Have Fun in Singapore with Your Family
Nothing beats an experience you have with your family, like traveling! And Singapore has become one of the ideal destinations for families to visit for vacations. Moreover, the best thing about exploring in a small country like Singapore is that you can visit many places by bicycle. But if you don't have a bike or don't want to put in the extra kilometers to get to the meeting point, you can always rent a bike closer to your planned cycling route.
Additionally, cycling is one of the many outdoor activities available in Singapore. You can rent a bicycle from Coastline Leisure and explore the city with your family. Now, let's look at Singapore's best cycling routes and bike trails.
Round Island Route
The round island loop is primarily for experienced cyclists. However, a beginner-friendly route around Singapore will be available for regular cyclists. With a total distance of 150 kilometers and a network of interconnected park connectors, you can now enjoy a leisurely ride on the flat pavement while surrounded by the best of Singapore's nature. The best part is that this route includes scenic coastal boardwalks and lookouts to watch the sunrise or sunset!
Mandai Loop
This route is for all you spinning enthusiasts as you tackle a loop around Singapore's central catchment reserve, spinout cycling in low gear to climb steep slopes to your heart's content. While the scenery is beautiful and relaxing, keep in mind that this route includes some challenging climbs.
Mount Faber Loop
Don't ever be fooled by the route's short distance; you're in for a challenging workout. After all, Mount Faber is Singapore's highest point. Moreover, due to the apparent elevation or steepness of the slopes, this route is ideal for both inexperienced and experienced riders, with only timing differences.
Seletar Loop
It is a ring road that circles the Seletar Aerospace Park and is popular among local cyclists. However, because most of this route is on the road, it is recommended that only experienced road cyclists attempt it. Aside from being a fun loop to test your strength and hit personal best timings, Seletar Aerospace Park is also home to several popular cafes, such as Soek Seng 1954 Bicycle Cafe and Sunset Grill you can relax after your ride.
Rower's Bay Park
Rower's Bay Park is an excellent segment for cyclists to have a leisurely morning or evening ride, and it is also child friendly. In addition, you'll be able to experience nature up close at the boardwalks. The wetland area lies just off the popular cycling route that connects Yishun and Punggol.
Northern Explorer Loop
A ride that will provide you with both a good workout and an educational experience. You can take your time riding along this 25-kilometer route while admiring nature. Follow the breeze from Sembawang Park to Woodlands Waterfront Park and then to Admiralty Park, a mangrove swamp. Keep an eye out for mudskippers!
East Coast Park
Even if you don't live in Singapore's east, you've probably visited East Coast Park at least once in your life, especially if you've completed NS! With a distance of 15 kilometers, this is an ideal location for a weekend trip with the family for a casual ride.

A Cyclist's Guide to Basic Bike Repair
Bicycle maintenance is essential for all types of riders. Whether you ride your bike to work, race, or go out on the trails once a month, you need to stay on top of essential maintenance to avoid dangerous conditions and costly surprises. A regular tune-up ensures that bicycles are safe, steady, and trouble-free. Bike maintenance is a broad topic. We'll start with a pre-ride inspection, securing bolts, and cleaning and lubricating key components. Don't forget to have your bike regularly serviced by a mechanic.
Even if that's the case, every time you have to take your ride in for a repair, you spend less time riding and almost always spend more money. As a result, learning some basic repair skills that you can do at home can save you both time and money. So here's your guide to basic bicycle repairs.
Fixing a flat tire
Before looking for holes, check the tire pressure. Locate the intended air pressure range for each tire, which is usually printed on the smooth side of the tire, to ensure that the tires are properly inflated. Use a bike pump with a tire pressure gauge to find the sweet spot. Also, unless you enjoy exploding tires, avoid using gas station air pumps, which are incredibly powerful and can blow out smaller bicycle wheels when changing a tire. Check around inside the tire for any foreign objects, such as a small piece of gravel or glass, that could cause another flat. Prior to inflating a new tube, make sure it isn't caught between the rim and the tire. If the tires immediately begin to sag, you have a puncture. It's always good to bring a spare inner tube when you travel.
Repairing a Slipped Chain
A snagged chain can turn a pleasant ride into a nightmare. It usually falls out of the rear cogset and the front chainring (part of the crank). Return the chain to the bottom groove of the rear cog first. Once the chain is attached to the cog, drape it over the teeth on the top of the front chainring. The final step is to reconnect the rear cogset to the front chainring. When the chain is in the proper position, slowly advance the pedal, which will pull the chain around the entire chainring and back to the cogset. If the chain keeps falling off, likely, it's too long for the bike frame.
