Is this what you're talking about? What happened to these outfits. I believe these outfits showed up in season 4 . Hopefully we'll see them again in season 5.

Hmm, I wonder if Jean Beazly made these dresses.

TDBM 2017
With the distant and far off promise of series 5 and a tele-movie to look forward and then possibly nothing more, I’ve begun to daydream, wonder, speculate.
While never really doing as good job as the originator here in the good ole U-S-of-A, we are unashamed of stealing a good idea and pretending it was one of our very own. Don’t hate me, but I was thinking, musing, wondering speculating.
What would TDBM look like if it were set in the States 1959, or if it were set in the present day. Could it even happen?
I read an article online where Nadine Garner said of her character that the woman of Jean Beazley’s day were “ a lot more measured and careful” http://about.abc.net.au/2015/02/the-mystery-of-jean/
What would Jean’s occupation be in 2017? Just how measured and careful would the present day Jean be? Would she have the same interests or would she be off to the gym followed by a yoga class and then a run. How would she, or could she get paired up in a “platonic” living situation with Lucien and boarders or would they call them as roommates?
Returning from the war, what would Lucien choose as his “drug of choice” to self medicate. Would a 2017 Mattie and Danny live with them because they couldn’t afford to repay their university loans and maintain an apartment? What would they say about Alice? That she was antisocial or just an introvert or something else altogether different. How would Edward (Tiny Man) Tynamen be portrayed? And Muno!!! OMG. How very scary he could be in 2017.
Your thoughts.

Rose was never suppose to take Mattie’s place. Rose is a lot more edgier than Mattie. She is the next generation which is a bit harsher than Mattie’s. Admit it, in some ways Rose is the mirror image of Charlie, and who liked him when he took Danny’s place. Rather than confide in Jean or Lucien, Rose chose to tell Charlie she was propositioned by her boss and like any woman of her time slugged him with a book and then was frozen out by the powers that be.
She’s meant to be just who she is, the kind of woman who will tell her daughter of the late 60′s and early 70′′s it’s okay to burn your bra. Anyway, keep in mind that she like Danny, Mattie, Charlie and Jean will come under the protection and teaching of Dr. Lucien Blake. A part of his appeal is that he is inclusionary; he brings people in his circle along with him for the discovery and he widens the circle as he goes. He makes Danny lay down on the floor and look at photos then shows them to Danny and says, “Tell me what you see Danny”. He takes Mattie into his lab, shows her 2 different pills with markings and after explaining a few things says to her, “ Tell me what you see Mattie”. Charlie, well Charlie he takes him everywhere and after a while Charlies asks for him so Blake can teach as he goes. And even though Jean, is very much his equal, when she’s not teaching him - the phone number on the blackboard (Yikes- don’t over think it Blake) . At the Colonist club he is teaching her. “Take a look at this photo Jean. Tell me what you see.”
What has all of this got to do with poor Rose......that upstart! She too has attended the school of Blake. Who quietly took photos of Mei Lin at the garden developed them and took them to Charlie. And what did Charlie do? He took Rose and the photos to Jean. She’s learning. She’ll never be a Mattie. But do we really want two Matties? No we don’t. We want a well acted drama with prickly characters, intelligent story lines which speak to what we live with today (premarital teen sex, athletic doping, racism, homosexuality, etc) shown to us the way they lived with it yesterday. Rose fits. She is the coming attractions. I think she may not be so likable because she is the beginning of tomorrow, what I call the loss of civility. Oh yes, that’s one of the reasons why I watch TDBM. It certainly wasn’t a perfect era, yet it takes me back to a more consciously civil time. Go Rose.
TDMB Character Spotlight: Rose Anderson
I have to admit, I have tried to warm to Rose and I haven’t. It’s like the writers said “We are going to replace Mattie with another modern young woman, only not as kind or polite and with a squeaky voice.” It doesn’t help that she springs fully formed from a void like Buffy’s little sister or the youngest Cosby kid. She does have some good character development, so maybe things will go further in season 5. Also I’d like to see her actually interact with Lawson.

