the idea that the saja boys would cringe at huntrix crazy eating is so funny to me
like are you trying to convince me that these boys are not messy eaters too ? where did mystery 's dog tendency go ? and abby was straight up shooting the hot sauce instead of just drinking it and jinu grew up starving you trying to tell me he wouldn't be like kirby ? nah him and rumi would be vacuum cleaners and be happy how much the other is enjoying the food 🤣

Today I’m thinking about the significance of Peeta Mellark, the baker. Not because of his ability to make bread and feed the people around him, or the artistry of his decorations. But his ability to work with fire.
To be near it, touch it, manipulate it. To keep it roaring - not too hot, not too weak - to keep it lit and not be afraid of it.

ngl at first i thought they were purposely dressed as villains but then felt really bad when i learned that it's traditional Korean clothing and the hats were symbols of status in old times i felt really ashamed 😓
btw the part during romance 's solo where they do the hat move then dance while showing off their claws is criminally underrated .
This sequence right here, I love it. I feel like there's some Michael Jackson influence going on here.

Just look at these Thriller goofballs:

HOW KDH SHOULD HAVE ENDED
( Look I'm not going to play innocent . I'm fully biased here )
but also the more i think about the movie 's themes and message the more i feel like it makes more sense if it ended that way
All of the saja boys not just jinu turn against gwi-ma and fight back against him , he tries to stop them by using their patterns to stop them ( we see that he dragged the demon women to his alter through her patterns so it's safe to say he isn't just capable of tormenting psychologically through patterns but also physically ) but when they hear the girls starting to sing what it sounds like they fight through the pain and start singing along jinu sees he got his soul back and seeing that the rest of the boys start having hope and keep singing until they see that all five of them got their souls back too both bands are in shock and desbilef but rumi tearfully smile and continues singing and when hugging mira and zoey she turns to jinu and holds his hand as both bands look at each other not in anger or hatred but acceptance and all eight of them start fighting together and defeat gwi-ma and creating a new hoonmoon
the more i think of the movie 's themes of acceptance every part of yourself even the jagged edges the more this feels fitting , rumi's parents challenged the belief that demons are pure monsters and must be destroyed and isolated from the human world and them having rumi created a bridge that showed that both worlds could exit together and create something more beautiful and powerful but unfortunately they didn't get to see that become a reality and met a tragic end and their daughter was taught to view herself as a mistake and that her demon side was an ugly part that should be hidden until it's erased entirely and nobody should know about it
btw this is not a diss on celine she is a very complex character but it can't be denied that what she thought was her best ended up causing more harm then good and the damage it did to rumi ' s view of herself can't be denied either it's the hardest thing to admit about parents even when their actions come from a place of love it can unintentionally cause harm in one way or another and celine is a obvious example of that and its clear that rumi's demon half stopped her from fully loving her because she couldn't shake what she has been taught her whole even when their was a literal living proof that it was wrong she couldn't admit it was wrong and so she danced around it convincing herself that rumi is the exception and would be eventually " cured " of what made her " imperfect "
rumi's father already proved that demons are capable of choosing redemption and love and it was the first steps of proving that , five more demons following in his footsteps and helping create a new world that he could have happily lived in with his family without having to end in a tragedy that would have been poetic
also jinu doesn't disappear when he sacrifices himself rumi and the other saja boys try saving him and succeed when mira and zoey join them now seeing how fur demons are capable of change . also rumi and jinu obviously kiss when it's all over BEC WTH you give me the best written animated romance i have seen in a while that hits me in all my weak spots and they don't get to kiss and instead a tragedy that i have to cling to theories and aus to not get depressed over or actively ignore the tragedy all together? 😤😫😭 CMON
ik that this will require the movie to be longer so that all the saja boys and huntrix get their moments of doubt especially mira since she was the most focused on hating and defeating the saja boys, zoey from the beginning presented the idea that demons could be nice and got distracted of their hatred more than ones ( especially if mystery was involved 😏) rumi already starting having doubts by the time of her second meeting with jinu , mira was the most focused and actively called rumi out for questioning what they were taught but unlike celine she is self aware enough to change their also would be needed to give the saja boys screentime and show how each of them deal with being enslaved and tormented by gwi-ma because i personally headcanon that all of them dealt with it differently as well as moments where they experience genuine kindness that allows them to rediscover their humanity like jinu when the little girl gave him the drawing so it will stretch out the runtime when they already had to cut it out but DO I LOOK LIKE I CARE? uhm .......debatable
btw wouldn't be cool if the saja boys embroidery on their clothes turned rainbow or white and blue as a way to show the new hoonmoon accepting them it would look gorgeous against the black of their clothes and if their patterns started glowing blue like rumi's did
this and this did that idea i wish i can make a fanfic about this but my writing and story structure suddenly gave up on me and refuses to come back so if there are anymore ideas of that concept absolutely send the links in the reblogging

