Honestly guys I still love Catra, I really do. But also, people trying to justify her actions this season should maybe... not.

Catra is self-destructive.

So are a lot of people, and hopefully some can overcome their harmful tendencies but they don’t do it by pretending they aren’t fucked up. You gotta realize it and make the conscious effort to fight those habits.

It’s not gonna be easy, it’s not gonna be pretty, but Noelle Stevenson wrote Catra’s character like this for a reason. The road is gonna be long, and heart breaking, with lots and lots of slip ups, but maybe, we’ll get to witness Catra defeat this harmful defense mechanism she’s created for herself as a result of years of abuse and neglect.

We’re not gonna see this happen though until she does as Adora says and realizes that she can’t keep blaming everyone else for the decisions that she has made. She’s gotta own up for her own actions, not blame Adora, not blame Shadow Weaver.

Catra baby, I still got hope for you that you can fight this, but you have to fight it yourself, you can’t count on Adora or Scorpia to hand your redemption to you cause it just doesn’t work like that.

I absolutely adored the direction that Noelle + the writing team has taken Catra in this season, because guys, sometimes this is what abuse/trauma victims look like.

Catra is bitter, violent, and hateful on an extreme level. For three seasons now, we’ve been watching her spiral, self-sabotaging all her chances at happiness and hurting all those who try to come close. But in this season, she’s come completely unhinged. She went on a suicidal quest to slaughter an entire planet in an attempt at vindication, and now, the fandom seems conflicted about whether she can ever come back.

This is such an important message. Victims of trauma aren’t always doe-eyed, wounded angels who just need a hug and some comfort. Often, they have claws. And often, they will use them. Like Catra, sometimes they cross a line. Sometimes they reject love and sympathy and help. Sometimes, their actions seem entirely irrational and selfish.

It’s important to show that there comes a time when, like Adora, you may have to distance yourself from toxic people in your life, even if you know their actions stem from trauma. There can be a legitimate reason for toxic actions without them being necessarily justified, and while Catra’s choices are understandable, they are not at all okay.

I love Catra; she’s probably one of my favorite characters of all time. I think she absolutely can be redeemed, and I truly hope she does find a way to heal without becoming a martyr. But she truly did become a villain this season, and while much of her pain is the fault of Shadow Weaver and Hordak, she needs to learn to accept responsibility for her own self-sabotage and her ‘evil’ actions before she can ever begin to recover.

whoever made that comparison where catra and adora are basically like sasuke and naruto, I just want you to know my life hasn’t known peace since I’ve read that. 

dumb of ass blonde hair blue eyed main character, has god-like powers, very driven to help their best friend out of the dark path they’ve set into because they love them so much, has a heart of gold? check

main character also has a sidekick that has an exposed midriff and is super charming? check

said best friend has hurt them countless times to push them away but to also to see how far they would go for them, had their physical form deformed/altered due to their self destructive tendencies, and tried to kill everyone? check

the bestfriend also hurting one of their closest companions who is only trying to help them from their dark path and always sticking by their side, no matter how many times they treat them like crap? check

main character and their best friend have grown up together, parent-less, and have looked out for each other? check

tldr: i’m living in a reincarnated naruto timeline where naruto is a goddess and sasuke is a furry
