Thyméo found that in their battle, he saw quite a bit of himself in Ree. Ree's passion was unmistakeable as they battled- and they were certainly impressive! After taking a few well aimed strikes, Scizor fell to his knees and had no more strength to fight. Klefki took his place and made a surprise comeback against the Torracat, only for the next opponent to be a giant Togekiss.

Thyméo would know the effects of pokerus anywhere. Pokemon that survived gained incredible strength and often grew in size, and this Togekiss was no exception. She made surprisingly quick work of Klefki, and while Probopass put in his best effort, he, too, fell.

❝ ... What a magnificent spirit you have, ❞

❝ But, I am afraid our battle is coming to its end. ❞

Aegislash takes his place before his opponent, and Thyméo knows that Thibaud's soul craves the thrill of battle. He understood that there was something in him that also craved that thrill- because Thibaud was the person he had been long ago.

The media didn't call Thyméo the Sword of Kalos just because of his status as the grandmaster of the knights, but because Aegislash functioned as an extension of his will. Unwavering even in the face of primordial fear, Thyméo's strongest partner (his other self) managed to face Ree's five remaining pokemon-

And triumph.

Still, it had not been an easy battle, and through their soul bond Thyméo found himself aching and exhausted. It was all worth it, though. He approached Ree and held out his hand, a warm smile on his face.

❝ You have showed me something in this battle. You have a champion's spirit, ❞

❝ There are few trainers who can achieve what you have. Even if this time I have emerged from this battle as the victor, that may not be true in the future. As you grow, there may come a day where you will challenge and surpass me. I gave this battle everything I have- ❞

He'd truly thrown his soul into the fight, hadn't he.

❝ I hope there is something that you will take away from this battle, too. I think you will be a wonderful opponent for Satoshi- but for now, both our teams require well deserved rest. I am happy to walk with you to a pokemon center. ❞

“!!”

Sure, they’ve seen some of their mentors use moves like this — but not so quick off the bat. They know scizor is a bug and steel type, so Tommie’s typing and attacks should be extra effective, but just — it went through the flames.

that’s ….

okay, that’s kind of cool.

Tommie gets hit with the attack, and stumbles back. She hisses, fur standing up on end, and Ree steps back too — rebalancing themself. They whistle again, a different tune, and the Pokémon attacks.

Flame spin! And then, quickly, fire blast!

A fantastic start, Torracat certainly had the advantage on Scizor, but Thyméo's pokemon were much as their trainer was- seasoned warriors who knew their way around. Warriors who knew how to overcome seemingly impossible odds. The flamethrower comes straight at Scizor, and Thyméo gives a small nod.

Scizor has faced flames before. In fact, all of Thyméo's pokemon had endured a flame that had left a burn on their trainer's very soul. Malva had wounded him in a way that couldn't be so easily fixed.

Yes, Scizor was no longer afraid of fire, and he'd show it.

❝ Flame thrower- a brilliant opener, but it won't be that easy! ❞

Thyméo trusts Scizor to make the right moves- because he's trained his team well, and he knows that on the battlefield, there was a chance that he wouldn't be there to guide them. So he'd taught his team to command themselves, to assess a situation and the risks and benefits.

Without backing down, Scizor decides to cut through the flames with aerial ace-!

you can’t blame Ree for wanting to establish that they don’t want to be handled with kids gloves, can you?

But, huh. This guy really doesn’t seem like he’s going to be holding back.

Good.

“I’ll use my full team.” Best to take advantage of their full potential, after all. Ree thumbs at the apricorn ball in their hand, before tossing it out to reveal —

“Tommie!”

the Torracat bursts out of the light, landing easily on all four feet. Ree grins, rolling one shoulder until it cracks.

The battle begins, and Ree whistles, sharp and quick. The fire pokemon responds immediately — having been taught non verbal commands — with a flame thrower!

❝ That's the spirit! ❞

As expected, Ree accepted the challenge, but offered ... a rather strange condition. Thyméo had never been one to hold back, but he could understand why Ree had asked. This wasn't really a League battle, it was something off the records, and there was no one else watching. Nonetheless ...