Fixing a stuck seat
Nothing is worse than dealing with a stuck seat that is too high or too low, as anyone who has ever had a hand-me-down bike knows. The first step is to loosen the binder and remove the collar and bolt altogether. Next, soak the entire problem area in WD-40 and leave it alone overnight to allow the spray to work. If the seat still won't move, grab the saddle and twist the post-free. If stuck, use a clamp and pliers to turn and pull the pieces apart. Keep the post and tube clean and greased to avoid a sticky situation. Mark the appropriate height on the seat with electrical tape before removing it from the box. Wipe down the post and tube with a clean rag, smear some grease in the line and on the post, and reassemble everything.
Lubricate your chain
Examine your chain and all of the gears. Keeping your chain lubricated and everything clean will help your bike shift more manageably, and the drivetrain, which includes the front chainrings, rear cassette, rear derailleur, and chain, will last longer.

Bicycle Repair and Maintenance: Why is it Important to do?
Every biker must repair and maintain and keep in good shape their bicycle. In this way, the bike will be used for a longer time, and the owner will not worry about other major damages that can hinder their ride. So, what other reasons should be taken into action as to why a bike should be maintained? How important is the repair?
Prevent the Rust
There are times when a biker gets caught out in sudden rain. When this happens, rainwater will stick or be left out in any bike part. If it is ignored and unaddressed, the tendency is that the moisture will turn into rust afterwards. It will then be difficult to remove since rust will coat the area where it all started to form. The best thing to do is always check your bike every time you use it and have it lubricated with a water dispersant.
Keep you Safe
One of the reasons why other cyclists have accidents is that they might ignore small or slight damages to their bikes. Unfortunately, if that minor detail is overlooked, it will become bigger and bigger over time. So if you have damages, whether big or small, it is advisable to fix it or try to ask for help from an experienced mechanic. In addition, a faulty bicycle should be serviced regularly to ensure that all parts work well.
Have a Smooth Ride
Aside from ensuring your safety, bicycle maintenance will give you the smoothest ride. A professional mechanic will help you check and evaluate the parts of your bike, what needs to be adjusted and fixed. He will also point out the complex parts that are difficult to maintain. After the tune-up, you’ll feel that there is something different with the bike you used to ride on. It is now smoother and easier to ride on than the days you struggled to maneuver it.
Keep the Chain and Tyre Pressure in Good Shape
It is an owner’s job to check and keep everything in good shape, may it be the small parts or the bigger ones. Chains should be safeguarded well since common damage occurs in this part. If it isn’t taken care of immediately, the damage will be sustained. The same goes with the tyre pressure, which bikers would sometimes overlook. If the pressure in the tyre is low, it will slowly deteriorate, which causes the buckled rim to damage the brake. If you don’t want it to happen, be keen and observe your bike. If you’ve noticed something suspicious, have the experts check it.
Save your Money from Serious Damage
Sometimes, people overlook minor problems. They either choose to ignore these things or forget to attend to them. Like a house that needs to be repaired if a leak is present, bicycles should be maintained. It will help you cut a huge cost since you’ve avoided the problem from the very beginning. You can save money on costly repairs by doing regular maintenance.
To become a biker, you should know what you should do to keep your bike working well. You check, look and inspect every part of your bike. If you’ve noticed something suspicious or questionable, don’t use it for now and visit a bicycle repair shop. If you want an experienced mechanic to do the work, Coastline Leisure is ready to give your bikes in Singapore a new lease of life. Top Tips For Beginners Cycling in Singapore
There’s not a doubt that cycling is an excellent outdoor activity for all ages. It’s both an exercise and an adventure where you enjoy new experiences and views while burning calories effectively. Also, it’s a good solution to save up on daily transportation to work, and it greatly helps the environment through reduced emission of harmful fumes. But going on a cycling trip is not the same as cycling to work or leisurely cycling along the bay. Instead, there are plenty of preparations to be made, bike rentals to think about, and a few things to pack. So with that, here are a few tips for beginners planning a cycling trip in the many trails of Singapore.
