NASB2 Tournament Hosting Guide draft 1.
The NASB2 Tournament Set Up Handbook
For online & Offline events by Cherry
Contact me for more information via email @ Cherrynasb@proton. me , Twitter @ Cherrynasb, or Discord @ Chufuga.
This is not a guide on how to use challonge, start.gg or other bracket sites. Simply the best way for any organizers to host online or offline nasb2.
Introduction
As all of you reading this likely know, NASB2 is a pain in the ass to set up events for. Between controller issues offline, to mystery ping bugs & Infinite loading screens online, nowhere is safe. My goal with this is to make creating a proper NASB2 event easier to navigate by providing the cheapest accessible hardware, answers to common troubleshooting questions, and solutions that are simple & realistic for Tournament Organizers of ANY size to scale up to any size event. The solutions I offer can work for a 7 person local, and can work for even a super major as they have been tested to work at events such as Heatwave 6, Frosty Faustings 2024, & Combo Breaker 2024 as well as many others.

Competitive Rulesets
Stagelists
“The universal singles NASB2 stagelist & ruleset is 4 Stocks, 8 Minute timers, No Items, Shadow Skins are banned from play.”
NASB2 is fortunate to have a group of tournament organizers work directly with beta testers on helping to select the competitive stage list, stock count, and timer for competition. These stages have their own tab in the game called the “ranked stage list” the stage list can be found on the stage select screen by tabbing to the most to the right list.
The stagelist in comp nasb2 is currently the following stages. Irken Armada Invasion, JellyFish Fields, Food Dream, Technodrome Takedown, Rooftop Rumble, Periahs Keep, Miracle City Volcano, Harmonic Convergence, & Tremorton Joyride.
The starter stages or Game 1 stages are Irken, Jelly, Food Dream, Techno, and Rooftop. The Counter Pick or Game 2 onward stages are Pariahs, Volcano, Harmonic, and Joyride.
This means all tournaments online or offline in any region are expected to run the exact same ruleset for 1v1s. This includes counter pick bans, stock count, and other information. Game 1 ban order is Higher Seeded player bans first followed by the second player banning 2 stages. Then the 1st player bans 1 more stage leaving one as the first selected stage. After game 1 the winner has to ban stages. Depending on if the round is best of 3 or 5 determines the amount of bans a winner may have. In a best of 3 (first to 2 wins) the winner bans 3 stages. If the ruleset is best of 5 (first to 3 wins) the round winner bans 2 stages. Both versions also use Standard DSR. This prevents players from counter picking to any stage on which they have previously won a game throughout a set.
The universal NASB2 stagelist & ruleset is 4 Stocks, 8 Minute timers, No Items, Shadow Skins are banned from play.
Shadow Skins are banned
These skins are banned especially online due to the effects on the skins causing difficulty for players to have a clear visual on things such as attack animations or other options. If a player is a random main, and happens to be given a shadow skin from selecting random, both players must restart the character choice with the non shadow skin selected. Random mains will be instructed to instead use a virtual die with 29 sides (28 until Iroh is released) to select their character. If an opponent would rather be a gentleman to allow Shadow Skins this is allowed as long as both competitors agree to the use of the skins.
This situation should realistically only happen online, or at a local level tournament if a save data being used has these shadow skins unlocked. These skins are unlocked via the story mode and otherwise are unable to be played on.
Items & Supers
No items are allowed in competitive play. These should be set to off. NASB2 Allows the use of supers in competitive play, they are balanced and tuned to be used fairly in tournament play.
In Game Setup
General Game Setup
NASB2 has some settings by default you’ll be required to change. These are important to do so that matches can run smoothly with as little hiccups or interruptions as possible. All of these settings can be accessed from the main menu by pressing the start/settings button on your controller (or enter on a keyboard).
Head to the first setting tab named General, and make sure the in game volume are all at 100. This should be done for both Online and Offline events. Setting these volume bars to different levels may cause some very distracting audio on certain legal stages. If volume is too loud, feel free to adjust on PC using the Windows Volume Mixer. But these settings MUST stay in game at 100 at all times currently.
At the bottom of this general tab, turn off the “Camera shake” feature. This mode being left on is very distracting and can also be nauseating for some players and spectators.
Display in Game Setup
Next scroll one option down in the settings tab and make sure the default resolution is the same as your display, “vertical sync” is off, and the max frame rate is either “60 FPS”, or “120 fps”. Whichever the PCs you own can run more reliably. Then make sure “anti-aliasing” is off, and the quality settings are set to “low”.