❝ I am not one to hold back. It would be rather counterproductive for me to do that when I wish to test what you are made of. ❞

❝ I only have four pokemon on my person. You may use a full team of six if you wish. You may allow your pokemon to use whatever moves they know- i would not limit you to only four- but I shall do the same. We battle until one of us has no pokemon who can continue battle. ❞

Scizor emerges from his pokeball and takes his place in front of the knight grandmaster.

❝ Well then, en-garde! Show me the spirit of a champion! ❞

“Wh — of course I haven’t been to kalos. Do I look like a guy who can afford that kinda travel?”

Thinking about even going near kalos makes Ree feel all itchy inside. That’s where Malva is, and if they go there that would mean she’d probably find out and start pestering them for another interview, and that’s also where…

…

ugh!!! Not important!!! Ree smacks their cheeks a bit with their palms, trying to get refocused.

More importantly!!!

“I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that you know satoshi.” Everybody seems to know satoshi. Is this how Guzma feels when everyone knows Ree? “But yeah. He’s — he’s been hyping me up. For this.”

— the offer for a battle definitely comes as a surprise. Ree raises their brows, but the grin that follows probably tells the Duke everything he needs to know.

“I don’ need time to get ready,” Ree comments, hand going to an apricorn ball on their belt, “I’m ready now. I’ll battle you — as long as you promise not to hold back”

❝ I'll take it you have not yet traveled to Kalos, then? ❞ It was in Kalos that Thyméo was known best- not only for his position as a member of the elite four or for being the grandmaster of their knights, but for another title- Duke of Camphrier. While he wasn't too fond of politics, there was no denying that Thyméo held a fair amount of influence in the region with all of that. He simply chose not to use it for the wrong reasons. ❝ I am not telling you of my position to startle you, simply to explain why I know of your endeavors. ❞

So, that's who it is.

❝ Satoshi? He's certainly made great strides as well! ❞

❝ I have had the honor of training Satoshi in the ways of knighthood, although I think his Farfetch'd gained more from it- not to say that he didn't impress- that young man is destined for great things! ❞ Then, he laughs, a warm sound. ❝ I could offer you something similar- Will you honor me with a battle? I will give you ample time to prepare, since this is rather sudden, but I would like to see that spirit of yours in action. ❞

oh, he can definitely blame Ree for AC Fryer’s little quirks, ree is the one who taught her those—

… wait.

wait wait wait wait wait.

“Kalos elite??”

Does he mean like — the elite four? The kalosian elite four? What’s a guy like that doing in Alola?

— it’s summer, of course he’s probably here for vacation, or something. Don’t be stupid, ree.

“I mean …” they’re struggling to get back on subject. It’s a bit of a curve ball, admittedly!!! You know?? “Of course I’m ready! I’ve been working like crazy, I’ve been trainin’, I’m not scared of going toe to toe with satoshi again!”

He likes their determination. In some ways, he's reminded of his own youth- not that he thought of himself as old, but his days as an aspiring young knight were far behind him. He had already reached a level that most people could only dream of- as a trainer and as a soldier (he found great pride in his title as Grandmaster of the knights). Ree was aiming for that dream- of being among the top of the top.

Thyméo wondered if they realized how far they'd already come.

❝ That incident is in the past. I cannot fault your pokemon for being mischievous. ❞

❝ I did not come here to speak of that, though. As one of Kalos' elites, I am interested in that dream of yours. ❞ He's said this to others, to the trainers who have come back to face him after defeat. The ones who are spirited enough to keep fighting. Even if they end up defeated once more, each time he hopes is a learning experience for them.

❝ Do you feel prepared for the battles ahead? ❞

they remember this guy, kind of.

Some faces are just easier to remember. This guy has that kind of face. Ree watches him, wary as ever, as he introduces himself.

They're no stranger to random people knowing who they are. Some people who visit Alola come specifically for the battle tree, and a lot of those people recognize ree from their battling exploits.

“uhm. Hi.”

