the problem with the current wave of discord phishing scams is that I don't think you can blame people for clicking links without checking where they go. internet safety isn't really taught in schools anymore, sure, but there is literal research being done on how the omnipresence of social media has eroded people's ability to parse what we would otherwise identify as untrustworthy behaviour. it's blaming a structural problem on individuals
if you wanna hear someone explain this effect better than I can, check out this video essay that goes into the problem in more detail

Divided geographically because that's what I'm interested in - forgive the partitioning, this allows for only so many options! I'd also be interested if you could drop your location and where you were taught (school, scouts, etc.) in the comments.
"Basic snake safety" refers to basic first aid for snake bites, how to ID your area's venomous snakes, and how to avoid snake bites (don't pick up wild snakes, don't stick your hands in places you can't see, etc.).

I made this blog just like 2-3 months ago, signing up *by email*, and yes it did require me to follow tags and users before it let me reach the dashboard. Now, this is an alt blog for personal reasons (dw about it) so I already knew tumblr stuff, I got through the following tags and people thing as fast as possible so I could put an avatar and description on my blog, but people who are totally new to the platform might not.
fun fact!! it turns out that now when u make a new blog, tumblr forces you to follow 3-4 people before you can change your icon or modify your blog in any way!! this, of course, means that, yes, some of the "potential bots" many of us have been automatically blocking could have possibly been genuine new users who were only just seconds in to having an account!!! tumblr is literally screwing new users over!!!!

If Dream Daddy had come out post-pandemic it would’ve gotten a melodramatic Netflix adaptation.

DASHBOARD UNFUCKER V1.0
as 90% of desktop users have probably found out, today @staff released an update that for some insane reason COMPLETELY remodels the dashboard to replicate twitter's. this is of course in the wake of numerous other thoroughly hated changes and a continued refusal to fix any of the site's actual problems, half of which stem directly from site management.
HOWEVER, thanks to the power of jQuery, i was able to throw together a userscript that remodels the dashboard back to its original look almost perfectly.
here is my dashboard right now, with the script active:
and here is the old dashboard in separate tab container that hasn't received the update:
it's hardly perfect; i had trouble making it force reload to the fixed layout when switching between other pages and the dashboard, and it currently only fixes just the dashboard. it's also completely untested on browsers other than firefox, and chances are it looks a bit screwy on ultrawide monitors. but for now at least, it's a good fix.
the unfucker is a tampermonkey userscript. all you have to do to use it is install the tampermonkey extension, hit "create new script", and replace the default code on the page with the script (link here) and save it.

reblog this and put in the tags something you watched that terrified you as a child. i was so scared of the hot sauce in spongebob that i refused to be in the room when it was on

In a moment of peak adhd word association, I said something to my dad a few hours ago about rats honking when you throw them.
It delighted him so much that he added it to his worldview and has already made a couple of jokes about it.
