Spell Troubleshooting

This is not an exhaustive list so please be encouraged to add onto this post. 

So your spell didn’t work?

Did you cast a circle? If not cast one and try the spell again. If you are new to casting circles you may have done it incorrectly. Do more research and try again.

Did you ground yourself? If you did not ground yourself before attempting the spell your magic may not have flowed correctly. Additionally, you may have opened yourself up to negative spirits that may have interfered with your spell. 

Did you make substitutions? Maybe you didn’t have the right ingredients so you made a substitution. Try getting your hands on the ingredients the spell calls for and try again.

Was the spell from a reliable source? Maybe the spell was not written for the purpose of witchcraft and is not effective for magic. 

Have you been slacking on your offerings? If part of your magical path is working with deities, spirits, or other entities, offerings are an important part of that relationship. If you have not given offerings recently, your magical guides may not be as interested in helping your spells come to fruition. 

Is something interfering with your spell? Have you noticed signs of a spirit or possibly the fae around your home? If so, do your research to find out whats interfering and how you can appease them.

Were you at a good energy level when you attempted it? Casting spells takes physical, mental, and spiritual energy. If you are lacking energy, especially spiritual energy, spells will not work. Try again when you’re feeling better. You can also increase your spiritual energy through meditation.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE YULETIDE

Twas the night before Yuletide and all through the glen

Not a creature was stirring, not a fox, not a hen.

A mantle of snow shone brightly that night

As it lay on the ground, reflecting moonlight.

The faeries were nestled all snug in their trees,

Unmindful of flurries and a chilly north breeze.

The elves and the gnomes were down in their burrows,

Sleeping like babes in their soft earthen furrows.

When low! The earth moved with a thunderous quake,

Causing chairs to fall over and dishes to break.

The Little Folk scrambled to get on their feet

Then raced to the river where they usually meet.

“What happened?” they wondered, they questioned, they probed,

As they shivered in night clothes, some bare-armed, some robed.

“What caused the earth’s shudder? What caused her to shiver?”

They all spoke at once as they stood by the river.

Then what to their wondering eyes should appear

But a shining gold light in the shape of a sphere.

It blinked and it twinkled, it winked like an eye,

Then it flew straight up and was lost in the sky.

Before they could murmur, before they could bustle,

There emerged from the crowd, with a swish and a rustle,

A stately old crone with her hand on a cane,

Resplendent in green with a flowing white mane.

As she passed by them the old crone’s perfume,

Smelling of meadows and flowers abloom,

Made each of the fey folk think of the spring

When the earth wakes from slumber and the birds start to sing.

“My name is Gaia,” the old crone proclaimed

in a voice that at once was both wild and tamed,

“I’ve come to remind you, for you seem to forget,

that Yule is the time of re-birth, and yet…”

“I see no hearth fires, hear no music, no bells,

The air isn’t filled with rich fragrant smells

Of baking and roasting, and simmering stews,

Of cider that’s mulled or other hot brews.”

“There aren’t any children at play in the snow,

Or houses lit up by candles’ glow.

Have you forgotten, my children, the fun

Of celebrating the rebirth of the sun?”

She looked at the fey folk, her eyes going round,

As they shuffled their feet and stared at the ground.

Then she smiled the smile that brings light to the day,

“Come, my children,” she said, “Let’s play.”

They gathered the mistletoe, gathered the holly,

Threw off the drab and drew on the jolly.

They lit a big bonfire, and they danced and they sang.

They brought out the bells and clapped when they rang.

They strung lights on the trees, and bows, oh so merry,

In colors of cranberry, bayberry, cherry.

They built giant snowmen and adorned them with hats,

Then surrounded them with snow birds, and snow cats and bats.

Then just before dawn, at the end of their fest,

Before they went homeward to seek out their rest,

The fey folk they gathered ‘round their favorite oak tree

And welcomed the sun ‘neath the tree’s finery.

They were just reaching home when it suddenly came,

The gold light returned like an arrow-shot flame.

It lit on the tree top where they could see from afar

The golden-like sphere turned into a star.

The old crone just smiled at the beautiful sight,

“Happy Yuletide, my children,” she whispered. “Good night.”

Return to Sender

⭐Preparation and ingredients⭐

You will need a figure candle with name carved into. (or a half red, half black candle and you will need to carve a double headed arrow running vertically through the center of both colors.) A photo (or the person's image in your mind.)

You will need crabs, crab legs or crab powder as crabs are said to walk in reverse and meant to carry things back to the source.

You will need reversing oil, black salt, paper for petitions with the target’s full name and date of birth written 4xs, and disposable mirrors. (Note, you should NEVER, I repeat NEVER look into these mirrors!

You will write the name and date of birth with intent on the back of the mirror. You will place your petitions on a plate, cover with return oil and and place your mirrors facing towards the ceiling over the petitions. You will then fill around them with black salt.

Be sure to cleanse all candles and mirrors with Florida water before beginning, to remove any past energies.

Be sure to add your intent and details.

During a waning moon, a moon in Scorpio, or a moon in Pisces

Meditate on the candle flame and focus on your intent to send the energy of the sender back to them. Manifest it going back to them stronger than it was when they sent it your way. Whenever they think of you with ill will, they will feel anxious. If they think themselves better than you, they will feel beneath you. If they have hexed or cursed you, that magick will come back to haunt them. If they’ve gotten between you and someone else, their own relationships will fall apart. Whatever trouble they’ve caused to you and yours, they will feel in their own life.

After your conviction is unwavering, say the incantation:

“Negative energy sent my way,

The mirror reflects, the sender repays.

Evil that was sent to me,

Returns to where it came.

As I will it, so mote it be.”

Let the candle burn down until it is finished, then discard the remnants away from your home (including the mirror).

