“He is a special type of man, your father.” Tatia agreed with a warm laugh. He was certainly far more than she had bargained for, but she had never expected to love a third Mikaelson. It was all a miracle, just like her having come back to life at all, but it wasn’t one she was ever going to question. Never again was she ever going to take for granted the family she had. A quiet puff of joy slipped out of Tatia’s lips as she tightened her arms around her son in response. “You have no idea,” she admitted softly. Knowing any of her children were safe, let alone happy or back with her, was all she had wanted for so long. Nothing would ever change that. “Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten how to share in sixteen years.” Tatia teased, a bright smile on her face and in her eyes as she pulled away slightly to look up at him. “Though for the time being, you don’t have to worry. We have all day.”

“So when do we tell you that none of us kids ever learned what sharing is?” He asked as he raised his eyebrows looking over at her. Sure Colt understood in the general idea of it, but when it came to parents? It was a concept that went over his head. Especially with sixteen years apart from them. “Unless their name is Henry I don’t think I ever learned how to share, and even he’s a special case.” He shook his head as he stepped back in order to really get a look at her, “but we also know you’re greedy too so it’s okay. Besides I’m sure you want to hear all about what I was up to.”

Slowly, but still surely, Alison was getting used to being in Mystic Falls. It wasn’t the city itself so much as the fact that she was actually within the same world as her family again. She could see her parents and Natalia and Dimitri and know that Kellan was nearby. Her family was scattered, but slowly coming back together. Maybe it was for the best it wasn’t all at once; god knew Ali hadn’t handled it the best, and even knowing Henry was way more well-adjusted than she ever had been, it was still a lot. Still, when she pulled the door open and caught sight of her younger brother, a grin spread quickly across her face. “You know, if it wasn’t for mom saying she’d seen you, I was going to start thinking Kellan and Liz were sharing some weird, smart-people hallucination or something.” Alison teased, letting out a laugh. “It’s about time you showed up.” 

Colton didn’t bother hiding his smile from his sister as he reached up carding his fingers through his own hair. “I was trying to give Henry space. We might be getting old but that doesn’t mean I don’t remember the hell that it was to adjust to having people around suddenly like our family,” he reminded her knowing all too well that she would understand what he meant by it all. “But it is good to see you, Alison. Trust me it took all the self control I had in order to be a good uncle for Henry.”

“You still loved me after I flipped the switch, Colton. I’m perfectly clear on how much you must love me. And I know how much I love you.” She had known that long before she had been able to tell him, regardless of how much shit Alison had given her once she figured it out. He had been a lot more than just her best friend for a long time. Elizabeth sucked in a sharp breath and pressed her face into his shoulder, squeezing her eyes shut. It was so much different with Colton than anyone else, but she had never been good with the heavy stuff. That was part of her problem. “I know that.” She grumbled, trying to hold back the tidal wave she was constantly avoiding. “I’m trying not to think about it. If I start, I’ll end up going all the way back to my parents, and that entire mess and if I start to go back down that hole I don’t know that I’ll ever stop.” That pit would inevitably lead to Brianna killing her and the shit with Freddie she did everything to not think about. A brick wall she had only chipped pieces of away for Colton. “It’s not like it’s his fault, he didn’t know about me either, but that almost makes it worse. I spent three years around your brother and Rebeca, and yes they grew up with their twins, but how did I not know?”

“If that’s you’re worse than it seems like you now that you’re stuck with me now,” He tried to make a joke for her. Colton was always going to do what he could to make things easier for Lizzie, and if that meant at least trying to crack the smallest of smiles from her even at his own expense then he was never going to hold back with her. “I know that you love me though. Even at your absolute I know how absolute that fact is.” Maybe he shouldn’t be so sure of that even with her humanity off, but to him it simply felt just like another fact like the sky is blue. Colton reached up sinking his hand in her hair to securely keep her against his shoulder. “Because you were a literal fetus. No one can blame you for not knowing there was even the possibility. Focusing too hard on the past isn’t going to change what happened, or even bring you closure. Get to know him, and I’ll be here with open arms whenever you need to hide when it gets to be too much. Okay? We face this together.”