Make sure the resolution is also the same as the monitor. If you are experiencing performance issues you can run the game at 1280x720 for better performance.
Online Set Up
Offline Setup
Controller setup offline is the most complicated aspect of NASB2. PS5 controllers and Gamecube Controllers when paired offline tend to have small issues with double inputting, the game tabbing out and minimizing when a PS5 is plugged in etc. While most seasoned players are aware of how to avoid these, I’ve worked on making the process more streamlined. On steam go to NASB2 and go to properties, then press “controller”.
From here make sure your steam shows the same settings as this. This makes sure that PS5 doesn’t cause any conflicts.
Next to ensure no issues with GameCube Controllers and keep matches on schedule, you’ll need to download Delfinovin. Its a GCC software that has games detect the controllers as Xinput. Install the application. Then open it. It will take you through some extra installations and then open. From here you’re done! Enjoy a far less stressful experience for both your Tournament Organizers & your players!
Equipment for Offline Play
One of the more difficult aspects is having cheap but powerful equipment for events. I recommend these mini-PCs. They were used at the Major Tournament Heatwave 6. They cost about $250-$300 each, are small and portable AND are capable of running nasb2 on low settings very well. They are a tried in the field solution, are cheaper to obtain than Steam Decks, and do more for cheaper than other portable solutions. You can also upgrade them to be more powerful for the price of a steam deck at $500 and they are very much worth it and something I personally will be investing into.
Online Lobbies
For Online Lobbies you can set it to any size. But make sure to set the visibility to Private. The game is very active and its smart to not allow anyone in your lobbies without permission.
When in a lobby in order to watch a match you must be in the spectators section at any point before the match starts. You can not join a match in progress. The easiest way to send invite codes to players is via lobby passwords
Multiple players are allowed to spectate at once but it's easier to just stream a discord view of the matches for your commentary squad.
Common Online Lobby Bugs
A major issue that occurs is a bug mainly known as “Ping Bug”. This is extremely common for some competitors who use AT&T internet in the United States. At the beginning of a match right after the screen says 3…2…1 Go! A players ping will spike rapidly from a normal amount to an unstable 200+ amount. Players are currently instructed to simply just SD and begin the match again until a successful launch of the game occurs.
During these attempts you may also run into a bug called “The Infinite Loading Screen Bug” this evil duo tend to happen in combos. If a match has the ping bug, after a game finish you may get stuck on an infinite black loading screen. The solution to this is to unfortunately have all players and in-game spectators close their game, make a new lobby, and hope it doesn't happen again. Developers are working on troubleshooting this bug, but it is incredibly hard to figure out how to cause the bug to occur in order for it to be troubleshooted.
In Game Rulesets
When you enter an online lobby, or head to a stage/character select screen, tapping the swap ruleset button may swap to a different ruleset than the intended one. This is not a bug, as it is intentional but it often happens by accident. (The swap button is the same as the one displayed where it says “Hold” in the top right. On controllers it is usually the top face button. Think Y for Xbox, X for switch, and Triangle for PS5. On PC its default is X key.)
If you are only intending on running one rule type its best to delete unwanted extra rules so no accidental swaps occur. (I’ve found this to be VERY helpful at the local level.) To delete a ruleset just go to the ruleset page in settings by pressing start or if you are on the character select/stage select hold the reset button. When you reach the ruleset page select the ruleset you’d like to remove, and press “delete ruleset”.
Other Rulesets
Doubles
A group of TOs and Beta testers are working on a doubles ruleset revamp. But for now, its still a work in progress. It will be added here in the future. But for now it uses the same ruleset as 1v1s but with team attack and share stock enabled.
Squad Battles
Same rule set as universal ruleset 1v1s with the additional rules of:
 No duplicate characters
3 stocks instead of 4
Random is allowed for multiple picks
Resources
Overlays
When running a stream, if you’d like an easy to use, pretty, and customizable scoreboard overlay I recommend  Tournament Stream Helper On GitHub.
It also allows you to download assets like stock icons, stages, and character renders. This tool is open source and assets are collected by community members!

Creative MultiVersus Combos: Featuring Bugs Bunny + Tom & Jerry
youtube
Been playing Multiversus pretty consistently for the past 2 weeks or so. So I figured I'd share some good moments I've saved so far! My favorite character in beta was Tom & Jerry but oddly I've been really liking Bugs Bunny A TON! Which is surprising imo. I enjoy being able to do anything so as long as I can do pretty much anything, I think I'll be having fun. Hope you all enjoy! I don't really do clip dumps too often, so if this is something you enjoy, make sure to let me know to post more often!

