The Best Of Engineered Garments From New York
Discover the gradual changes and the men’s wear design foundations of Engineered Garments. It features NYC styling mixed with Japanese attitudes. Typically, fashion designers come up with completely styles and trends for each new season. They may adhere to a certain fashion principle, but for the most part these brands jump from one look to another as time passes.
That’s not how it works with Engineered Garments. The brand was launched in the late 1990s by Daiki Suzuki, and it was established in the heart of the Garment District in New York City. It’s that fusion of NYC setting and Japanese spirit that continues to define the EG label today. It offers workwear and gritty street wear, with that profound calm of Japanese design. EG doesn’t just start and stop with clothes.
They offer accessories as well, including footwear and timepieces. They even have a line of women’s wear. But their men’s wear always stand front and center in representing what the EG brand is all about. As the name states clearly, these clothes aren’t really designed as they are engineered. They’re made to exacting standards, and the look doesn’t come out of nowhere on a whim. Engineered Garments tweak their offerings from season to season, providing a sense of continuity for their clothing line. It changes each season, but a lot of the inherent EG look remains each year.
It’s basically a work in progress that never ends. Ever since EG was launched, it has gained a cult following among fashion-forward customers and industry insiders. Suzuki is unapologetic experimental in his approach. He was worked as creative director for Woolrich Mill based in Pennsylvania, and this gave him a love for using heavy duty fabrics that work well for workwear and streetwear. These include double-face sateen, worsted melton, and twill serge. But he loves to find new uses for these fabrics, instead of safely sticking with their intended purpose. The fame of the label has grown a lot, especially with the Engineered Garments online shop. Here you can find all the stunningly created clothes and accessories, with occasional Engineered Garments sale discounts every now and then.
Looking at all these clothes offer a clearer idea of the EG design, or rather engineering, aesthetic. There’s a preponderance of neutral colors that goes well with any other Here are examples of EG engineering that you can get from the shop: The Bedford Jacket Tailored clothing was a huge trend in men’s wear about 10 years ago. But trends come and go all the time, and so lots of fashion-conscious men switched to a more casual look, with stylish sneakers and streetwear. But there never really was a necessity to merely stick with one look or another. Men can go with casual streetwear one day and then opt for tailored clothing the next. The looks can even be mixed, with unconstructed tailoring going with stylish streetwear. That’s the kind of attitude that EG exemplifies.
The label has always been superb in offering adult clothing that comes with a certain laid-back attitude. That’s very evident in the various Engineered Garments jacket models, especially in the Bedford Jacket. This is a mishmash of several styles, and yet somehow they all come together quite well. It’s seems like a combo of a blazer and a hunting jacket, and it also seems like a transitional bit of clothing. It’s a rather good example of how many guys these days put on a blazer if they need to dress up for an occasion.
The Bedford Jacket is ideal for today’s ongoing transition from workplace formality to something a bit more relaxed. Even traditionally fashion-conservative institutions, such as law firms and banks, are tilting away from overly formal suits towards a more relaxed business casual vibe. This jacket, and the EG label as a whole, provides an ideal balanced look, with tailored clothing and a more casual spirit, to avoid the extremes of overly prissy formal suits and the rather unsophisticated and unserious look of everyday casual wear. Fall/Winter 2017 The Engineered Garments FW17 lineup continues to evolve the EG look gradually and progressively. It’s quite a rather well-considered collection that highlights the intriguing imagination of Suzuki. It’s still based on the iconic men’s wear foundation of suits and coats, but it seems to offer a relaxed respite from the turbulence all over the world.
The collection offers a consistent workwear spirit, though it vibrates with a rather unmistakable hint of earnest persistence. Here you can find olive overalls with heavy duffle coats, along with parkas, ponchos, and long aprons. Some blankets are even worn over the coats. Corduroy mixes with crumpled denim, and you can find drifter hats too. It’s not that it withdraws completely from current politics and events. One rather dramatic example is a blanket that recreates the Stars and Stripes. But here it is in portentous gray scale, which clearly signals the label’s disapproval for today’s politics.
Another startling piece is a pinstriped jumpsuit. It looks strikingly current, yet the look was actually taken from a vintage photo of the legendary Winston Churchill. In the photo, the statesman was wearing virtually the same look. It’s a clear homage to the timelessness of certain men’s fashion trends, and at the same time it emphasizes the fight against tyranny and oppression. Engineered Garments SS18 Fall and winter fashion is the time for subtlety and subdued hues. But in the spring and winter, the coming of the bright sun calls for startling colors and that’s what EG offers in its 18th spring and summer collection.
Long-time EG cultists may be astonished at the preponderance of colors for this collection. This is understandable; the label has always been a proponent of neutral monochrome color schemes, with gradual changes year in and year out. Yet this time it’s a vast understatement to say that the color scheme changed. Now there’s deep crimson and tropical green, to go with royal blue and gold. Just in case you missed the radical transformation, there’s even a print featuring a pink flamingo. Suzuki came up with this collection as a result of his current obsession with a rather obscure Jamaican movie called Rockers.
The plot revolves around a set of intrepid reggae musicians, who somehow strike back against their gangster enemies. This is the film that led to reggae-inspired prints that have been sourced from Africa. Other changes include a switch to thinner and lighter fabrics, with a decided highlighting of synthetic materials like Cordura. A key piece of the collection is a coated cotton jacket that’s extremely lightweight, and it features a wrinkle-resistant “memory plastic” fabric. It even includes a shoe line, with collaborations with other brands such as Timberland and Dr. Martens.
These join other accessories like knit ties, bucket hats, and even a version of the iconic Frakta bag from Ikea. The Engineered Garments shop online offers a complete set of all their most iconic suits and jackets, along with the pieces in the most recent collections. This is men’s wear that works—not too formal, but not too casual. With the mix of Japanese serenity with NYC street sensibilities, you have clothes that are fashionable for any type of season and for any year.

