A good handful of Mouthwashing fans i’ve seen have been creating content and analysis that centers around what Jimmy did to Curly. which of course is devastating and amazing, however it seems like plenty of people have forgotten that the crash wasn’t what set everything into motion.

What Jimmy did to Anya was the catalyst for everything. THAT was the point where he could no longer fix things, the crash was just Jimmy’s reaction to being caught.

We never see it on screen, we never get to hear the name of Jimmy’s crime, yet it creeps in through all the cracks until the game outright asks Jimmy why he’s only concerning himself with Curly.

But Polle is always there. Polle is the first scary thing that happens to us. the Polle statue watches over the sleeping area in the lounge. Anya tells Curly how Jimmy joked about being sexually attracted to Polle, linking the two thematically. Polle is in every nook and cranny of the ship as Jimmy’s sanity unravels, though he refuses to acknowledge it because the real responsibility he is running from is not killing and maiming his friends, its raping Anya.
