Johnny Depp’s legacy to the Magical World.
This week, we celebrate the anniversaries of two releases: The “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” release on November 16 and the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” on November 18. As we know, unfortunately Johnny was asked to resign from his role - one of the main and more important characters of the franchise - Gellert Grindelwald after the wrong “verdict” of the The Sun’s Case in the UK Trial.
Although some people didn’t like Johnny’s performance, WE DO need to recognize, respect and accept that along J.K. Rowling, Johnny was the one who created and brought Gellert Grindelwald to life.
In case you didn’t know, I’ll bring some curiosities:
> Joining the Magical World:
Johnny always thanked J.K. Rowling, David Yates and David Heyman for believing and giving him the opportunity to join the magical world.
“I could not be more honored to have been invited into this world by David Yates, David Heyman and J.K. Rowling. I felt thoroughly humbled to be thought of for anything in one of J.K.’s brilliant stories because I admire her so much. When the idea first came around, she and I talked for hours, and what amazed me was Jo (J.K. Rowling) never once dictated to me how Grindelwald should be. She gave me information to build the structure, and so you work within the boundaries of that structure, but she was also very open to my ideas. One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard in my career was when Jo said, ‘I can’t wait to see what you do with the character.’ Obviously, all these characters are very precious to her, so for her to trust me to that degree was very exciting and such a boost of confidence.” ~ Johnny Depp.
He, who used to read the Harry Potter books for his children Lily-Rose and Jack Depp, also showed some concern about his acceptance by the public who as soon knew he was going to join the franchise, wanted to replace him due to Amber Heard’s Hoax. But neither the writer, director nor producers did it, and instead, they openly defended Johnny. J.K. Rowling, who also suffered with domestic abuse, and also one of the few people who had seen the documents proving Johnny’s innocence, openly defended him on her twitter own site: “Based on our understanding of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies.” ~ J.K. Rowling
“Obviously, the guiding principle was where Jo (J.K. Rowling) started, which was he’s a bit of a rockstar, and he’s charismatic, he’s beguiling, he’s troubled, he’s a sociopath, and so I wanted to see how witty he could be, how dangerous he could be, and how compelling and convincing he could be.” ~ David Yates about Grindelwald and Johnny.
Once again, it’s important to clarify that Johnny was not fired by the directors or the author, but by the STUDIO Warner Bros. Neither the actors nor those who worked with him in the movie and behind the scenes said a bad thing about Johnny, but the Warner Bros. didn’t want him since day 1, and took the UK “verdict” to take him out of the franchise.
> Johnny brings Grindelwald to the real world:
“As an actor, your job is to be true to both the writer’s intent and to the vision of the director, so I try to give the filmmakers options. And David’s mind is so connected to J.K.’s works. He understands her artistry, almost like understanding the brushstrokes of a great painter.” ~ Johnny Depp.
Johnny is known for always contributing for the movie in different ways. A different scene, different angle, different line, but sometimes he goes beyond. Some directors doesn’t like when an actor give some advices indicating some changes, but in the “Fantastic Beasts”, the author, director, writers and producers were always open, and accepted and gave full freedom to Johnny bring his ideas to life. If you didn’t know, was Johnny who literally created the physical Grindelwald from head to toe; from his clothes, to his appearance and his personality. J.K. Rowling gave him the main information, and Johnny built everything around it.
* Johnny talks about Grindelwald’s personality:
“One of the things David, Jo and I talked about was that it would have been simple to play Grindelwald as just a bad guy, but he is doing what he truly believes is right, at whatever cost. His whole pitch is about harmony, but within his parameters - meaning the only way to achieve that harmony is through wizarding world domination and by understanding that there are people who are expendable. If they are in the way, then they must be dispatched. And he’s pretty calm about it.”
“It would be very easy to just go in and play a guy who’s… just play him evil. But one of the things that Jo (J.K. Rowling) and David (David Yates) and I talked about was: “No one, no matter who they are or how horrible they are, how evil they are, they don’t wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and say ‘Ahh, I’m gonna go out and do really bad things today’ No, he’s doing what he believes is right at whatever cost.”
“There is a rhythm to the way Grindelwald speaks, a cadence that draws you in. Ultimately, what I felt about the character in terms of his presence is that it would be an exercise in stillness. I mean, his words are important, but what’s even more important with Grindelwald is the subtext of those words. It is the dialogue that’s silent - the meaning between the lines. It’s almost hypnotic.”
* Grindelwald’s wand:
“I was blown away. In my mind, it didn’t register at first that it was the Elder Wand. But then I realized that Grindelwald has the most powerful instrument of magic, be it bad or be it good.” ~ Johnny Depp.
