The Preface
“Because of the increasing rates of obesity, unhealthy eating habits and physical inactivity, we may see the first generation that will be less healthy and have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.”
~ “Overweight in Children”
Sadly, the quote has been increasingly relevant. There are many different effects obesity has on the population; however, there is one segment of society which is pretty much unvoluntarily affected by the outrageous development of obesity - the children.
Nowadays, over one third of the United States’s population is obese. Two thirds are either obese or overweight, while Europe and Australia are quickly catching up:
There are many questions emerging, but the scope of the blog will be mainly limited to one: What is the effect of media and how it is and can be used in order to change, properly handle and prevent the situation? As children’s time spent with media is highly dependent on their parents’ approval, joint point of this blog is to examine how parents, media and obesity correlate.
As will be further asserted, media (being the primary source of entertainment) has been certainly one of the causes of the pitiful situation our society is at. However, it is important to emphasize that the influence can be used in order to do the exact opposite as well.

Causes of Childhood Obesity & Prevention Tips
Courtesy: Sehat.com
The Effects of Obesity:
Overweight children, as compared to children with a healthy weight, are more likely to develop many health problems such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure, which are associated with heart disease in adults. Type 2 diabetes, previously considered an adult disease, has increased dramatically in overweight children and adolescents. Obese kids also may be prone to low self-esteem that stems from being teased, bullied, or rejected by peers.
Lets talk about some charateristics of our modern lifestyle that contributes most to the problem of childhood obesity:
Advances in technology designed to make life easier and more entertaining.
Contemporary leisure activities such as playing computer games and watching TV.
Exposure to increasing amounts of marketing for snack and fast foods.
High density living with fewer parks and play areas for kids.
Poor lifestyle habits being passed on from one generation to the next.
Unprecedented access to junk and fast food that is high in calories and fat.
Preventing Childhood Obesity - Tips for parents:
Obese children need a thorough medical evaluation by a pediatrician to consider the possibility of a physical cause. In the absence of a physical disorder, the only way to lose weight is to reduce the number of calories being eaten and to increase the child’s or adolescent’s level of physical activity.
Discourage eating meals or snacks while watching TV. Eating in front of the TV may make it difficult to pay attention to feelings of fullness and may lead to overeating.
Emphasize healthy eating, keep fatty and sugary snacks to a minimum and keep fruits, vegetables and low-fat snacks available.
Increase physical activity, perhaps by taking a few brisk walks with your child each week.
Let your child know he or she is loved and appreciated whatever his or her weight. An overweight child probably knows better than anyone else that he or she has a weight problem. Overweight children need support, acceptance, and encouragement from their parents.
Be a good role model for your child. If your child sees you enjoying healthy foods and physical activity, he or she is more likely to do the same now and rest of his or her life.
Phase out soft drinks and other flavored, sweetened beverages. Keep fresh fruits and vegetables available as snacks (nuts can be great snacks, too, as long as they’re consumed in small portions). Set some clear limits on recreational screen time - TV, videos, electronic games and Internet and encourage all kinds of physical activity. You’ll be glad you did.

Providing Coca-Cola with direct access to our children, and allowing them to seductively teach children that they can balance bad diets and sugar sweetened soda with exercise, is both horrifying and inane.
Dr. Yoni Freedhoff reacts to the news that Coca-Cola’s misleading anti-obesity campaign also targets kids.

My ideas on the prevention of childhood obesity:
The banning of fast food/soda/candy commercials on children’s networks like Nickelodeon, Disney, Cartoon Network (not Adult Swim), and during Saturday morning kids programs on network affiliate channels
The teaching that obesity is extremely unhealthy and will lead to later complications. Of course they will have to be sensitive to already overweight and obese children
Work with kids to create a guides for a healthy life style that they can take home and use. It would include healthy meal plans that are as good tasting as they are healthy
Don’t shove it down their throats. Teach it in moderation so that they don’t dread having to learn about it
Have them start young and by that I mean kindergarten so they grow up with an understanding of what’s healthy.

