From 5th grade to 11 grade Pops walked 3 miles to school, along the way the passed thru other villages and kids would join them till they reach the school in Raychoty.
Pops said when he was in high school he went porcupine hunting, as well as for rabbits. He said village folks would eat porcupines, rabbits and pigs. Pop ate a lot of pork cuz he liked it but stopped cuz he vomited from eating to much. After that incident he stopped eating meat till he went to college and started eating meat again. In high school Pops only owned two shirts.
Pops also told me there use to be a lot of wild life in the fields surrounding the village like foxes & bears. The bears ate the crops, particularly the peanuts. When he was a child the fields were always green full of crops, they grew three crops at a time then, cause they had so much rain. Now the village is drought ridden and has been for most of my life.
Grandpa gave Pops a bicycle when he got into jr. college in Cuddapah near the train station. It was Hercules brand british manufactured, my dad rode and traveled w/ it till he came to America.
He strapped it to the bus to Tirupati.
What I learned on this talk:
- my girl cousin was "given" to a village
one of the villages is real "rowdy" lots of killings murders missing peoples cuz of family feuds then chuckles / i think, rowdy probably misleading adjective maybe dangerous and violent, scary even ?
V: what time did you wake up, to go to school.
P: oh i don't know we didn't have clocks or watches and all those things.
V: How'd you tell time ?
P: We used the sun to know when to go and come.
V: That explains why you wake up 5:30 am daily.