Plan Your Route (Including Your Rest Stops) With the recent cycling craze in the country, many places stepped up their game by providing amazing cycling trails. While spontaneous trips are good and all, it’s always better to plan your journey when cycling since you need to know the area. It will not do well to aimlessly wander and make a wrong turn—the worst-case scenario: getting lost when you’re supposed to be enjoying your weekend.
It’s also always best to include your rest stops when planning your route. These are places where you can take quick breaks to replenish your drinks, eat your snacks, and take toilet breaks.
Before Anything Else, Warm Up Like all types of exercises, it’s important to stretch and warm up first before cycling. And while many would think that leg and thigh stretches are much more important in cycling since it’s basically a leg sport, you also need to work on your arms, hands, and neck. This is mainly because you’ll basically hold the same posture the whole time. The upper half of your body should be stretched before your trip, and if you feel numb along the way, don’t hesitate to stop. Unless you’re part of a race, cycling isn’t really a race.
Pack The Essentials (And Pack Lightly) There are two main things that you should pack for the trip. First is a mini tool kit that will help with small bicycle repairs if you ever have problems along the way. You don’t want to leave your bike to go look for help whenever problems arise. You can strap the mini tool kit on your bike with Velcro for convenience. You may also include some wet wipes since you may get dirty during the repairs. The second thing to pack is a first aid kit to ensure that you have the right items to treat wounds in case of accidents on the trail.
Quick (Thorough) ABC Check The ABC of cycling is Air, Brakes, and Chain. A quick ABC check is always recommended before your trip. Although, we urge all bikers to conduct a more thorough inspection to make sure that everything is up to standard. Air or A is to check tire pressure and possible damages. Brakes or B is to review related cables and test them out. And finally, Chain or C is to make sure that your chains are lubricated and not rusty.
Gear Up It’s important to gear up the right way when cycling, especially at night, since you’ll be exposed to traffic on the highway. The best tip is to wear something bright and visible. Also, choose your cycling gloves right. They should be able to soak up the sweat to keep your hands dry and grip the handlebar more safely. It’s also important that they are padded to cushion your hands from the constant vibrations when cycling.
In addition, ensure that you have sufficient blinker lights attached to the front and back of your bike. This keeps you safe on the road, making your bike visible at night and during times when there is low visibility.
Where To Find Bicycle Rental Services For Your Cycling Trip? If you’re gearing up for your cycling trip and you’re looking for bicycle rental services in East Coast Park and SAFRA Punggol, check out Coastline Leisure today. Why Take Up Night Cycling In Singapore
Nightly activities in Singapore have changed over the years, further encouraged by the global pandemic that restricted group activities with people in close proximity. Instead of enjoying clubs, KTVs and steamboats at night, youngsters are pressed to look for other activities that are safe and fun, such as cycling. This is the main reason why many bicycle rental services have been popping up in Singapore. The cycling craze was kick-started by COVID-19. Today, leisure cyclists and enthusiasts whizzing past you is an everyday occurrence.
But, why are a lot of people invested in cycling? Is it really just a craze? Here are some reasons why people have been taking up cycling around the country.
It improves the immune system. Cycling is not only a type of leisure activity, but it’s also an effective way of exercising to improve the immune system. It has excellent benefits in strengthening the upper respiratory system, giving you better lung health. Moreover, those who cycle are less exposed to dangerous fumes than those who travel by car.
It strengthens mental well-being. Those who are physically active have stronger well-being, unlike those who are inactive, according to a YMCA study that confirmed how cycling makes people 32% happier. As a form of exercise, cycling helps release adrenaline and endorphins that chemically boost our mood. On the other hand, it also improves confidence by achieving goals through cycling. More than a form of exercise, cycling also allows you to explore the outdoors and enjoy great views.
It promotes weight loss. In the previous sections, we’ve repeatedly mentioned how cycling is a good form of exercise. It’s a great way to burn excess calories. As a result, it helps in your weight-loss goals for the year. What makes it more effective than other forms of exercise is that it’s an enjoyable activity. Instead of being stuck in the gym and doing your routine indoors to lose weight, you are instead exploring and enjoying the great outdoors while losing weight. All in all, cycling is a win-win situation, whether you get your own bike or get one from bicycle rental services such as Coastline Leisure that offer a wide selection of bikes.
It expands social networks. While cycling leisurely around the bay is a great activity to unwind and have some time to yourself and your thoughts, there’s actually a whole social network behind you when you become a cyclist. This is mainly attributed to how cycling is considered a social sport. You’ll find cycling clubs that meet each other every weekend to journey around a trail together and at a speed that allows members the chance to catch up with others, grow their network, and gain new friendships.