“Sorry about last time. But … yeah. I am. I mean — I’m not thinking of it. I’m gonna do it.”

Word traveled fast among league members. Not only that, there were few people in positions like Thyméo's who did not know of the PWT, of its champions. It came as no surprise, then, that he learned that @skullkxd was thinking of challenging Alola's league once more-

Since Thyméo had already come to Alola to visit, it seemed as good a time as any to find the young trainer and see just what sort of person they were.

Ree was... about what Thyméo had expected when he really took time to look at them. Last time he'd seen them, their Eevee had tried to swipe his wallet, and he'd been more focused on that than anything else.

Ree looked like someone with a good heart, someone who put their all into whatever they did- and someone who still had much to learn. Maybe ... just maybe ... no, it was best not to simply jump into a battle without warning. He could hardly call that fair, regardless of how strong Ree was.

He was well aware of the vast gap between the skill of members of a region's league and the greater majority of trainers.

❝ It is good to see you again, ❞ he begins, warm and welcoming. ❝ I heard that you were thinking of facing this region's strongest trainers once more. ❞

missed all the immortality talk yesterday but i can safely say thyméo just wants to live and die like any normal person. he's down to earth like that, never thinking he's more than what he is- and that's part of his charm. he is proud of the hard work he's done to get where he is. he won't ask for more than he can do with his human willpower.

thibaud is "immortal" through being a spirit linked to a sword. while he may finally pass on when thyméo dies, he may also linger and seek his body's next reincarnation and the cycle will continue ...

Alola is a lovely place, he's decided. Warm and welcoming, and full of culture that is entirely unfamiliar to the Sword of Kalos. Full of history that he'd love to learn about, and new pokemon that he could meet.

Something about Alola made Thyméo feel like a carefree kid again.

"Alola! It's so good to meet you! The name's Hau, Kahuna of Melemele island! I, uh, had a question for you, if that's okay!" comes @tapuhauko's voice from nearby- a welcome sound, because Thyméo had found himself wandering the island rather aimlessly.

He'd call it sightseeing to save his pride.

❝ Ah, Kahuna Hau, alola to you as well! ❞ At least he'd picked up that one, the friendly greeting.

❝ I am Thyméo, Kalos' Sword and the Steel type master of our elites. ❞ With this, he gives a small bow- and makes note to just leave out the rest of his titles. Those were the ones that most trainers found important, after all. ❝ You may ask me whatever you wish- as I understand it, your position as Kahuna makes you the leader of this island, and it would be rather rude to turn down your request. ❞

hey remember when satoshi and goh went to train with thyméo and he had them wear full armor and thats like what anywhere from 30-50 lbs and then he made them swordfight him (with training swords) and then he sorta flung them across the room just with the training sword

idk what i think about that tactic but at least it helped forge stronger bonds ???

hM thyméo definitely has more than just his league team for pokemon bc he i guess only gets 4 pokemon for the league (unknown reasons?) anyway about that league team...

obviously aegislash will always be his ace, that sword is thibaud's sword and is also the same energy as the millennium ring (thibaud is dark bakura), aegislash has a fun little thing outside of battle where if he's in shield form, thymeo's soul is in there, if he's in blade form thibaud's soul is in there ... something something yeah thibaud can pull the grand theft me on thyméo ... yikes, but he does a pretty good thyméo impression and this has been an issue since thyméo was a kid (he picked up that sword as a honedge when he was 10 and things spiraled from there). obviously the swap doesn't happen in league battles, that's just thibaud in there and thibaud loves fighting

klefki is both a battle pokemon and also absolutely keeps track of various keys thyméo has bc he has 2 houses of his own, he has a key to his parents' house, the entire castle where he trains other knights and sometimes just does fun things for standard trainers (satoshi + goh) i dont care what the wiki says klefki is a girl and she knows thyméo will lose a key if someone doesn't help him

probopass is a league battle pokemon that likes to live at the castle otherwise, so usually it isn't on hand in day to day situations.

scizor is a fairly solid staple of the team, and has known thyméo for almost as long as aegislash has. he's usually a pretty chill pokemon outside of battles.