inspiration from this meme because i thought it fit their dynamics to a tea

i finally finished coming up with headcanons for the saja boys backstory and i ended up liking the idea of each of them coming from a different time period so this is my headcanons for them, i don't have all details figured out but i headcanon that the rest of the boys got their memories erased so they don't remember all the details or their real names
TW for mentions of death and blood , substance abuse and self harm/ hatred , crime and abuse so much angst
p.s im not a big expert at korean history or systems
Romance : is from 200 years ago so the second oldest next to jinu but also the oldest when he died at 27, was from a wealthy family and was often ignored in favor of his older brothers there was constant pressure for perfection and extremely high expectations that he didn't seem to reach so he made himself as small as he could to not draw attention to himself and be mocked for not fitting his family reputation , his brothers also found him to be " too soft and weak " especially when he was spoiling their little half sisters and sharing their interests while not being as good them in reinforcing the family image , his father arranged for him to get married to a daughter of a fellow Nobel man and it was seen as the best way for him to be " useful to the family " , at first he was happy and even excited to get engaged and was hoping that he and his betrothed would find happinesses and understanding with each other so he tried to get her to like him but she was reserved and he got anxious and decided to try and surprise her but found out that she had a secret lover wich crushed him , he didn't know how to deal with this and was worried his brothers and fathers would mock him or see him as even more of failure because every time he went to them for help they were never useful and just made him feel worse about himself so he stayed quite , that night his family was attacked and their house burned by arson he barely survived but was severely injured and dying wich is when he made a deal with gwi-ma he already was hearing him for a while but thought it was his imagination and didn't want to take the risk of telling anyone about it but now that he was dying and lost everything he gave in and agreed to becoming a demon to save his life ( think like marc agreeing to becoming moon knight when konshu offered him but for worse reasons ) and as soon as he was turned he went after the people responsible for the arson and murder of his family but was very consumed by pent up rage he kept killing other people until it reached that he killed his fiance and her lover wich is when he snapped out and realized what he did and was consumed by guilt
Abby ; died during the 1940s at 24 years old , was the eldest son in a family of fishermen / sellers was beloved by his community and family and had a passion for drawing however he and his brother were drafted for war , of course it was mentally and physically shattering to say the least and watching his comrades die and get injured made him paranoid he and his brother won't be able to return to their family or protect each other so he made a deal with gwi-ma to be stronger and a better soldier unfortunately his brother died during an attack he desperately tried to save him and couldn't accept that he died which resulted in him getting shot as well he expected to die but woke up as a demon he is always hunted by all the kills he did and witnessed during the war and feels like he failed everyone
Mystery : died during the 70s at 22 years old he was orphaned at 12 years old and sent to live in an orphanage he was very quiet which caused him to struggle with making friends and was seen as " weird " by others due to preferring to quietly observe animals mimicking them especially dogs and canines he even would take some of his food to give it to stray animals he didn't get adopted and had to live independently , he kept struggling to get by and had to resort to stealing to survive until he ran into a gang that he was forced to join and help in their illegal activities but they were verbally and physically abusive towards him due to seeings him as a doormat , he made a deal with gwi-ma to get revenge on his gang but it resulted in all of them including him to get arrested and going to the same prison as them wich made things worse he couldn't take it anymore and took his own life but too woke up as a demon
btw he didn't get his memory erased but during his first days as a demon he tried to run away from gwi-ma ' s grasp after failing to kill one of the hunters of that time and when brought back got on gwi-ma's nerves which resulted in him getting tortured then put in an area in the demon realm that is an endless maze and experiencing this alone during his first days as a demon horribly affected his sanity and caused a white room affect that caused him to forget things including his names
btw gwi-ma completely forgot about him and so he stayed trapped for decades and didn't get out until jinu accidentally stumbled onto him from hearing him humming and knew how to get him out which is why mystery is the least adaptable as a human and has animal tendency but is also very obedient and the maze punishment was inspired by these concept arts :

