Before he wrote Old Boy or Astral Project, Garon Tsuchiya (aka “Marley Carib”) put together boxing stories for realist artists like Ryōichi Ikegami and Jirō Taniguchi. This is the earliest of those, a reggae-inflected tale of a losing fighter with a killing spirit caught up in episodic international blood sports.
(Blue Fighter, Jirō Taniguchi, written by Garon Tsuchiya, c. 1981)
