I loathe this idea some fandoms have that a character having been abused means they're not responsible for their despicable actions and if you dare dislike them because of those despicable actions, you're an awful person for disliking an abused person.

For instance, Azula from ATLA, Damian from Batman and Daenerys from GOT/ASOIAF all get their myriad crimes excused with 'they're an abused child!'. Being abused does not excuse attempted murder (Azula), abusing others (Damian) and being a pyromaniacal tyrant (Daenerys).

Especially when there are other abused characters who don't do awful things, like Zuko from ATLA, Tim, Cass and Steph from Batman and Sansa and Sam from GOT/ASOIAF. They were also abused, but all are good people.

Your favourites being abused does not excuse their awful behaviour, does not mean they shouldn't face some kind of consequences/punishment for their crimes and does not mean people cannot dislike or even hate them.