Baby: died during the 90s at 19 years old but was weeks away from turning 20 , he was the youngest in the family and also often ignored his father owned a pharmacy and his mother a nurse at a nursing home for elders they tried forcing him to get into a medical profession but he was grossed out by it and had sensory issues for the aspects of medical studies but his parents didn't like that and were incredibly against his interest in music it turned to accusations of being selfish and not wanting to be helpful at some point he had to take a medication due to a injury but he ended up getting addicted to it because of how it dulled his senses and it helped with him not getting into fights as usual as it did and it reached the point of him stealing from his fathers pharmacy or money his mother when his family found out about his addiction and stealing it resulted in an explosive argument that ended with him getting kicked out and disowned at 16 he kept going from odd job to another including working at a bar which is where he experienced alcohol abuse he tried starting a music career but kept failing time after time until he made a deal with gwi-ma so that a band accept him however he was still struggling with addiction and self harm and tried hiding and dealing with it by himself without his band mates knowing but eventually their manager found out about his secret stash and forced him to leave he begged him and his band mates to not leave him because he had nothing outside of the band and promised that hed try to get better and stay sober but the manager said that he wouldn't spend money on his recovery or risk the scandal of one of the members being unstable and his band mates didn't defend or back him up instead silently watching he was betrayed and angry he overdosed though he doesn't know if he did that accidentally or on purpose

on the note that jinu getting his memories erased wouldn't work i fully agree
i headcanon that the other saja boys already got their memories erased but the kicker is that it was partly they still remember the reasons they became demons and the things they are ashamed of gwi-ma just made them forget their real names and better memories when they were alive leaving them with only their worst memories , no knowledge of their names and even forgetting the names of the people in their human lives
gwi-ma controls demons by shame and psychological torment so if they fully lost their memories he might lose control over them or it might lessen ( i also saw a fanfic that implied that gwi-ma might have replaced shaming jinu about his family to shaming him for wanting his memory erased so it would have been trading another prison to another ) so he needs to remind them of their shame so that they don't escape his grasp
On Jinu, Rumi, and Self-Acceptance in K-Pop Demon Hunters
The Jinu we meet in K-Pop Demon Hunters is a “broken soul trapped in the nastiest shell"; A man beaten down from centuries of psychological torture. According to Gwi-ma, he’s so selfish that he has never done anything in 400 years that didn’t serve himself. That’s the kicker though…that’s what Gwi-ma tells us. In this story, demons represent our own self-doubts, the things we believe about ourselves, also known as Cognitive Distortions. Our entire view of Jinu is as distorted as his view of himself. Objectively, it is desperation, not selfishness, that drives Jinu’s choice to make a deal with the demon king. A truly selfish person would not feel such crushing guilt for leaving behind his family. Seriously is this the face of a person who knew he'd have to leave his family?
Anyone who has read folklore knows that making deals often comes with unintended consequences. If you ask a faerie for help, they might make you dance until you die. Ask Rumpelstiltskin to help you spin straw into gold and sign away your first-born child. The devil is tricky. Deals come with loopholes and he always comes to collect. The demon king found a desperate and vulnerable young man and tricked him into trading his soul.
The tragedy of his character is that he can’t see himself objectively. He’s a cautionary tale of what happens when we hide our faults and fears. Jinu’s beliefs about himself become a self-fulfilling prophecy. He’s so detached, so desperate to escape Gwi-ma’s relentless torment, that he’s willing to make another deal, and this time the cost is all of humanity (Side note, I highly doubt this deal would have worked out in his favor in the end even if his plan had succeeded, but unfortunately, he’s also tragically STUPID). The irony is that he is in desperate need of saving, but he doesn’t realize it. Until he meets Rumi.
All we get to do is live with our pain, our misery. That's all we deserve.
Cognitive distortions are tricky; they feel like reality to a person suffering. To beat them, you have to be able to challenge them, and that can be difficult unless someone else points them out to you. That’s what Rumi and Jinu do for each other. Jinu challenges Rumi’s view of herself as a mistake, and Rumi challenges Jinu’s belief that the sum of his worth is only his mistakes. They give each other hope that they can fight back against their respective demons. Unfortunately, Jinu has a literal demon king to contend with beating him into submission, so things go off the rails fairly quickly and he self-destructs.
Jinu’s betrayal was an important, and inevitable, part of Rumi’s journey to self-acceptance. Had her plan succeeded, she would have hid a part of herself away forever. She wasn’t facing it; she was running from it. In hitting rock bottom, she was forced confront her fears, and emerged stronger. She became a beacon for others, including Jinu, giving them the courage to fight. Jinu is not redeemed, he is freed. Rumi now has the capacity to do more than vanquish demons, she can also free other broken souls trapped in Gwi-ma’s domain.
Now, does that completely absolve Jinu of responsibility for his choices? Absolutely not. Regardless of his circumstances, it was his plan that nearly ended the world (Errr South Korea? Eh who knows) and thus it was his responsibility to set things right. No one made him volunteer. He may have had a change of heart halfway through, but by then it was too late because Gwi-ma already knew everything. The moment he hesitated in telling Rumi the truth about his past, and hid his shame again, he gave Gwi-ma the keys to his destruction. Being able to dissect and understand a character’s motivations is not the same of condoning their actions. Jinu made mistakes and he paid for them with his life. With that being said I do not believe Jinu is evil or that he is deserving of continued misery, nor do I think we’ve seen the last of him. In fact, I’d say his journey has just begun, but that discussion is for another post. For now, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes:
To forgive is an act of compassion. It’s not done because people deserve it, it’s done because they need it.
Until next time friends!