Go back, go back to the beginning; season 1, Episode 1. You don't know it, but you're hooked. Welcome to the land of Ballarat, the home of Jean Beazly and Lucien Blake. Welcome!
Doctor Blake Mysteries
I ditched cable so I’m cruising through the channels available via my antenna and I come across the above program. Certain people here on Tumblr( you know who you are) post about said program so I figure what the heck, I’ll watch it. It was the episode where he finds out about his mother’s death and at the end of the episode I find myself yelling at him to go stop the f**king bus after watching one episode. So now I HAVE to find this and watch it.

The end of DBM?
Quite some time ago while browsing through a speciality shop I came upon a magnetic bumper sticker for a car. It read, “I must read books in chronological order.” It spoke to my soul because for me it’s so true, More than once I’ve picked up a novel, at the library and shortly into the read had the nagging feeling that “This is a series, and I’ve got to get to the first book.” So yes, I Google the author, the series , finish the novel I’m reading and go back to the library for the first novel and the beginning.
I want to meet the characters at the very beginning of their journey and go with them to meet the people with whom they will engage; gain insight from their perspective and at times jot down a character’s pearl of wisdom.
Louise Penny’s character, Inspector Gamache, is well known for teaching the officers he rescues from ruin and themselves to say, “ I don’t know. I was wrong. I’m sorry. I need help.” Louie’s character Ruth Zardo is a poet. One of her books is entitled" I’m F.I.N.E: Fucked-up Insecure Neurotic and Egotistical.“ And who isn’t. And then the reverse can be true. By the time I finished watching the 3rd episode of the DBM I was confident there must be a series of novels which was responsible for the spin off of the television show. It was so well done. But my research informed me DBM was first conceived as a television show.. I still didn’t give up hope. If they could do it with Star Wars; movies first then the novels, they must have done the same for The Doctor Blake Mysteries.
I searched the stacks of my library on line with no success. Finally it occurred to me to me to search the internet- Amazon, Barnes and Noble, something. Nothing, then lo and behold, I find Fanfiction.
The DBM Fanfiction writer’s community have been nothing less then become the very best ghostwriters for the DBM staff. They have satisfied my need for a good DBM read between seasons.
I trust The DBM stories will continue as long as the Fanfiction writers contribute to the community.Continue to write for yourselves and your readers.

A DBM reader's request
Dear DBM Fanfiction writer's, Truly I've enjoyed reading and at times rereading your work. I bumped into The Doctor Blake Mysteries by happy accident. Because I enjoy Mysteries an acquaintance recommended I take a look at an Australian TV show; The Code. I found it on YouTube. At the end of the show I saw the advertisement for The Doctor Blake Mysteries and searched it out. What joy. I don't know about any of you, but after the US election I was in need of escape. What better place than Ballarat, Australia, 1959. In 1959 I was 3, my mother 30, my grandparents 52 and 59 and I thought, my mother would have had something of Mattie's wardrobe (she was a nurse) . I cold imagine my grandmother dressing like Jean. Of course every generation and era has its troubles I know, nevertheless, the dress and mannerisms; the civility of the time had me hooked. I binged my way through all four seasons and began my internet search for the start of season 5. Waiting for season 5 to make its way to the US what to do, what to do? That's when my search delivered me to Fanfiction. Collectively your DBM fics themes have responded to, addressed or expanded on the DBM world BUT there is one phrase that I've not seen explored and it is this. "She boards with us" . It seems that from the first when asked Lucien Blake has said, "She boards with US." unknowingly acknowledging that he and Jean were a unit, a couple, a team a force. When Danny made it through the snake bite crisis Blake told Jean' "I think he should stay with US. Mattie's father came to town and her surrogate parents Jean and Lucian ( I call them mom and dad.) had to dance around his concern that she wrote home glowing reports of Jean. What did Lucian say, "WE love having her with US. When Jack stayed at the Blake house he was informed by Jean that ,"Mattie boards with US. Could one of you very skilled authors wrap this idea into a story? I bet even Bill Hobart gets it.
