New Perspective

When I first started @circles2lines I wanted to surreally capture the energy and vibration behind spaces and places. As an architecture enthusiast living in NYC, buildings, bridges, and angels became the imagery that I engaged with, using color and design to capture how it feels to look up and see a building 100 stories high but also the #linesoftheworld (#CarlosCastaneda) that create our perception of reality and ability to see alternate dimensions.

Yet, at the same time, I began to lament the urban space around me. I came to NYC for a lot of reasons but mainly to be part of the underground cultures that bring me life and joy, #housemusic, #rollerdisco, and #queerness. Over time even the beautiful underground became overshadowed by orchestrated destruction aka #gentrification. Seeing an increasingly homogeneous population and neighborhoods redesign to match their suburban palette changed the way I perceived space. I began to see the layers of reality: history, intentionally destructive policies, and current maneuverings and how these elements inform space, place, and urban design.  

The photo in this #collage was taken in the Garment District, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Manhattan that's rapidly disappearing along with many others. Vibrant fabric, designs, and beads and other brightly colored accessory pieces brought me to the narrowly packed shops. Overtime I started to  encounter more GOING OUT OF BUSINESS banners on my neighborhood walks than eclectically clad window mannequins. The more I payed attention, the more I saw VACANT spaces.

Through this series, VACANT, I want to display  places and spaces that are disappearing and becoming VACANT. What happens to energy and vibration when places, spaces, and people are displaced and disappear? How does becoming VACANT affect multiple dimensions of space and reality?

The new pieces that I'm working on engage with space, place, energy, and vibration in a different way than my earlier work. I’m still going to illuminate alternate realities, dimensions, and maybe even one day find a wormhole. But I also want to show how the ethereal and surreal can personify current issues and states of society.

Forward motion in #timessquare . . Glad to be back! I've been away for a bit and experimenting with new ideas and technique. My newest creations are all series sets, which was completely unintentional. I realized that there seemed to be themes across what I was thinking about and capturing. This is the first in a series of Times Square pieces 💥 . . I was thinking about how human energy merges with the #electromagnetic ⚡of the space. There is so much BoUnCiNg off the walls, streets, and corners there. I don't like what the space represents, but it does have an energy I've never felt anywhere else. ✌
