Finally, Final Time
This is the final unit and thankfully, the semester is finally coming to a wrap. I am currently working on my final assignment which is compiling all my essays along with new information, research, and surveys which will result in a final product of a complete ethnographic essay. I cannot lie, this was truly a trying and tiring experience, but I learned a lot in regards to literacy, ethnographic essays, research, surveys, ethics, NOT PROCRASTINATING, and so much more. I have struggled here and there, but with the Lord's help I managed to make it quite alright and with a satisfying grade so far! I hope everyone that is in my class and those who make be elsewhere continuing to finish up their final ethnographic essays are doing a swell job and I have enjoyed this semester with those of you I have communicated with. I wish you all a blessed semester and summer!

Insider on my fandom choice : The Dallas Cowboys
I was raised in a typical, southern, football-watching family. I have grown up watching Sunday night football and even more so, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys whenever they are playing. I had decided it would probably be a good idea for me to pick this fandom because it would shock all the men in my family when I chime in on their discussions and because I haven't ever taken a real interest in football even though I have watched it since I was a kid. After this semester, I can finally say that in the upcoming season I am definitely going to be all in! I have learned A LOT about the Dallas Cowboys as a team and I am pretty excited to join them on their journey. With lots of new changes this season, reading up on some history, and keeping up with the latest, I am thrilled that I actually understand what is going on and can now chime in on the guys' discussion of football. Bring on Sunday night football!

Progress Blog Post
Literacy and discourse communities go together just about like biscuits and gravy . Each one of the discourse communities have their own specialized way of using literacy through sounds, pictures, written text, language, posters, music, and much more. A cool thing I have noticed is that literacy does not really have a distinct and accurate definition that covers its entirety. But, with each different discourse community, literacy can mean a totally different thing to one person or group of people than what it means to another. I have also concluded that we are unable to have a generalized definition of literacy due to its broad and diverse meanings throughout other cultures and discourse communities. Each culture has their own independent laws and ways that they live by, both public and private. This is what contributes to why we are unable to have a specific definition of literacy. How cool is that? An eight letter word with an endless definition!

Spring Semester
We did it! We have finally made it to the end of the semester. Not only did we make it to the end, but we made it successfully! The Lord has been faithful in helping me throughout school this semester and I am pretty content with how it went! I have learned quite a bit in this class regarding literacy, fandoms, discourse communities, and all the work and research that goes into an ethnographic essay. I do hope everyone had a wonderful semester and are entering the next with even more knowledge than before!
God Bless and have a happy summer!

I decided to reblog this post as an artifact because within my fandom and others as well, it’s a super, hot topic. With so many fans coming together from not only my fandom, but others too, to talk about this topic and show either their support or disappointment adds additional elements of literacy. Within the caption of the post, credits are given to the designer of the illustration which adds to my collection of fan art and again, there is another form of literacy! The photograph portrays the athlete whom the topic is over and without words, fans can identify who the discussion is over. The athlete portrayed can be identified by fans because of the close up of his face, which is well known and because of his jersey number.
DOWN GOES ROMO! Wait, that’s for when he’s hurt. But not anymore! Tony Romo, expected to be released by the #dallascowboys on Tuesday (we’ve heard that before) is taking his talents to the broadcast booth on CBS. Good thing the #Cowboys have Prescott, right? This is bad news for the #Texans and #Broncos, both of whom were expected to have interest when #romo hit the market. What will these teams do now? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! I decided to use this post as an artifact because it portrays the bond between two players, their journey together, and a farewell letter from one athlete to his retiring quarterback. One form of literacy that can be identified by analyzing the text and picture is the amount of reaction that it has gotten from fan world wide. Also, within this post is fan art that depicts the two athletes, which can again be identified by fans due to the fan art (shows jersey numbers) and by the text which reveals the players’ names. Lastly, this post has been shared from Instagram to Tumblr, therefore more fans are able to see, comment, like, and share the post, which helps on my study of literacy!
Wow. This is incredible ❤ #ThankYouTony #dallascowboys #cowboysnation #jasonwitten

I decided to reblog this picture and its text in the comments box because this is a good representation of a fan that is interested in the Dallas Cowboys, the Cowboy players, and Dallas Cowboys history. Not only that, but the author of the post revealed some of their feelings and gratitude toward this specific player that is portrayed in the illustration. Even with minimum words in the description box, other fans can identify who the athlete in the illustration is because of the number on his jersey. This is also a great portrayal of literacy within my fandom because the author of the post created a fan art that sparked likes from others within the Dallas Cowboys fandom.
Growing up in Texas, Tony Romo was always a big deal. Thank you for what you’ve done for the Cowboys.

Unit Four
Wow, I am exhausted. Our final unit is so close and it’s almost sweet summertime!! Before starting this course, I would not have ever thought twice about literacy or what it means, but after learning so much within these four units... it has definitely opened my mind up!

I used this post as an artifact for my field notes because it shows several different forms of literacy as well. An image is shown that some fans can identify without looking at the name in the description box. Then, if you click on the first link, you are directed to a fan discussion board where different literate practices take place such as communicating through images, text, and video. Another example of literacy within this fandom is if you are to click the link that contains the video over the athlete depicted in the original image I reblogged, the first thing to pop up is “The Swamp Thing,” which is a nickname given to this Dallas Cowboy athlete by teammates.

#Artifact1 #dallascowboys I chose to reblog this image because it shows several literate communications within my fandom. First, there is a line that catches the reader’s attention, but that is also a phrase used within the sports realm. Secondly, the image depicts Stephen Jones, Cowboys Chief Operating Officer/Executive Vice President, at a press conference delivering a statement. Third, when you click the link it sends you directly to a fans’ news page on the National Football League website and at the bottom of the article, there is a discussion board designated for fans. Finally, this field note is a good find because now I can connect and read fan posts from another website other than the ones I have chosen.

Unit Two
In Unit Two, we are discussing our research proposals for the fandoms we chose in class. I decided to choose the Dallas Cowboys because I have always grown up watching them, but I have never taken a serious interest in the team, the stats, the fan base, or anything else. Therefore, I am hoping to not only enjoy being among the thrill, but also learn from other fans about my beloved team.

Unit One
Little did I know, there is a lot more to literacy than the average person would think. It’s quite interesting to see how this class makes you expand your mind to go beyond vague definitions. I have already learned so much about literacy and literacy events. As we wrap up unit one, I am interested to see where unit two takes us.