Remi Relief Combining The Styles of California and Japan
Remi Relief is a Japanese company heavily influenced by the style of California Cali.
High quality fabrics are often paired with timeless vintage-inspired designs and plenty of color. Founded by Mr. Yutaka Goto, he was fascinated by the ultimate american basic - utilizing every aspect of the garment down to the thread and hardware used.
The name, interestingly enough, comes from the idea of REMIXing an assortment of clothing while also getting rid of the old. No frills, just the best. Their concept of a high quality of life very clearly translates into their clothing.
It’s okay to create a garment that allows the fabric and craftsmanship speak for itself, without the need of a big logo or grabbing element. The subtleties are what a true clothing lover will ultimately fall in love with.
From this spring, there are plenty of bright colors both in jackets and shirting. Their fit is on point very clearly Japanese.
It’s worth noting that the California style is also heavily inspired by skateboarding culture, by proxy.
They are a perfect representation of skateboarding culture being translated into high quality clothing that fits both the japanese aesthetic and the west coast lifestyle.

Engineered Garments, Suzuki and The Leading Edge Of Menswear
What I really love about EG is the fit. Daiki Suzuki, who used to design for Woolrich Woolen Mills, started Engineered Garments. It’s one of the last few brands still sewn in the garment district in New York City NYC. This season is cool considering all of the different floral patterns and interesting fabrics. There is a baby blue corduroy jacket for sale this season that is absolutely killer. It kind of fits like a type two II but with a looser fit. The Andover pant comes in strong this season in a high count twill khaki. I’ve been eyeing this short sleeve popover in yellow with a weird pattern on it. The seersucker shorts are actually pretty cool considering I rarely wear shorts.

Hey Style Guys, Head's Up for LVC- Levi's Vintage Clothing
SLVC Levi’s Levis Vintage Clothing is a very detail oriented brand that reproduces old Levis clothing from the archive to a t.
Most recently, they’ve remade the Einstein leather cossack Menlo jacket. During Einstein’s process of becoming a US USA United States citizen, he purchased said leather jacket. He was a simple man in the way he dressed, and he wasn’t interested in having many garments to solve the purpose of being clothed, so he decided on this jacket to fill that void.
In 2016, Levi Strauss and Co. won the bid at the auction in London. It was nearly 60 years after his death that the jacket was purchased for the archive, but it had still smelled strongly of pipe smoke as he was an incessant pipe-smoker.
This scent as replicated as well as the paddle used to place the winning bid at the auction.
The scent was created by ds Durga D.s. & Durga to accompany this Menlo cossack jacket.
The collar is small and can be worn up or down. Aside from this jacket, the collection is highlighting life in the 1940s containing many surf-related articles.
It has a lot of west coast inspiration and is intended to pay homage to the surf riders of the forties 40s. A lot of the pieces contain different pastels and designs on both sweaters and short sleeve button ups.
They work both very well as a unit and with other brands. In classic Levi Strauss style, the fits are of a wide variety and allow the wearer to completely be their own person.
Despite there being little to no beaches in Colorado, the feel of this collection still resonates with the outdoors and colors found in Colorado.