“She’s brilliant, which I’d love to take credit for but I’m pretty sure that’s all Kat.” For as smart as Kellan was, he had no doubt it was being raised by her mother that made their daughter as smart as she was. “Did you hear Ali had a kid? That’s really weird. He’s like a year and a half younger than Noah, but it freaks me out.” He admitted with a small laugh as he shook his head. “They’re amazing.” Kellan felt the smile that cracked across his face at the thought of his girlfriend. “I mean… ” He shook his head, letting out a laugh. “We’re in the house. And our kids, they’re amazing. It’s sixteen years later than I’d have wanted, but I’m happy it’s finally here.” Kellan admitted, a dopey, dazed look in his eyes. “How’re things with Liz? I can’t ask her, she’s banned me. Long story.”

“No matter what I’m sure there’s still a spark of you in her somewhere. You can take some ownership, Kellan. You deserve it. Besides their early years really are formative so I’m sure you rubbed off on her somehow,” that much he was certain of which he enjoyed. Any of his siblings being happy was all he cared about at the end of the day, and while he knew his brother loved Kat none of it would come close to how much he loved his daughter. “It might be sixteen years late, but I am happy you’re finally getting everything you deserved. You and Kat and the kids finally being a family.” Colton was all too aware that his smile gave him away though as he reached up to rub the back of his neck, “honestly? It doesn’t feel like anything has changed between us. Which I was terrified that she’d change her mind about me so at least that never happened.”

Kellan was well aware that if not for his son, the years he spent by himself would have been very different. He had never been truly alone before, not the way he’d have been without Noah; and that would have been sixteen years without even Mason, something that was only easier to deal with because things had gotten the way they had in the first place. Getting to have his family back and see the beautiful person his daughter had turned into was one of the strangest things in the world, somehow the best and worst feeling he ever felt. And that was without finding out Alison had a kid during the curse. It just made him relieved the others didn’t seem like they had new families, too. Kellan was a jealous person, he could admit that. Seeing someone getting to be with their child the entire time when he lost one was a sore subject. But Rebecka was thriving, and their family was finally in the house he had gotten all those years ago. “I don’t think my genetics went to use in making her at all.” Kellan admitted in amusement, a grin spreading easily and quickly across his face as he looked up to see his brother. Sure, he missed Alison, and part of him would miss Mason with every day that passed, but without a doubt Colton had been someone he missed the most. For a number of reasons. “I still make a double take between them sometimes.”

“Now I don’t know about that. I’m sure maybe some of your genes were used for her personality. Her looks though? Yeah absolutely no Mikaelson in that girl,” he teased laughing cheerfully. In all honesty she may have been Kat’s clone, but there was still no doubt that she was fully Kellan’s daughter. He was never going to not hate the entire universe for all that his siblings had lost out on, but knowing that his niece had grown up without the dad she had deserved was a different hatred that filled Colton. “How are things with Kat though?” He was sure that they had picked up right where they had left off but he still wanted to hear his brother gush over his girlfriend. He deserved to be able to talk about her now that they were able to make up for lost time with the people who mattered the most.

“I’d better be. If eternity wasn’t in the cards, we’d have a very different relationship.” She said jokingly. If it came down to it, Liz knew that she would rather have the friendship they had before they got together. Having any version of Colton in her life was better than the alternative, but she knew that she didn’t have to worry about that. There was something really safe in knowing that. “Nothing’s wrong.” Lizzy said quickly as she shook her head, squeezing his hand reassuringly. “It’s a family thing, but everything’s fine. I mean - I’m not necessarily, but I’m not hurt or anything.” She felt her shoulders slouch at the way it sounded. The more she tried to make it sound fine, the worse it did. Liz let out a sigh as she shook her head slightly. “We have another sister, and I…” She took a deep breath, shrugging a bit. “Have a twin, apparently. That’s all it was.” 

“As long as we’re crystal clear on the fact that nothing either of us do will change how the other sees us. No matter how dark things become,” it was an easy promise to make to always love Liz for him. Even the idea of losing her tore at his very soul so loving her even at her worst was all too easy to know he could do. Everything in him came to a still as he took in her words. Of all the things he was ready to hear come from her lips that hadn’t cracked the list. “That’s all, Liz? That’s a lot to take in for you.” He couldn’t even imagine how hard she was struggling with it. He pulled her tight against his side pressing his face in her hair as he sucked in a deep breath, “you know it’s okay to not be handling it well. You don’t have to hide it from me or how you’re feeling.”

Colton had been debating for weeks just how much time to give his sister, and most importantly his nephew, time to adjust to being in Mystic Falls after all this time. If it wasn’t for knowing about Henry he knew his resolve would have lasted all of six minutes, if that long, but he knew how hard it was to suddenly have a huge family and the last thing he wanted to do was to add another weight to the teenager’s shoulders. He knew though that he couldn’t wait forever before he found himself at his sister’s doorstep knocking on the door needing to see her for the first time in sixteen years.

