Rhaelya shippers always doubled standards and hypocrites just like their fav🙄
I think the way some portions of the fandom treat arranged marriage is very interesting because I have such a differing view on the topic that makes it impossible for me to find a middle ground with a good deal of people.
I understand that some people see arranged marriages in asoiaf as an equivalent to modern marriages, but, in my opinion, that’s a false equivalence.
Truthfully, I believe there’s a genuine double standard and a severely hypocritical attitude about the topic as well. I know for certain that people wouldn’t care if one or both parties of certain cases of arranged marriages “cheat,” and perhaps they would even cheer the characters on, but when it comes to x or y character this suddenly becomes the most grievous of sins. I realize that this is a bit of a blanket statement to make, so I want to clarify that I know the topic is more nuanced than what I’ve made it seem like. However, I believe that at the core of this stance lies a deeply rooted hypocrisy and double standard.
What am I talking about? Well I’m talking about some portions of the fandoms views on Rhaegar and Lyanna’s potential love story. Tbh this seems like the only thing I ever post about nowadays 🤦‍♀️
Anyways, if you specifically take issue with the “cheating” portion of Rhaelya’s relationship, then do you apply the same standards to all the other “cheaters”? No matter what? No matter who? No matter how that marriage was forced upon x or y character?
As for me, I only consider there to have been cheating in an arranged marriage if the characters were in love. Because at that point, the arranged marriage becomes an actual equivalent to a modern marriage.
Nedcat? If they had other partners then I’d call it cheating.
Doran and Mellario? If they had other partners while still together then I’d consider that to be cheating.
Dany and Hizdahr? That’s like the definition of a political marriage so no Dany is not cheating when she’s with Daario.
Cersei and Robert? Nope. Not cheating. I’m glad they both had other partners.
Rhaegar getting with Lyanna while married to Elia? Since I always attempt to be consistent, I’ll have to say I don’t consider that to be cheating :)
I think there are a few genuine grievances to have, and I do understand if you’re uncomfortable with the likely canon pairing, but these headcanons and fanonland shit takes are getting out of control. Y’all gotta stop acting like your personal interpretations of the text are actual canon. Please. Stop. Get some help. The whole ‘you can’t argue with me because somehow my interpretation is superior’ nonsense and the ‘this is the one true truth’ makes any discussion on the topic stale.
I and many other people (i don’t actually know if other people share this grievance with me but i’d bet a penny that at least one person does) are tired of having to constantly repeat that we do not know what went down before and during the rebellion. We do not know what situations the characters of that time period were in, and we do not know why they chose to do what they did.
Just now when I was scrolling on reddit I was reminded that we don’t even know what Robert’s true thoughts were about the murders of Elia and her children. Like bruh look how little we know. So stop it with the ‘this character did this because of this I just know and you must go along with my bs’
That was a word vomit, but yeahhh 👍

I think after reading Fire and Blood, the Blacks won the bloodlines because all of them come from Rhaenyra and the Greens won the ideology because all of the Targaryen’s rulers were men. I feel sad the tragedy happened to the children of Rhaenyra Targaryen and the children of Aegon II Targaryen, they were just victims of the result of their parent's conflict. Also, in my opinion, Rhaenyra Targaryen and Aegon II weren’t fit to be rulers.

I’m talking about the hypocrisy this stan.
It’s so disgusting with Lyanna’s stans are so hypocritical just like their fav, Lyanna. They’re very happy when they shipped Rhaegar who is the married man who had children and Lyanna. But Lyanna’s stans can not accept the fact that Lyanna is the definition of a homewrecker.
You know what a is homewrecker right? A person blamed for the break-up of a marriage or long-term relationship, especially as a result of having an affair with one of the partners.
And there she is, the hypocrite who broke up the marriage of Rhaegar and Elia. And made Rhaegar secretly annulled his marriage to high septon.
Anyways, by Westeros standards. Lyanna is an adult.
And you know, Lyanna wasn’t innocent, she was the type like Arya who always defended herself
Well, another of her hypocrites. She doesn't like womanizer Robert but runs away with Rhaegar who has children. Technically, she won't be a mistress when Rhaegar makes her his second wife but he was still unfaithful to his first wife. So what I'm trying to say is that Lyanna probably thought Robert will have other women even while married but Rhaegar won't because he doesn't visit whorehouses and will marry her. By the rules of their world, there will be no bastards from Rhaegar unlike with Robert.

There are two theories about Jon Snow’s parentage:
1. Jon Snow's biological parent, Ned Stark and Ashara Dayne.
2. Jon Smow's biological parent, Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark.
When people say that IF that's true Jon Snow’s biological parents are Ned Stark and Ashara Dayne, people will be mad because think Ned wouldn’t do that because he was honorable and never cheated on Catelyn. But when it was said Jon Snow’s parents were Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, all of this fandom will support and romanticize them. Though Rhaegar and Lyanna's affair was one of the causes of rebellion. The mad king burned the father and brother of Ned Stark and they demanded Rhaegar for justice to find Lyanna. Also, the rebellion happened because the mad king demanded Ned and Robert’s heads.
Y’all are so sick and hypocritical also double standards to normalize and romanticize relationships between Rhaegar and Lyanna, but get mad if happened something romantic between Ned and Ashara.

Why do people in this fandom normalize an affair between Rhaegar and Lyanna?
Because Rhaegar’s marriage was arranged. So it means the reason for arranged marriage is an excuse for cheating and cheating with a highborn woman and running away with her?
Not like that. Just because the marriage was arranged doesn't make it an excuse to affair and run away with the other woman, especially to fulfill the prophecy.
If the three of them were still alive after the rebellion. And People knew the relationships between Rhaegar and Lyanna, the people would surely support them. Because Lyanna is from the North and she is the Stark. And that put Elia and her children's lives in danger. It can happen like the Blackfyre rebellion. Because a lot of people are racist and sentimental towards Dornish.
This fandom is sick of normalizing an affair between Rhaegar and Lyanna. But if happens to Ned Stark if he really has an affair or their other favorite character in the affair, they will be mad.

I don't understand with this fandom. Why did they always romanticize Rhaegar and Lyanna’s relationships, was it because of the theory that they were Jon Snow's parents (book theory and not confirmed, but it’s confirmed on the show)?
This fandom has always had a double standard.
For example, Lyanna Stark and Robert Baratheon were betrothed, but Lyanna Stark did not love Robert, and she knew Robert was terrible person, right?
So she and Rhaegar ran away and hid at the Tower of Joy, wasn't that part of the affair?
This fandom always said, that Lyanna willingly ran away with Rhaegar because of love (you can see in the fandom especially on their shipper, and also most fans of asoiaf support the relationship between Rhaegar and Lyanna).
Rhaegar left his wife and their children at the Dragonstone without protection and left them with the risks. He knew his father was mentally unstable and racist to Elia and their children (example: When Rhaenys was born) because Elia was from Dorne.
Rhaegar was a married man and Lyanna was just a girl. But why this fandom is always romanticizing their relationship?
I felt this couple were truly idiots. Rhaegar left his family to fulfill the prophecy (imo, Rhaegar was creepy person), and Lyanna willingly ran away with him. She made her father and her brother search for her and demanded Rhaegar to the mad king for justice to find her. But they get burned by the mad king. Also, the mad king demanded Ned and Robert’s head. It started a rebellion.
I read the books and watched the show, and i knew it was some different especially after season 5.
Someone, but please explain why people always romantize between Rhaegar and Lyanna from your perspective….
