Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Thoughts So Far
Figured I wanted to talk a little about my thoughts on Xenoblade Chronicles 3 so far :D [SOME SPOILERS!! ALSO VERY WORDY AND TOO LONG] I've got ~100 hours in it so far (thought 20 of those are from me falling asleep and leaving the game on lol) and I'm at chapter 5 at the Erythia Sea when you get the big boat to sail around in.
Overall I'm really enjoying the game! It's always nice to find a game that actually grips me, usually I find something, love it for a bit and then life kind of takes over and I lose focus on it but XC3 has kept me hooked since i started playing it so that must only mean well! I enjoy sitting down and playing the game as it never feels like that much of a chore despite how many mundane sidequests there are. Despite the odd time where I just wanna get a move on with the main story (I still just do the sidequest anyways, idk I'm ocd about it I guess) I usually only have good times with the game!
Performance-wise, it IS a Nintendo Switch game and it shows lol. Just going by eye it feels like it targets 30fps but can sometimes go over it? Not sure if there's a cap but I feel like I've seen it be smoother than 30 at least. The game does, however, crash. A lot. I've had this game crash more than any other Switch game combined. It's a shame because it has messed with me a few times such as crashing after a boss battle and then me having to refight said boss but honestly that's the most grievous occurance. The game has an incredibly lenient auto-save feature which I almost wonder if it was incorporated to combat the crashing lol. Generally the game auto-saves after every area transition and seemingly at set time intervals. I can't complain because it has definitely saved my progress and interest in the game despite the crashing. The game sometimes lags in the higher-populated Colonies. Like I noticed this first with Colony 4 but usually in the open world the game is pretty smooth! I'm always impressed with how Monolith Soft manages to make these games even play at such a large scale.
Characters are awesome! I really really like the main cast of 6. At first I was a little worried that frontloading EVERY party member right at the start of the game would lead to a lack of interest or attachment but overall each character really does get a chance to shine. I've grown especially fond of Taion, Lanz and Mio. Noah is a given because he's the MC and I always have a soft spot for MCs. Eunie and Sena are great too. Honestly they're all really enjoyable so disregard how I even attempted to rank them there lmao. Part of me was worried that there would be less individuality as each character is part of the mission for practically the same reasons but the underlying themes really do push themselves forward when a specific character gets a spotlight. There are also mid game quests dedicated to characters that allow you to rank up their class rank beyond level 10 which are usually tied to a little bit of development for them too. I've not played Xenoblade Chronicles 2, only 1 so that's the game where I have been making the most comparisons to.
Compared to the first game - I'm unsure if I can say I like 3 more. I've not finished yet so I'm trying to hold off on comparing them too much but it can't be helped sometimes. My main gripe between the two games would probably be the story. The first game had a gradual incline which included characters being introduced later, a more pressing story to me and such. The third game feels a little smaller in its scale - the destination is set from the beginning - Swordmarch - and the whole first half just feels like a bit of a road trip with a core destination in mind. This is nearly identical to the first game but I somehow felt that it was a bit more intruiing in the first? I think it might jyst be that the idea of the Colonies and how the soldiers themselves live is a little less interesting to me than the more mundane towns and regular people of the first. When everything feels so military it can get a bit stale for me. But part of me wonders if that was the point, to drive in this endless feeling of fighting and warfare just to have it totally dashed by the City in Swordmarch: a totally normal town! It feels straight out of the first game with so many talkable NPCs, quests and just a more homey feel to it.
As soon as I actually got to the City and the game started introducing its own twists such as babies and regular human beings I got a whole lot more invested. It was a good motivation boost that's for sure.! This has all just been a huge ramble post but I just wanted to write down how I felt so far, would be cool to look back on this when I'm finished or on a repeat playthrough! :D
Sorry if anybody read this far, really just a word wall lol.

AAAAAAAAAAA Finally decided to use this Tumblr I had for ages :) Idk why I’m kind of just sick of twitter so like I wanna do something else also you can just talk and talk and talk here so I guess that’s kind of nice. I have no connections here at all and I don’t know anybody who even uses Tumblr but like I guess I always wanted a blog-like-thing so that’s kinda cool and hype yep.
Hope I can actually commit to this somewhat and use it and meet people and stuff :)
