Come spesso accade, essendo la storia ambientata a Napoli, molti degli attori che figurano nello sceneggiato sono interpreti fissi di Un Posto al Sole. Gli unici fotogrammi che sono riuscita a reperire sono quelli di questo video di promozione. La colonna sonora utilizzata per la miniserie Rai è la stessa della pellicola originale, composta da Jordan Dean. Spero possiate apprezzare quanto me questo assaggio di eccellenza italiana, come al solito ingiustamente sottovalutata.

Riccardo Polizzy Carbonelli (Goncharov dopo la plastica facciale / after plastic surgery) While Goncharov (1973) is known just by a few connoisseurs, even fewer are the ones who know about its Italian remake made by national television towards the end of the 90s. As it often happens when a media is set in Naples, many of the actors for this production are also part of the cast of the popular Italian soap opera Un Posto al Sole. This is the only footage of the Italian adaptation I managed to put my hands on. It features the iconic score from the original movie, by the one and only Jordan Dean. I hope you’ll be able to appreciate this bit of criminally underrated Italian excellence as much as I did. (Cast is listed above. The YouTube video features English subtitles).

A Goncharov Typography Tuesday

This is one of the official typefaces used for Martin Scorsese’s iconic 1973 film Goncharov, arguably one of the finest Mafia movies ever made. The font first appeared as a calligraphic page in German type designer Rudolf Koch’s 1934 book Das ABC Büchlein published in Leipzig by Insel-Verlag. While other fonts were eventually used for titling and poster design, Scorsese was especially drawn to the chunky rawness of Koch’s design and found ways to incorporate the lettering into the film.

Our sample is from a 1976 facsimile The Little ABC Book of Rudolf Koch, published in America by David R. Godiine in an edition of 1000 copies designed and with a preface by Warren Chappell, a memoir by Koch’s colleague Fritz Kredel, and printed by the Meriden Gravure Company.

the rise in sex negativity amongst young queer people in recent years coinciding with the overall rise in conservative and particularly evangelical christian ideology is genuinely terrifying. i understand that unpacking ideas you've been taught since childhood is hard work but in the current political climate it's absolutely vital that you do not regurgitate queerphobic talking points (which queer people have been fighting against for decades). people are going to die, and it is our responsibility to minimise the damage, because governments and corporations sure as hell aren't going to.
