I haven't been here long, but I've been drawing all my life and here a year end summary for this year! In fact, I always thought I was pretty good at drawing, but lately I've been thinking that I still need to grow and grow and on the one hand it's sad, but on the other I'm glad that I have the opportunity to realize that everything is still ahead of me. I want to thank everyone who has supported my art, your reblogs, comments and likes have made me incredibly happy and motivated me to work harder and I'm also grateful to have met some wonderful people here! I wish you all the best of the best! Merry Christmas!

Today we went to the store to pick up our tamales for Christmas Eve and the cashier said “Happy Halloween!” as we were leaving before shaking her head in surprise at what she just said and putting her head in her hands so yes I would say the grocery store employees looked a little stressed today

theres this gold you can only look at but never grab and it shows up on top of waves when the sun hits the water and you can try picking it up gathering it in your hands but it dies without water just disappears but if you look at it without trying to make it worth something to someone else well then. youll see after a while why its so priceless.

https://www.tumblr.com/olderthannetfic/770356561772216320/can-anyone-explain-why-so-many-progressives-are
Because a) most 'progressives' who are pro-piracy are specifically pro-'pirating from massive corporations because stealing from the Mouse is always morally right' and tend to be considerably less in favor of pirating from indie artists/studios who don't have Disney-level money filling their pockets and tanking the loss; and b) AI absolutely leads to lost revenue, because if some author, for instance, creates cover art for their novel using generative AI, not only have they used stolen work from artists who are not being paid to create the cover art, they have also deprived an artist of a paying job by not hiring anyone to create the art they generated off of stolen datasets.
Point b) is also why even if the genAI dataset is 'ethically trained' (trained only on public domain work, for example), using it to avoid having to pay an artist for their work still amounts to theft. Particularly because even if you don't have the money to pay a professional artist or commission the art you want, there are options! You can get a portfolio of stock photos and use some middling photoshop ability to get it to look passable as a cover. If you want artwork that looks exactly the way you want it to, then pay a fucking artist.
So even if you personally don't care about the damage AI technology does to the environment, it is still a massive problem insofar as artists, actors, and other creators losing out on jobs because it's so much cheaper to generate art than it is to pay an artist.
