Julia was one of the few potentials the council were able to locate before they were activated but she would eventually die before she ever got to experience the full power of being the slayer despite officially holding the title for 12 years. As a potential she was assigned James Carson for her watcher, he was very dedicated to her, having lost a potential a couple years prior, something he did not want to go through again.

In 1977, Nikki Wood was killed by the infamous vampire Spike, an action which caused James’ two year old daughter to be activated as the slayer. Since Sanjana was too young to begin training and would not be ready for active duty for many years, the council made the decision to declare Julia the new slayer as she was one of their more experienced potentials.

Julia was beyond honoured and took the calling very seriously, it shook her faith for a long time when she found that her activation had been faked but ultimately decided that protecting the innocent was more important and that it was still an honour to be chosen by the council over all the other potentials.

When Sanjana began to go through her training, Julia did her best to help, knowing how dangerous being the slayer was and that she would need all the preparation she could get. Despite this Julia found that the young girl was rather cold to her at the beginning, unaware that Sanjana blamed her for the lack of attention she received from her father. However, the two eventually became very close, Julia treating her like a younger sister.