Although it was not created by him, was Johnny who gave a different way of how Grindelwald would handle. It was also revealed that while the other actors were taking lessons to how attack with their wands (which sometimes ended up broken), Johnny choose to make the way he moves his wand fit with Grindelwald’s personality. “When Johnny conducts a barrage of spells he’s like a conductor guiding an orchestra - except instead of creating music he’s effectively creating fiery mayhem and death.” ~ David Yates.
* Grindelwald’s eyes:
“One of the many great things about working with Johnny is that he always has a hand in designing almost every aspect of his look.” ~ Jessica A. Nelson from Veiled Optics.
Although J.K. Rowling never thought about it, it was Johnny’s idea to Grindelwald have different colors in his eyes. Johnny designed himself the original design which was later hand painted by Veiled Optics. In the end, 5 contact lenses were made, and in the movie Johnny is seen wearing two.
“It’s a character choice. I saw Grindelwald as more than one, if you know what I mean. I almost felt like he’s maybe two people. He’s twins in one body. So a gamey eye is more like the other side of him. Sort of like a brain for each eye, an albino twin, and he’s somewhere in the middle.” ~ Johnny Depp. “He has one white eye, which was not anything J.K. had suggested; it was a choice I made, and I am so thankful that she and David accepted what it symbolized for me. It represents his other half - his ability to turn on a dime from the gentle to the brutal in a nanosecond.” ~ Johnny Depp.
* Grindelwald’s Clothes:
“Well, Johnny Depp and I talked about Grindelwald, and with David Yates, the director, where we wanted to go… We used these charms that are kind of antique Charivari, which is their word for their magical charms that come from the woods and that sort of world of the forest. We wanted a wizarding looking silhouette with the big coat, so we used a coat that has a lot of play in it in the back. You see it in the trailer. And then when I went to fit Johnny, we’re watching an old Marilyn Manson thing, and Johnny goes, ‘Yeah, those pants are really great.’ They were these tight leather, almost knee pants. And we’re like, ‘Okay, let’s go there with the pants.’ So he was our inspiration for that. And then, the boots were sort of quasi-military style from the period that we went with. I layered him up. He has a dark shirt that he wears for the final ceremony, and a white scarf. He has a white shirt too that he wears in an earlier part, but for the finale, I thought it was great in the set with his white hair and stuff to have the dark shirt.” ~ Colleen Atwood.
Colleen Atwood also revealed that they used to listen to Marilyn Manson’s songs to get some inspiration as they talked about Grindelwald’s Bavarian origins. Also, meanwhile, Johnny explored some fashions of the 30’s to choose the closest fabrics and colors for Grindelwald’s clothes.
“Very black and white to go with his shock of platinum blond hair. But with dark green elements” ~ Colleen Atwood.
To help him step into the role, Johnny worked with his long-time friend and costume designer, Colleen Atwood, discussing the origins of Grindelwald’s characters and how Johnny could best embody his qualities. Johnny and Colleen started with the character’s name: “Grindelwald” which suggests and alpine twist.
“I’ve always loved Bavarian clothing-the punched leather and the detailed embroidery-and have long thought lederhosen were incredibly sexy. And johnny went for it. We coupled the lederhosen with a tall boot. We kept circling back and ended up with a kind-of Bavarian-meets-the-new-romantic look. No one is more graceful actor in a costume than Johnny. When he knows it’s right, his movement in the costume sells the design”. ~ Colleen Atwood.
Although fancy fashion, Johnny is introduced in the movie on his worst, in rags of a beige-brown prison garb originally made from a printed fabric inspired by Japanese firemen. And of course, he contributed to add some of his own ideas for the moment:
“Johnny wanted to be covered in cobwebs. So we started laying on this tiny. Thin threads that look aged and webby” ~ Colleen Atwood.
> A Legacy:
These are just some of the curiosities of many others that people didn’t know, or rather chose to ignore. As usual Johnny gave 100% + 1 to make on the best villains ever. He’s not that kind of actor who will just wait for the day of filming to make his part and finish as soon as possible. Johnny respectfully involves himself in everything from the writing, to the performance, to the designs, to the makeup and everything he can to contribute, like the amazing special appearance which caught everyone by surprise at the San Diego Comic Con. Along a scene filmed between last September and October, there’s a huge probability of a lot of material, like official photos, promotional material, test photos of clothes, make-up, and etc, have gone to waste after Johnny’s depart from the franchise. Even material from the second movie. This is a HUGE disrespect, not one to Johnny, but for those who worked hard throughout these years, all for us, fans who were waiting for another masterpiece, actors, directors, crew and author.
It’s sad, but Warner Bros and the Fantastic Beasts Franchise lost a HUGE actor. I don’t blame J.K. Rowling or the directors for this decision.
