn't keep its thoughts and feelings to itself if it tried. It wants companionship the same way Dylan does. It wants to feel heard & validated, Dylan wants to feel loved and needed. I think they'd be amazingly compatible.

As much as I joke about those voice headcanons being Objectively Correct, the only ones I would never budge on are Clancy Brown as Eddie Brock & Lorraine Toussaint as Sleeper.