Two Braids, Two Mothers, Two Traumas - Tangled vs. KPDH
There’s something quietly powerful about scenes where a mother figure braids a girl's hair. It’s intimate. Symbolic. And sometimes deeply unsettling.
Both Tangled and K-Pop Demon Hunter have versions of this moment, but what they reveal about care, control, and trauma couldn’t be more different.

In Tangled, the hair-braiding scene is part of a power move. Mother Gothel showers Rapunzel with “affection,” only to undercut her at every turn. She’s the textbook narcissistic parent: she isolates Rapunzel, feeds her fear of the outside world, makes herself the only safe haven. And she does it all under the illusion of love. But it’s not love. It’s control. It’s ego. Gothel isn’t raising Rapunzel for Rapunzel’s sake—she’s hoarding her like a resource. Her youth. Her power. Her usefulness.

The hair isn’t just a symbol of femininity or connection here. It’s also Gothel’s main tool of exploitation. The braid becomes a twisted tether. Something that looks tender but is rooted in manipulation.
Now look at K-Pop Demon Hunter. Celine braiding Rumi’s hair hits a lot of the same visual notes but the emotional context is very different.

Celine isn’t Rumi’s birth mother. She raised Rumi after the death of her best friend. And while she clearly loves Rumi, it’s not a simple love. It’s tangled up (no pun intended) with grief, loyalty, fear, and internalized beliefs she never fully unpacked. She was raised to believe demons are evil—full stop. But her best friend loved one. And that daughter, Rumi, carries a demon inside her.
Celine didn’t cut ties with Rumi. She stayed. She tried. But her way of surviving the dissonance was to dissociate. To emotionally separate the part of Rumi she couldn’t understand or accept. That’s not healthy, but it’s not malicious either. It’s trauma. It’s fear masked as protection.
Where Gothel manipulates Rapunzel to feed her ego, Celine ends up passing down her own pain to Rumi—not out of cruelty, but because she never learned how not to. It's intergenerational trauma, not narcissism. And that makes the hair-braiding scene so charged.

It’s also striking where the two confrontations take place. Rapunzel faces Gothel in the tower : a space literally built to preserve Gothel’s ego, a prison crafted for control. Rumi, on the other hand, confronts Celine under a tree—which often stand for family, lineage, and memory. If towers isolate, trees connect. It feels fitting. Their pain was passed down, but so was the chance to stop it.

In both stories, the braid symbolizes a maternal bond. A transmission of femininity. But in Tangled, that bond is laced with lies and exploitation—you have to break it to heal. In KPDH, it’s more complicated. The trauma is real, but so is the love. The bond hurts, but it’s also a site of care. Something inherited, tangled, and tender. Something you don’t escape but slowly unravel. You learn to name it, break the pattern, and heal.
You escape from Gothel. You break the cycle with Celine.
