I'm Savanah. I am in love with the Darkest Powers trilogy. Chlerek (Chloe + Derek) is my true OTP. Kelley Armstrong is my queen. If you have any requests for me, don't be afraid to ask! I don't bite! (And from what I hear that's a good thing). ;)
Don't wanna be here? Send us removal request.
Note
Straight up I have read these books probably 36 times since they came out. And I may or may not be rewriting the entire series plus more in fanfic I’ll post on ao3 if you’re ever interested. -k
Ummmm, yes?!?! Definitely send me the fanfic name whenever you post so that I (and other dormant, but still obsessed DP fans) can read it!

Coming back from the dead to say that CHLOE AND DEREK APPEAR IN ONE OF KELLEY ARMSTRONG’S NEW OTHERWORLD NOVELS!!!
To recap... besides a few references to the group in Kelley’s Otherworld stories, the last we saw of the Darkest Powers gang was in Atoning. The novella came out in 2015, but was only set a year after the DP series left off. (Chloe was 16, Derek was 17.) In the last book of the Darkness Rising series, the two groups merged and, tired of being hunted down and on the run, decided to negotiate with one of the Cabals - the Nasts. They live under their jurisdiction, in a hidden camp in Ontario. The kids receive their protection and even get to have their families with them, but there’s an unspoken expectation that they will grow up to work for the Cabal. Atoning checks in on the gang a year into them living there. Rae makes an appearance and eventually joins the group, too. The kids are not totally free, and don’t fully trust everyone around them, but are ultimately comfortable with their circumstances.
Flash-forward to now...
Kelley has two books that are written from the POV of Elena and Clay’s children, Kate and Logan Danvers. (Wolf’s Bane and Wolf’s Curse) Wolf’s Curse - that’s the one where Chloe and Derek show up. Kate and Logan are teenagers, which means Chloe and Derek are much older now. I thought they’d be 25-ish, but the dialogue implies that they are still in college, possibly their final year... so 22, maybe? I haven’t read much in the Otherworld series so I’m unsure how that timeline correlates with the Darkest Powers one.
ANYWAY I’ll try not to be too spoilerish, but Chloe and Derek were supposed to be advisors at this teen supernatural camp, but when they show up, things have gone horribly wrong. (Of course.) They talk with Kate about their circumstances (side-note: the Edison Group kids are like legends to Kate). I don’t want to give much away, but Chloe and Derek are on their own now (well, they do reference teaming up with Maya and Daniel). They independently investigate supernatural happenings, which is why they showed up to the camp. (Supernatural teens being monitored in one place?! Oof, brings back memories.) They make reference to the other Project Genesis and Project Phoenix kids, but ultimately we don’t know what happened to the majority of them. (We do hear about Simon and Tori! And Liz is still with Chloe!) But... when Chloe and Derek are asked about them, they seem very despondent. In fact, they make reference to there being a fall-out with some of the group joining darker, antagonistic organizations... and maybe some of them have DIED?! WHAT?!
I definitely recommend checking out Wolf’s Curse if you want an update on Chloe and Derek. Don’t expect to know too much, but they do feature a good amount, considering they’re just cameo-ing in someone else’s story. I actually really loved their characterization here. They seemed sad and wistful - but I think that’s a good change. As teens they got comfortable with their situation and how they fit into their little group. Well, that doesn’t exist anymore. We’ve been wondering what it would be like when they broke into the adult world... well, this is it. Or at least an introduction to it. Like I said, there are hints towards complicated and hugely consequential things that happened... and I sorely hope Kelley decides to fill in that gap and give us another story directly from Chloe and Derek. For now, it was just so lovely to see them again.

[the darkest powers series] by kelley armstrong
I am literally obsessed with this series again. I read it a long time ago and I couldn’t resist making an edit or an aesthetic or whatever haha. I swear once I’m out in the filmmaking field, I’m gonna buy whatever rights I need to make this series a TV show. Also, I know Simon is half Korean, but I really wanted to cast him as Jimin ❤ I think I remember Simon being described as a blonde because his mother was Swedish or something and I immediately thought of blonde Jimin.
#darkest powers#this is so awesome#i'm so glad to see people making art for this series even after all these years

The Darkest Powers by Kelley Armstrong
“Mommy forgot to warn the new babysitter about the basement. Chloe teetered on the top step, chubby hands reaching up to clutch both railings, her arms shaking so much she could barely hang on. Her legs shook, too, the Scooby Doo heads on her slippers bobbing. Even her breath shook, puffing like she´d been running.”

FAKE DARKEST POWERS TV SERIES - CHLOE SAUNDERS
“I suppose it could be cool, playing a character who can raise the dead, but it’s just, you know, not really me. A little too dark. Too emo, you know? I’d rather play a magician.”

I remember when I first got my copy of The Reckoning in the mail. The past few months of waiting were agonizing, made semi-bearable only by the sneak-peek chapters Kelley would post twice a month. I had never been so anxious and excited to read a book. (And in the six years since, still nothing has beat it!) I had preordered online and it took a few days after the release for it to get here. I think those few days in-between were the worst. Just knowing that the book was out and I couldn’t read it.... gahhhh! But I finally got my copy on Friday, just in time for the weekend, and I devoured it. I tried to make it last because I knew it was the final book, but yeah, I don’t think I made it more than two days. I remember being shocked at all of the plot twists, squealing over all of the Chloe and Derek moments, just being totally in love with this world Kelley had created. It was a very special reading experience for me, one I doubt will ever be topped! Thank you, thank you, thank you @kelleyarmstrong!