It was the biggest regret of her life that Tatia hadn’t gotten to be their for her children. Being taken from Rhys was horrible enough but to find she had lost a lifetime with others so many centuries later had felt like a horrible joke. One that she was determined to make up for, and she hoped that she had started to in camp before it all disappeared. What she had never anticipated was Kol Mikaelson or falling in love with him, to say nothing of his kids. She would have considered them special regardless, but there was something magical in knowing they wanted her to be their mother, and she had done her best. The genetics involved didn’t matter much to her. No, so far as Tatia was concerned, they were all her kids. And with each new one that showed up now, she felt her heart grow a little fuller. “Are you implying we walk around naked?” She asked with a smile as she appeared at the top of the stairs, pausing for a moment and letting out a laugh as she started descending. “Don’t answer that. Your father absolutely would.” Tatia laughed a bit louder as she hurried her steps, enveloping her son in her arms quickly. “I am so very happy to see you, my love.”

Colton was willing to own up to the fact that he wasn’t exactly warm to the idea of Kol, but with his dad came his siblings and even a mother he hadn’t planned for. It was a blessing he hadn’t expected but was so grateful for when it came to Tatia. There was no hesitation as he engulfed her in his arms as he laughed happily, “you know better than I do that it wouldn’t be shocking to walk in and see him naked though.” He reminded her knowing that it wouldn’t be so weird with who Kol was as a person. Especially with Tatia around because they had lost out on so much time together. “God, I’m so happy to see you, mama,” Colton whispered crushing her just a little tighter as he pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “I’m grateful that I’m getting you to myself now though. Because I certainly am not sharing you today.”

“Then it’s lucky you don’t ever have to see her, isn’t it?” She flashed a cheeky grin up at her boyfriend as she let out a laugh. When it came to her temper, Colton was easily the only person Liz tried not to lose it in front of - well, besides the nieces and nephews in their families. Not because she thought even for a second that he would change his mind about her to see her that way, but she didn’t want him to have to see her when she was truly mental. One of the only good things to come from when she’d shut her humanity off was that Colton hadn’t seen it. “How selfless of you.” Lizzy teased as she shook her head. A moment later she let out a sigh. “There’s something I need to talk to you about anyway, and I’d rather not do it while I’m starving.” 

“Very lucky, but even if I did see that side of you it doesn’t change anything for me. You’re stuck with me for eternity,” It wasn’t for himself that he didn’t want to see that side of her, but because he wanted to be sure she never had to live with regret if things got too dark. Colton was determined to protect her the best that he could. Suddenly hearing her words though snapped him out of his own thoughts as he turned to look at her curiously as he raised his eyebrows, “Should I be worried about what this talk is about?” he asked curiously sucking in a deep breath.

Colton was all too aware that that he had too many siblings and even nieces and nephews that needed to make up for lost time with his parents. There was also the fact that he was spending time with Liz making up for the time they had lost with each other. She was spending the day driving Oliver crazy though so he decided to do the same with his mom. Tatia may not have been his mom through DNA, but she was his mom in all of the ways that mattered the absolute most. “ hope you two are decent,” he announced loudly covering his eyes dramatically as he walked through the front door.

Sixteen years had been torture for Colton, and that was without children. He couldn’t imagine how much worse it had been for his brother. It had taken a large amount of self control for him to not show up at his brother’s for awhile to give him time to proper time to spend with Kat and Rebecka the way he deserved. He needed the brother time though, and luckily he had ran into Rebecka on her way out to ease his guilt a bit. He walked into the living room leaning on the wall with an easy smile, “I’m pretty sure I just ran into a clone of your girlfriend walking outside.”

Sixteen years forced away from each other was its own specific form of torture, just one of the many she had tried to drown out of her mind all that time. She let out a small laugh as she pressed her lips to his for a moment. “I really am going to need to feed soon. Otherwise I’ll start to get evil and I try not to make a habit of doing that in public places where I might get staked.”

“As much as I love every side of you I have to admit evil Liz is fairly scary,” Colton teased her as he reached up to stroke a finger across her cheek bones as he grinned down at her, “so I think in my own best interest I need to get you fed. Besides if I want you to focus on me at al I can’t be competing with your hunger.” He would always be willing to throw out his own selfishness in order to cover the fact that he just wanted to care for her in every way that she would allow for him to. “Let’s ditch the human food and actually feed you.”
