I'm Melissa a.k.a 金旼均. Every day in 2017 I did something or learned something in Chinese. I did the same thing in Korean on my other blog @korean-365. My current langblr is @language-365 and my main blog is @celestial-apathy

It’s the end of the year which means I’ve made it through the entire year of studying! I took a quick look back at the first post I made when I talked about the level I was at and what my plans were for the year. I’m going to be completely honest and say I did not progress as I had hoped I would nor did I really work on any of what I had planned to. I was ready to give up studying Chinese back in April and so I think that was around the time I decided to switch my priority language to Korean and put Chinese on the back burner. That’s not to say I didn’t do anything in this year of studying because I did finish the HSK2 course on memrise as well as completely reading through Modern Mandarin Chinese Grammar and finishing up the course I was in (and the textbook we used, Integrated Chinese level 1 part 2). Even though I didn’t really progress as much as I would have liked, I think just the fact that I stuck with it through to the end is something to be proud of :)
That being said, I’m not planning on returning to this blog in the new year, but rather, I’ve decided to start using my general language blog language-365 for any updates throughout the year. I’m also planning to take a break from Chinese for now. I definitely don’t think it’ll be for good, I just need a break and would like to focus more on Korean (and would also like to maybe go back to ASL). I don’t really have anything concrete planned right now, but if you’re interested in following up, it’ll be on that blog :)
Anyways, Happy new years everyone, and good luck on any study goals you have for 2018!

Hi Melissa! So I am planning to study Korean and Mandarin everyday for the next year as well (I am already taking Korean and Mandarin classes, but I plan to study more on my own to achieve fluency faster)... Do you have any tips for me? Thanks!
Hi! That’s so cool :D I think my top two tips would be to have a journal/blog/something similar to keep track of what you’re doing and what you want to do. It’s definitely helped me this year ^^; My other tip would be to have something that you can easily do every day like flashcards or something for when you get busy or are having a tough time. Remember that review is very helpful for keeping the language fresh in you mind so even if that’s all you do, it’s still progress :) Don’t stress if you don’t always do equal amounts of studying in both languages, you can always change it up later! Find what works best for you and good luck studying :]
