Meditation Tips
Hey guys!! I've been thinking about meditation a little bit more than usual lately, and i thought that it would be helpful if i made a post with some of my fave tips for meditating:
Stretch first; it's easier to relax your mind when your body is relaxed first, trust me on this.
Lightly touch your tongue to the roof of your mouth the entire time that you meditate. I find that it's a little bit more comfortable, but also it completes many energy pathways/circuits that help to facilitate meditation.
When you breathe, inhale deeply, holding, and then slowly releasing. As you enter a meditative trance, your breathing will become shallower and you might lose focus of it; that's okay
When you breathe, try to do diaphragmatic breathing. This is where as you inhale, your belly rises, and as you exhale, it falls. If you need practice, lie on your stomach and breathe for a while
Sit up straight if you can. If you are sitting on the floor, cross your legs. It doesn't have to be a full lotus position like we see in media; not everyone's legs/hips are capable of doing this. I actually sit in a Burmese position because it's most comfortable to me.
Side tip: if you are getting serious about meditation, I'd recommend getting a meditation cushion. It makes sitting on the ground much more comfortable, it helps to keep correct posture, and it makes it easier to meditate for longer periods of time. But if you're unsure or don't want to spend money, that's fine!! A chair with a cushion works perfectly fine
Mindfulness meditation isn't about "clearing your mind and emptying it of thoughts"; if you do this, you will get nowhere. It is more about just watching your thoughts, and developing an awareness of them
When you meditate, your mind should be a place where you can go and just "let go" and not try to do anything, except breathe. No trying to silence your thoughts, no trying to calm your emotions, just breathe. Let your thoughts run, and breathe. Let yourself feel anxious or angry, and breathe.
Try and meditate for 10 to 15 minutes a day. Trying to meditate for longer can be daunting and can discourage you. Small steps to bigger steps
Have patience; it can be difficult or uncomfortable at first, but if you stay at it, it will get easier and you will begin to see long-term results
That's it for now! I hope that you all find this helpful!
Blessings!!
