이화여자대학교 Ewha’s Womans University was founded in 1886 by Mary F. Scranton, a Methodist Episcopal Church missionary. This university started as the Ewha Girls School under Emperor Gojong and was the first modern educational institute for Korean women. Presence of American Missionaries influenced the establishment and growth of a few well-known universities in the country, including Yonsei University, which is another interesting aspect of the influence of both Christian and American presence in the Peninsula throughout history. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8YpTNdhPVX/?igshid=oihencbcbx5x

종로구에 있는 중앙교회 Chungang Church in Jongno-gu, very close to the famous Dongdaemun Design Plaza. Found this tiny neighborhood called Chungsin-dong full of old Hanok style houses and right next to the Fortress Wall of Seoul. This might be one of my favorite pictures in the project. 과낙구에 있는 갈릴리장로교회 Galilee Church in Gwanak-gu area. The cross lights up at night and it's quite the view (and I absolutely regret not taking photos at nighttime!) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8Iyox4hUhH/?igshid=1ea5r60k7492k

Not a proper Korean church if not in the same building as a dry cleaners, a pharmacy and a supermarket 🤷🏻♀️ https://www.instagram.com/p/B7nyIY0Bj8A/?igshid=1u701ilbdc2k4

Megachurches are huge Protestant congregations with at least 2.000 members attending weekly. Most of them are in the US, but the largest is in South Korea and is the one you can see in this picture. Yoido Full Gospel Church sits 12.000 people at once. It has about 25.000 members and is the largest Pentecostal Christian congregation in South Korea and the world. Built in 1973, this large building sits right across the National Assembly in Seoul. Large incomes in these megachurches are often accompanied by scandals like embezzling of funds. There are recorded acts of vandalism in Buddhist temples from members of megachurches like Yoido Full Gospel Church, which have contributed to the decrease in popularity of large well-established congregations. #churchesofseoul https://www.instagram.com/p/B7iTWqDhPPY/?igshid=b2785q5poi1n
