My First ‘Luxury Watch’ Purchase

As a keen watch collector for around 5 years, I had amassed a collection of 5 watches from brand such as Rolex to Bell & Ross. The obsession started at a young age watching the likes of Sean Connery in Goldfinger take a glimpse of his Rolex Submariner using his Dunhill lighter and later watching Pierce Brosnan using the Omega Seamaster helium escape valve as a laser in Goldeneye. After years of trawling eBay for my first ‘luxury’ watch, a time came in my life where I could finally afford a ‘luxury’ watch. I ignored the likes of Omega, Rolex and Breitling and went for a … Bell & Ross. This begged one question amongst my friends and family.. why?

The Bell & Ross, BR03-92 Golden Heritage to be precise, was one that had caught my attention while in my final year in university, and at a modest price tag of £2,700 it was a no brainer. After gaining a place on a well respected graduate programme and having a successful first 3 months, I was strolling through the Grosvenor Shopping Centre in Chester and had an overwhelming excitement in my stomach as I approached the window of Chrisholm Hunters. With no intention of purchasing the watch on that particular Sunday, I still decided to go inside and try it on… From that moment onwards, the addiction for watches began…

The lid was lifted and there it was glistening in the light of the halogen bulb above me. The moment came of finally trying it on, it was placed on my wrist and adjusted accordingly. After 30 seconds of staring at it, the words uttered out of my mouth..’I’ll take it’. A very light wallet and unhappy ex girlfriend later, I was finally the proud owner of my first luxury watch.��
