A video on "positive discipline" from Edutopia. I'm not sure that I agree with the first two strategies as they seem to isolate and possibly shame the student which does not seem productive to me. Did standing in a corner ever work for you? I like the idea of mediation between students, however. What do you think?

Quote of the Day
"I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or honor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized" Haim Ginott (1991)

Quote of the Day
"Teachers play various roles in a typical classroom, but surely one of the most important is that of classroom manager. Effective teaching and learning cannot take place in a poorly managed classroom...But a well-managed classroom doesn't just appear out of nowhere. It takes a good deal of effort to create - and the person who is most responsible for creating it is [YOU] the teacher" (Marzano, Marzano & Pickering, 2003, 1).
