 The Story.
When Olly moves in next door, Maddy immediately feels attracted to him. They soon start talking to each other via Imessage and email but it doesn’t take long before Carla, Maddy’s nurse sneaks Olly inside while Pauline, Maddy’s mom is at work. Maddy is extremely sick, she has SCID, which means she cannot leave her house or interact with whatever that isn’t sanitized. Otherwise she could get really sick. She was able to talk Carla into it making it happen. Soon this starts to turn into a regular thing, Olly stays on his side, Maddy on hers but that rule is soon broken once Maddy sits next to him. They end up kissing which is a first for Maddy. When she asks him if its ever like that he tells her it’s never. When Olly and his dad start to get physical outside Maddy panics and runs outside to help Olly, her mom starts to get suspicious and then finds Olly’s rubber black bracelet in the room. She fires Carla and bans Maddy from seeing Olly ever again. She doesn’t like Maddy thinking about dating or kissing. Maddy isn’t the kind of girl who should be doing that. She tells Maddy that Olly won’t wait around forever and that he’s not HER Olly. That someday he’ll meet a girl and she’ll laugh about his jokes... He’ll be that girls Olly. This obviously hurts Maddy but she doesn’t stop texting him. After Maddy’s mom showed her a picture of her family in Hawaii, Maddy decides to go there since it looks like that was the last place she could actually be normal. She talks Olly into it by lying and telling him she found pills online that will help her not to get sick so soon. They leave and have a great time but that soon ends when she wakes up in the middle of the night, both hot and cold, sweating and hurting. Her heart stopped, but only for a moment. Olly soon calls 911 but also her mom who comes to Hawaii. Maddy eventually wakes up in her own bed, feeling dizzy but good. Her mom sits next to her, but doesn’t look mad, only disappointed. She decides that maybe having Olly in her life isn’t a good idea. How will she be able to be in a relationship if she can’t go out? She breaks up with him and a few days later, she sees him Kara, and his mom loading boxes in a truck. They’re moving. Finally leaving his dad. They make eye contact for the last time and then he’s gone. After that happened, Maddy gets an email from the doctor that treated her in Hawaii. Saying that she should probably get tested again because the doctors found nothing that had to do with SCID. It comes in a lot of forms but they couldn’t find any form. Maddy confronts her mom but her mom denies. She tells her they don’t know her history and they got her hopes up and that they are unprofessional for doing that. Maddy nods her head but knows something is wrong. When Pauline is asleep, Maddy decides to sneak in her office and try to find the document for SCID. But she finds nothing. Her mom has been lying for so long. She decides to stay with Carla as her mom now goes to therapy. Therapy reveals that when Maddy’s brother and dad passed away, she got really sick. Pauline didn’t want to lose her as well so she used SCID as an excuse to keep her away from the world so nothing would ever happen to her. Maddy flies over to New York, where Olly lives now and they meet again in a bookstore, where she hid his favorite book.

My Review.
This is honestly one of my favorite books I have read so far. The way Maddy sees everything and the way it’s being explained so beautifully by the author it gives me chills. This book sends so many different yet important messages like how people who are so close could lie to keep you that close, the fact that a family could seem perfect but isn’t at all. And the love between two young people who both have issues. I think this book is absolutely perfect.