Will the next actor do the same? Only time will tell. Will the studio try to “steal” Johnny’s ideas? Probably. But never forget:
NO ONE does it better than Johnny Depp.
Thank you for your hard work, baby! You are the best. We are proud of you.
“All the humanity… We who live for freedom, for truth, the moment has come to rise up and take our rightful place in the world.” - Johnny as Gellert Grindelwald during the San Diego Comic-Con (July 21, 2018).
This is Johnny Depp’s legacy for Magical World.

True gentle-man
They say is overrated, it's an insult to women, they can perfectly open the door by themselves. I know they can but they totally miss the reason why a gentle-man opens that door for you. It is and act of respect and support not and act of domination or belitteling. Just a small thing to make you feel special and loved and your day a little better. The same as being kind and polite to others, it does not cost you a dime. It only makes the world a little bit of a better place to live in.

A thread by Brian McPherson
Here we go! Amber claims on May 21, 2016, she feared for her safety because of an angry Johnny Depp.
She claims she sent a text to her friend & neighbor Raquel. A text Raquel testified to have recieved at 8:06 pm.
After the “text” she called her friend IO, who was in New York at the time. While on the call with IO, she claims Johnny threw the phone into her face as hard as he could, and then pulled her hair and further struck her repeatedly in the face.
She testified that she yelled for IO to call 911.
IO stated that in a “split second” he decided to call 911.
Raquel stated that she went to Amber’s condo IMMEDIATELY after receiving the text at 8:06 pm.
According to Amber’s testimony, all of the alleged violence & scream for IO to call 911 happened before Raquel entered.
Meaning the “split second” decision to call 911 IO described had to be by 8:06 pm or very soon after. Amber & her friends testified under oath that Johnny brandished a magnum sized bottle of wine, listing the “candles, fruit, glass, jars, vases, flowers, wine, cutlery and baskets” that he smashed to the floor.
Amber also testified that “Penthouse 5 was destroyed”. In Amber’s deposition, she testified that she called her lawyer (Samantha Spector) in the “few minutes” between when Johnny left & when she claimed the police arrived.
This is very important to note.
Surveillance footage shows Johnny leaving the building at precisely 8:29 pm.
Meaning the call to Amber’s lawyer would have been around that time as well. A “few minutes later” the police arrived, if Amber’s sworn testimony is true. Except here is where her story hits a big speed bump…or mountain…or wall. This is the LAPD Incident Recall Log.
Note the time of the 911 call from IO.
- 22:09 - Which is 10:09 pm
Further down you can see the LAPD unit enroute (ER) at - 22:17 - or 10:17 pm
Then at the scene (AS) at - 22:24 - or 10:24 pm
So IO & Amber both lied about when he called 911! He testified he made a “split second decision” to call 911 to “save Amber’s life.” A call that, according to their own alleged timeline, would have occurred around 8:06 pm. But if he wanted to save Amber’s life, why did he wait 2+ hours to make his life saving call? Why did Amber testify police arrived a “few minutes later” when it was over 2 hours later?
The answer is simple. They needed time to get their story straight. This is where Amber’s lawyer, Samantha Spector, enters into the hoax.
Remember Johnny is on surveillance video leaving at 8:29 pm. Around this time Amber testified she called Spector, “in the few minutes” before the cops arrived. We now know the cops didn’t actually arrive until 10:24 pm. So that gave the co-conspirators (Amber, her 3 friends, & lawyer) around 1 hour & 40 minutes to sort out their story. All guided by her lawyer, telling them everything they’d need to say and do for legal maneuvering, and the most beneficial outcome. This involvement of Amber’s lawyer in the hoax is supported by the testimony of Amber’s neighbor, Isaac Baruch.
He testified to have seen Amber the day after the alleged incident & in the days leading up to her media and court presentation of her “injuries” on May 27th. Mr. Baruch testified that he saw Amber multiple times that week, clearly & up close, with no makeup and no signs of injury. Shortly after Amber’s “bruises” were made public, Amber asked Baruch to dinner. He declined saying he didn’t feel comfortable with her following her fake public claims.
He testified that she replied “the lawyers are doing all of this.”
Her excuse for her own behavior was that it was all just the lawyers. The May 21st abuse hoax was sold to the public as the natural, panicked, safety-oriented reactions of three frightened women. Although none of the facts they presented under oath survives any scrutiny, the cynical legal maneuvering has survived 3 years. The lie about the 911 call is actually one of many lies disproven by objective evidence. Including lies about when IO called 911, what was happening when he called, the destruction to the penthouses Johnny supposedly wrought immediately after he called, when the police showed up, & potentially when, how long and what Amber spoke to her lawyer about. Disproving these lies, with evidence like police call logs and police depositions, continues to kick the foundation of the hoax out brick by brick.