It’s a bonding activity for the whole family. Cycling is also a bonding experience. Bicycle rental services such as Coastline Leisure provide a variety of bicycles to suit different needs and customer types. For instance, you can rent child bikes with side wheels and tricycles for non cyclists. Of course, for those who are expert cyclists, there are also premium bikes available to help you cover longer distances.
All in all, cycling is a fun experience for the entire family whether old, young, and even pregnant. So, make sure to look for a one stop bicycle rental shop that has options for everyone!
What Are Other Activities You Can Do At Night In Singapore? Below are a few other nightly activities you may enjoy in Singapore: ● Roller Skating - Other than cycling, you can also glide along the bay and other parts of Singapore by roller skating. It is beginner friendly, and there are also available rollerblades for rent in many establishments including Coastline Leisure. ● Night Walk Tour - This is great for tourists visiting Singapore and enjoying its night views. But, it’s also good for those who simply want a nightly walk to savor the famous skyline of the country. ● Escape Room - These rooms have been very popular lately and you can find the largest escape room in Xcape SG with a variety of themed rooms to choose from. ● Bowling - After dinner with friends, you can head over to the bowling alley with great beats and neon lights where you score strikes while jamming out tunes by the DJ.

Outdoor Activities You Should Try in 2022
With already 80% of the population fully vaccinated, Singaporeans are more confident about leaving their homes and enjoying outdoor activities with their family and friends. So, if you are planning to finally enjoy the great outdoors (with due caution, of course) during the new year, here are some of the top activities you should include on your bucket list. These activities are also kid-friendly, giving your kids the chance to experience nature and fresh air away from their gadgets.
Hiking Singapore offers countless hiking trails to its residents and tourists. There's Pulau Ubin, Kranji Marshes, Fort Canning Park, Macritchie Treetop Walk, The Learning Forest, and more. Admittedly, Singapore does not have many tall mountains for a long nature hike. However, this is remedied by various nature reserves and parks filled with lush greenery and stunning boardwalks. Hiking is one of the best ways to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Just remember to put on some sunscreen and insect repellent lotions to explore each hiking trail with no worries.
Roller Skating If you’d like to explore the city instead, then you can take advantage of Singapore’s smooth flat terrain and park connectors by roller skating! A lot of residents love the sport because of its many health benefits and how fun it is either solo or with friends and family. Admittedly, it will require practice and the right gear from rental establishments such as Coastline Leisure for roller blades, protection pads, helmets, and more.
Fortunately, there are tutorial sessions where you can learn how to skate offered by places such as People’s Association, SkateXtreme, and Skateline. Some of these facilities also allow you to choose where the sessions will be held, depending on the package. With that, below are the places where you can try out your roller skating skills: ● Void Decks ● Singapore Sports Hub ● East Coast Park ● Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park ● North Eastern Riverine Loop
Roller skating is also a famous nightly activity in Singapore since it’s a time when people can explore and enjoy the sport without the heat, only a cool breeze and beautiful nightlights.
Riding A Bike Cycling has been really popular in Singapore in recent years, and many trails have been created. Moreover, night cycling has also been made safe and possible for many enthusiasts and regular riders who would like to avoid the heat of the day to enjoy cycling. Some of the most popular trails include: ● East Coast Park ● Macritchie Reservoir ● Singapore Round Island Loop ● Jurassic Mile ● Marina Bay Loop ● Punggol Waterway Park; and more
For the more experienced cyclists, mountain trails such as the Bukit Timah offer quite an adventure. On the other hand, if you simply want to enjoy cycling leisurely, then check out the Marina Bay Loop and other easy/intermediate trails. Finally, if you're ready to start cycling, Coastline Leisure is a convenient 24 hour bike rental and repair service company that can help you out.
Bonus: Kayak Fishing For those who want to enjoy the outdoors at sea, then kayak fishing is a suitable adventure for you. It's a popular weekend activity in Singapore for enthusiasts, but beginners are always welcome to try it out. Many people grow to love kayak fishing since it's a great way to relax and bond with family and friends. Kids are also welcome as long as there are professionals/adults nearby to guide them. It's the best way to introduce them to the rich natural sea environment of the country.
Ready for your new year's adventure? We hope that this list of outdoor activities gives you brilliant ideas on what fun things you can do with your family and friends in 2022!
