Do you have any fanfics where L is sick?
There’s Illness (this looks very good), Fever Dreams by OfficiallyRhiannon, L’s Sick Week, Stomach Flu, and Remedy of the Heart. They’re mostly LxLight (except for Illness) and they’re very fluffy.
Edit: Read In which L is a giant baby and Light is annoyed! Absolutely cute!

You don't have to answer this, but now that you're talking so much about L... have you any idea/opinion on why L sits in a kind of padded cell when he is firstly introduced? Each time I rewatch/reread Death Note that just seems so weird and kind of sketchy to me... I guess it might be an aesthetic choice, but I've often wondered about an in-universe explanation. Does L just like to hang out in barren rooms? Is it a kind of base? Or was he maybe put there? Idk, just something I think about alot.
Hi Anon, thanks for the question! In my opinion, L is seen hanging out in vague empty rooms before his reveal simply because:
(1) it gives his character a lot more mystery when you can’t place his surroundings, and they wanted L to be a mysterious guy to intrigue the audience
(2) Ohba and Obata had a very vague concept of L as a character when they first introduced him, and ended up changing a lot of things about his design and mannerisms after the full character reveal. This is basically the “Ryuzaki persona / First!L” debate you might see around the fandom sometimes, because there is a big difference between how L looks and acts in the beginning of the story versus how he looks and acts once he meets up personally with the task force. In the beginning, he has perfect posture, sits on the floor in a meditative pose in a nondescript room, has wavy hair, and nicely cut clothes:
Some people consider this evidence that L was putting on a “Ryuzaki” persona with all his eccentricities throughout the rest of the story as a means of manipulating people or further obscuring his identity; but Ohba and Obata confirmed in Volume 13 that this wasn’t their intention, and they simply changed his design as they went, as well as revealed his quirks over time so that we’d take him more seriously at first.
QUOTES FROM WRITER OHBA IN VOL. 13:
When asked “What kind of person do you think L is?”: “I introduced him as a force of justice who stands in the way of Light’s criminal activity and who keeps the story going. In order to go up against Light and the Death Note, you need a “super detective.” Since it wouldn’t have been as interesting if he were too much older than Light, I made him a young man. I didn’t think up anything for his past. For him to have been in such an influential position, he must have solved an amazing amount of cases, but I have no idea what kind of cases they were or how he solved them.”
When asked “Did you ever request something from Obata-sensei in terms of character design?”: “For L, I left everything up to Obata-sensei, but he did ask me if it was okay if L wasn’t attractive. After this, I added new ideas to the thumbnails, like the way L sits and whatnot… But a lot of it also came from Obata-sensei; how L holds his cell phone, for example.”
QUOTES FROM ILLUSTRATOR OBATA IN VOL. 13:
On L’s Design: “The truth is that until he appeared in chapter 11, I was drawing him as if he were an attractive young man. But once it was time to show him, I figured it might be better if his appearance contrasted with Light’s. My idea just happened to match Ohba-sensei’s, so I switched the concept to a more odd-looking character.“
On L’s Peculiar Tastes and Mannerisms: “…I think it works best when things are revealed gradually. Had L been eating mountains of sweets before his face was revealed I think people would’ve been wondering if he was crazy, and he wouldn’t have much credibility as a super detective [laughs].”
So basically anon, I see L’s weird empty room as an extension of that. Ohba and Obata didn’t know much about L as a character yet, and they didn’t want us to know much about L as a character yet, either. The manga was very vague with it, and therefore the anime was as well.
The padded cell vibe is an interesting idea to explore though, and so is the idea that L was putting on a persona the whole time! I personally do not headcanon L as putting on an act because I’m very particular about L and I love the froggy guy we get to know so much; I don’t think L would need to make up odd mannerisms to be manipulative or to protect his identity, because he was plenty manipulative and mysterious enough already without that. But I also see why other people enjoy the concept of first!L and the Ryuzaki persona; and if fans want to headcanon it that way or make up interesting theories or stories about why L’s looks and surroundings were so different in the beginning, then all the more power to them!

When one of your biggest fantasy belly tropes actually becomes real!
So watching "The Genius' Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt", there finally was the setup I've long thought about and I THOUGHT was going to flirt with but indeed went with and it was amazing. I may already plot to make it worse.
This is Prince Wein Salema Arbalest, a smarmy genius prince that wants to even sell his kingdom to retire (and then promptly forgotten after the first episode.) He keeps making alliances, having battles, and more; all sorta by accident, he just handles them well and improves his nation's standing.
In Episode 11, he's visiting a kingdom whose ruler previously helped him with some refugees when he was visiting a city state in a neighboring Empire, and seeking to forge a trade agreement with them.
Well the King is enormous and even likes to moved around in a palanquin and likes to have feasts. A normal occurrence for royalty such as Prince Wein. He goes along with it and promises not to get distracted by the food and focus on forging that alliance. Despite the fight with his inner self, it doesn't go well.
And now screenshots!
He quickly shifts his focus to learning all he can about their culinary traditions so he can bring them back to his country, but then still his inner voice is telling him not to be distracted by the food.
APPARENTLY I will have to make a reblog of this because there is a limit to images in posts now? Dumb. I'll take the next one instead.

Goro Akechi knows he will regret this for the rest of his life—just not like this.
TW: interrogation room, a/b/o, dubious consent, dead dove
(Reading direction right to left)
Regarding ABO: Who is alpha who is omega? Take your pick😆 might change the flavor a little bit but doesn’t really matter and doesn’t really change the fact that this is problematic and how Akech is doomed lol

Since it won't let me reblog like I planned with the original post, I'm adding it on here.
But here is a clip right before that shows Ron sitting down with his own spread of food covered in brown sugar syrup, in what's supposed to be a "standing buffet". Instead he's decided to sit down and gorge.

a ramble re: guns and death note
something that's really fascinating to me, and something that i think reflects the creators' lack of knowledge/research rather than intentional characterization, is like. okay, so, Soichiro's whole Thing is that he believes that the power to kill is inherently evil and corrupting. But he also uses a gun at several points in canon. He points a gun at the TV people, he points a gun at his own son, he uses a gun in the raid. And like. That's part of why, even in a death note AU where blanks actually work like they do IRL and light gets his fuckin eye blown out, I think Soichiro would go along with L's plan without considering that it might result in serious injury. Because someone who is willing to point a gun at other people in a combat situation yet simultaneously believes the power to kill is evil and that they could never kill someone is someone with a fundamentally unbalanced view of the world. I don't think this dichotomy is intentional, but I think it reflects Light's own self-delusion in a really interesting way. Soichiro believes very strongly that killing is wrong, and yet he repeatedly puts himself in a position where he could easily end someone's life and is...pretty careless about it, tbh. Like, PSA: if you never want to kill someone, NEVER POINT A GUN AT ANOTHER PERSON.
It's an interesting dichotomy between Soichiro and Matsuda as well, I think. Like, Soichiro seems to be operating under the assumption that his intention with a firearm is going to be reflected in the results. In canon, this is never challenged, but it should go without saying that this is NOT a good way to think about guns. Meanwhile Matsuda knows exactly what he's doing and the risks he's dealing with — he knew damn well shooting Light could kill him, that was his whole goal. So we get this interesting contrast between two people who have pointed guns at Light. Ironically, though Matsuda is far more willing to kill people with a gun than Soichiro is, I would trust Matsuda with gun safety far more.