Amber Heard abused Johnny Depp
Doug Stanhope’s statement:
We’d watched it build like this since before they were married. We’d watched her manipulate and f— with him for years. We didn’t say a word. To each other, yes, but never to him. When your friend is in an awful, abusive relationship — man or woman — … http://www.thewrap.com/johnny-depp-is-being-blackmailed-by-amber-heard-heres-how-i-know-guest-column/

May 2014: plane
Heard was verbally harassing Johnny during the fight and in an attempt to calm her, “stretched his leg out to playfully tap her on the bottom with his foot, but not reach her.”
He claims Heard “took great offence at this harmless act and continued to verbally berate” him. Depp says he then went “to the plane’s bathroom, locked the door and slept on the floor with a pillow.” [x]
August 2014, island
Johnny went to his island to cure his dependence on painkillers. He says Heard was only there because she insisted on going in place of his assistant.
He required 24 hour medical care and was frequently sedated because of the physically painful process of withdrawal. Heard intervened and withheld medicine from him which caused him to have spasms and withdrawals.
The doctor flew out because of that and they returned to Los Angeles sooner than planned. [x]
march 8, 2015, australia
Depp had been avoiding Heard that day but ultimately, after not having a drink for over a year, he sought to avoid Ms. Heard by going to the downstairs bar in the house. She followed him, screaming at him abusively.
At that point, Depp poured himself a vodka and drank it. That’s when Heard threw a bottle at him and missed. He had another drink and Heard then threw the second bottle, which resulted in Depp’s severed finger.
It is then that Ms. Heard then put a cigarette out on [Depp’s] right cheek.
Photo of Depp that was taken in an Australian hospital a few hours after the alleged incident took place.
It shows the actor laying on a hospital gurney, with his hand bandaged, and what Depp’s legal team says is the cigarette burn on his cheek.

Open Letter to Amber Heard
Hello everyone, I really wanted to come on here to just celebrate the official greenlight for Fantastic Beasts 3 and do a couple of headcannons. Unfortunately in looking up the latest news surrounding the project, I learnt something that has genuinely disturbed me and before I can celebrate, I need to get this off my chest.
I’m not the best purveyor of news but I’ll try to summarize. For those of you who don’t know Amber Heard is attempting to force Johnny Depp to undergo an intensive psychological assessment and demanded all his mental health and addiction records to try and prove that he may have abused her but just didn’t remember it (not kidding). All the while, maintaining her victimhood across social media.
This is my letter to her.
Dear Amber,
You may never read this, that’s fine. You might ignore this, that’s okay too. But if for one second you happen to stop and listen, then listen carefully. Yes I am a fan of your ex-husband but more importantly, I am also a victim of abuse, abuse that has never stopped. Not spousal abuse, but from family, from romantic partners, for years. I have been gaslit, manipulated, beaten, verbally berated, shamed, and made to feel like shit for so long, I can scarcely remember a time when it wasn’t constant presence in my life. I’ve even had someone tell me I deserve an abusive husband to ‘straighten me out’.
And if you felt just one-tenth of the pain I have, you wouldn’t have dared to do Johnny or anyone what you are doing know. Because you’d know. You’d know the shame, the fear, the guilt. The constant press of anxiety on you at all times to be whole and happy because the world can’t deal with how broken you’ve become. So you try to hide away all the bitterness and put on a brave face, a quiet brave face. Surviving is silence. Indefinite silence. Maybe a few days out of the whole month, you feel good enough to post a picture with small caption with #goodvibes or some equally trite crap. There is no subtweeting or alluding Instagram captions. No op-eds in the NY Times or grandstanding in court. You don’t attack another person’s mental health and expose their lives for the whole world to see because you’d know how guarded pain makes someone.
Every victim feels their trauma differently. I know that. But what you are demanding of Johnny is what every abuser demands of their victim. Not the other way around. To be stripped bare for the world to mock and judge and if somehow they still some credibility, perhaps they have a chance to be heard. And that’s all a true victim asks for. To be heard. Perhaps you’re hoping for the karma angle or poetic justice; this isn’t it. This is you perpetrating a cycle you claimed to want to tear down. This is you bastardizing the plight of victims for clout and clicks.
I don’t hate you Amber. I’m numb to you. The same way I’m numb to my ex-boyfriend who used me for my body and made me feel like it was a privilege that he even cared to touch me. The same way I’m numb to my ‘family’ who only see me for what I can do for them. You’re no different from them. I feel used by you Amber. Even though you have no idea who I am, you’re pretending to be like me, claiming you to feel the pain that I feel so intimately. You are using me and anyone else who has suffered to make yourself an icon in a time when victims should be centre stage. You’ve stolen the light from real suffering and I can’t forgive that.
I’m sorry.