Be sure to thoroughly cleanse your space afterwards.

What they are, and the process to making them (the way I do)

What is a home guardian?

Home guardians are magical protections and energy put into an object, sigil, whatever, to give it “life”. Sometimes these objects can be given enough energy that they become their own energetic beings, so I like to give them a “battery” for how long they work until I need to recharge them. There is nothing wrong with this happening, I just personally don’t want this result.

How do I make one?

First, figure out exactly what you want it to do. This includes things you don’t want it to do, what it can interfere with, what it can’t, how it will carry out whatever task with only itself and energy.

Basically, think of every angle and write it out so you don’t forget. I call this scripting out your workings (i don’t know if that’s a thing people say). This will ensure there are no holes in your work pretty much. I have a post on scripting coming.

Now, you have to pick what your guardian will be. I choose small knickknacks, gifts, sigils, or rocks most times, but whatever works for you is fine. CLEANSE IT. Seriously.

After cleansing whatever you choose and having your intent for your item all set, you can give it “life”. Hold it in your hands and visualize the energy leaving your body and entering the item. (I visualize it golden, it flows and moves like smoke.) Do this until the item feels full. As you are doing this you should also be thinking about exactly how you want your guardian to be.

Show it around its’ new space, give it an offering of water, coffee, something welcome-y. Put it somewhere where it can “see” everything. Put googly eyes on it if it helps you see the eyes, if its’ blocked by something, it may be vulnerable, or unable to work correctly. If you want, you can verbally tell them everything you want them to be after they are charged and given an offering to further seal the deal.

Have a method of charging it. Charge it through sunlight, a plant, a crystal, yourself, moonlight, etc. Some guardians may accept continuous offerings to give you protection if you program it to do so.

Lastly, make sure you have a way to take it down in case it doesn’t work out. If it is an object, simply moving the guardian out of its place and putting it away after a thorough cleanse will work. Communication is key! Tell it you don’t want it to do what it’s doing, and to return the energy.

For guardians that have turned into energetic beings, tell them that you don’t want to work with them anymore. They will either leave on their own, or you may have to banish them. This is part of why we have protections and wards.

Hi there, thank you for asking this! I haven't talked very much about cleansing crystals in depth.

There are multiple ways to cleanse your crystals, and I encourage trying different methods until you find something that works best for you (This applies to everything in witchcraft basically).

Why Cleanse Your Crystals?

(This is my opinion and experience)

Cleansing your crystals is so important. Crystals are like sponges and will absorb the energy of anything that touches it.

This means anyone who touches your crystals will have some of their energy absorbed by the crystal. If you have a really bad day with a crystal in your pocket, that energy gets absorbed by your crystal.

They project energy back out into the world as well. You don't want any negative energy projected back onto you.

When Do They Need Cleansing?

Cleanse them after:

A bad day if they were in your pocket or being worn.

You hang out with someone new

A ritual

A spell

If their energy feels old, stagnant, or stale

If you haven't paid attention to them in a while

You can cleanse them as often or as little as you would personally like.

How Do You Cleanse Them?

There are multiple ways to cleanse crystals. These are all of the ways that I know of:

NOTE: RESEARCH YOUR CRYSTALS not all of them are safe for water, salt, or sun cleansing

Smoke Cleansing - Lighting an incense, herbal bundle, or whatever you burn and using the smoke to cleanse your crystal.

Sun/Moon Light Cleansing - Leaving the crystals somewhere they can get sun/moonlight (window, outside, etc.) and cleansing them with the light for a few hours

Salt Cleansing - Sticking your crystals in a pile of salt for a couple of hours, cleansing them with earthy energies.

Earth Cleansing - Burying your crystals overnight for the earth to cleanse naturally (Mark where it is so you don't lose them)

Water Cleansing - Running water over your crystals or letting them sit in water for a little while.

Fire Cleansing - Lighting a candle and running your crystal over the candle flame

Sound Cleansing - Using the sound of a Tibetan singing bowl, bells, music, clapping, etc. you can cleanse your crystals by breaking up energy through the vibrations of sound.

Moon Phases and Their Meaning

The moon is an important part of witchcraft, the phase of the moon has its own spiritual meaning and practices that should be performed during that phase. This isn’t a fixed rule, but it gives your magick a little boost that it may need to come into fruition. Being in tune with the moon makes us stronger.

Checking the moon daily is a great way to keep track of the moon phases, along with having a moon calendar in your phone. I also track the sun on my phone, but that isn’t necessary, it’s my personal preference.

New Moon 🌑

The new moon is a time of new beginnings and setting intentions. Some use this as a time of contemplation and self reflection, but this can also be done in later moon phases.

Waxing Crescent 🌒

This is the official moon phase for setting intentions, but I always do it in the new moon. This can also be used as a time of action, to act on your intentions

First Quarter 🌓

The moon for making decisions is the first quarter moon, this is a great time to begin acting on your intentions if you haven’t yet.

Waxing Gibbous 🌔

This is a time to further refine your intention and fine tune it into exactly what you want, revisit your new moon and crescent work to do this accurately.

Full Moon 🌕

Full moon is a time of manifesting, sealing intentions, and release. Let go of your expectations and allow the universe to simply make it happen

Waning Gibbous 🌖

This is a moon phase to show gratitude for the universe, the people around you, yourself, and everything you care for. Gratitude is so important and is underrated in my opinion.

Last Quarter 🌗

The last quarter signifies forgiveness. What is still hurting you? What can you let go of? Remember that forgiveness isn’t for the person in question to feel better, it is only for you. Also remember that you do not have to forgive someone if you feel they do not deserve it.

Last Crescent 🌘

This moon phase is about surrendering. Hold gratitude in your heart and release what doesn’t serve you as you move into the darkness of the new moon. This is also a great time to reflect on yourself.