Genetically Modified Food & Childhood Obesity
“We have examined a couple of the angles before. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has an unusual effect on lab rats, causing them to get fatter, per calorie consumed, than the rats fed on traditionally derived sugar. Also, pancreatic tumor cells seem to have a special fondness for HFCS. If the effect on humans is the same, this is not good news for either oncology patients or overweight and obese children. And — no surprise here — it just so happens that HFCS is made from genetically modified corn.”

This video is length however, it drives my point home that the government is aware of the harmful ingredients in their products. The continuous production of these foods have a proven increase in health risks.

Food - The Ultimate Secret Exposed full version Alex Jones addresses one of the darkest modes of power the globalists have used to control the population– food. The adulteration of the planet’s staple crops, genetically-altered species and intentionally-altered water, food and air all amount to a Eugenics operation to weaken the masses and achieve full spectrum domination.
People the world over, but especially in the United States are under chemical attack. Deadly and dangerous toxins ranging from Aspartame to Fluoride, GMO, Mercury-tainting, pesticides, cross-species chimeras, plastic compounds in chicken, high fructose corn syrup, cloned meat, rBGH and new aggressive GM species of salmon have all entered into our diets and environments– whether we want it or not.
Many of these substances knowingly cause or are linked with sterility, low birth weight, miscarriages, smaller or deformed offspring, as well as organ failure, cancer, brain tumors and Death itself, what you DON’T know about on your grocery shelves can hurt you. Further, Alex demonstrates that a pattern of buried studies, fraudulent statistics and a will reduce global population all point to the deliberate criminal poisoning of the food and water supply.
Suffer no fools and warn those you love about need to stop their food from being used as a Depopulation-weapon against us all. Please share this important video with everyone, so the truth about these substances can be known.

“Food marketing to children is widespread. The food and beverage industries spend more than $10 billion per year to market to children in the United States. One of the goals of marketing is branding to encourage children to recognize and differentiate particular products and logos. By 2 years of age, children may have beliefs about specific brands, and 2- to 6-year-olds can recognize familiar brand names, packaging, logos, and characters and associate them with products, especially if the brands use salient features such as bright colors, pictures, and cartoon characters. By middle childhood, most children can name multiple brands of child-oriented products. Even among very young children, awareness and recognition translate into product requests, begging and nagging for specific product names and brands” (Robinson, pp. 792).

“There is insufficient research on the direct effects of food advertising on children’s diet and diet-related health, particularly in non-experimental settings... Our results suggest that soft drink and fast food television advertising is associated with increased consumption of soft drinks and fastfood among elementary school children (Grade 5). Exposure to 100 incremental TV ads for sugar-sweetened carbonated soft drinks during 2002–2004 was associated with a 9.4% rise in children’s consumption of soft drinks in 2004. The same increase in exposure to fastfood advertising was associated with a 1.1% rise in children’s consumption of fast food... Exposure to advertising for calorie-dense nutrient-poor foods may increase overall consumption of unhealthy food categories” (Adreyeva, pp.1)
This article addresses the fact that no too much research and data has been done on the impact of childhood obesity however, there is direct correlation between exposure to advertisements from food companies to the increase of consumption of those products which in turn will impact their health.

Personal Testament
By the age of three, my nephew was able to identify a McDonald’s or Wendy’s when riding down the highway in the car, always requesting to stop for a happy meal. At such a young age these fast food companies had captured the attention of a very young child. Their happy meals provide quick food and always include a toy for children. I believe that this provides instant gratification for a child, receiving food they enjoy eating and getting a toy as well triggers positive emotions in a child which they psychologically associated these companies with a happy experience therefore wanting to go back.

Fast Food Focus on Children
It is no surprise that the obesity is a prominent issue within the United States. As a result, childhood obesity is now growing in direct correlation to the obesity epidemic. I believe the fast food industry uses their brand name and their economic power to mass produce and mass market their products with a strong focus on targeting children