GOMLX defined Aang's future
youtube
There are many certainties in life, death, taxes, and most importantly getting hit by Aang’s charged Up Air. This last certainty couldn’t have been proven more than by Hockey at his recent run at Get On My Level 2024. Featuring top players from around the world, NASB2 @ GOMLX was absolutely staked. Despite how many great players there were, only one could walk away victorious, and that’s exactly what Hockey did.
TOP 8 - Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2 - GOML X (Aang Jimmy Spongebob Ember Garfield) NASB2 Tourney
Hockey stuck to what worked as per usual breezing through his first few opponents using his air bending master Aang the whole way through his bracket run. Defeating Ry-X, Spiral, and even Sundra 2-0. However this would only be the first Aang ditto hockey would play as he would go onto top 8 and immediately fight Pixie Gangstereo. Hockey who at one point was coached by Pixie, became the master defeating Pixe Gangstereo 2-0 by sticking to the same consistent simple yet effective game plan he had been using the entire tournament thus far. Hockey’s combo game all revolves around hitting Charged Up Air. Comboing at low percentages with Light Up Air or Up Throw as the starter, and at higher percentages going for UpThrow Up Special Slime Canceled Charge Up Air. Pixe, often resorted for some of the more optimal Aang starter combos one of his signatures being the double grounded Up Charge not working effectively, due Aang being so floaty he actually was able to di and escape the multiple multihits.
Hockey wouldn’t meet a true challenge until his Winners Final opponent Senpac. These two meet constantly in online weekly tournaments with a respectable 16 sets being played against each other. While Hockey led in sets won over Senpac, it was Senpac who had won 2 of the 3 most recent sets they had played. This set would mark the start of hockey deviating from his gameplan thus far of simple yet effective, as Hockey would start using options like Slime dash Up Special, and the effective “Neutral Skip” Technique. To do this you start by using Aangs Neutral special and then slime canceling into forward strong to have an unpunishable approach + damage option. This opening of different play ended up securing game 1 in what would be an otherwise challenging best of 5 set.
After two dominating games Senpeezy would show signs of life, using Jimmy’s best pet Goddard to help him keep ahead. The various uses of Goddard from using him as an explosive combo extender to having lazer shots snuff out aangs recovery options were just enough for Senpac to keep ever so slightly ahead of Hockey. Forcing a game 5 set that unfortunately ended with Hockey resetting back to the effective basics and just wiping the floor with senpac in game 5. This wouldn’t be the last time we saw the loveable Senpeezy, who made quick work of Revilo2112 with a 3-0 win proving he was the one who deserved to be fighting against Hockey in Grand Finals.
Once again Hockey would start by forcing Senpac into the spincycle that is Charge Up Air, and forcing Senpac down 0-1 into game 2. For Game 2 Senpac would choose to play on Food Dreams. This stage gave him a large enough space with tall enough blast zones to avoid for the most part what Aangs charge up airs intended to do to his stocks. Similar to Winners Finals, Senpac had to get creative with how he landed his own finishing moves using mechanics like slime dash and slime cancel to chip hockey into the blast zone. Finally with each on their last stocks, senpac mid aerial scramble, Senpac hit hockey with a trusty upair SC into light down air. This would tie up the set 1-1 and cause hockey to go to his fav counter pick stage, Pariahs Keep. This flat no platform stage normally is great for extending Aangs combo game thanks to the lack of platforms to interfere. This definitely was proven true once again because as soon as hockey took his first stock from senpac hi just didnt stop. With multiple Zero to death combos dragging senpac from the right to the left with charged up air into up special. In response we saw Senpac answer in game 4 with his own busted stage in Mericle City Valcano. Where Jimmy can thrive thanks to the large stage, triple platforms, and smaller side blaszones aiding in early Kills via Fair Fair Slime dash Fair. This forced a game 5 where Hockey went back to Pariahs Keep and Senpac had to once again fight the bald demon at his strongest. This final game displayed a fully awoken hockey. Finishing stock 1 of senpacs with a trusty neutral skip, only for Senpac to continue to fight and quickly answer with his own Strong charge air, forcing hockey to ONCE again finish a stock of hockeys with strong up airs. These two went back and forth nearly 0 to deathing each other twice before hockey put a stop to it via a smart neutral skip. Hockey followed this up with potentially one of the biggest war crimes ive seen. Comboing Charge up air 4 times into itself across the entirety of PK to finish off senpac and win game 5 last stock against Senpac.
Overall Hockey had alot to prove with this tournament, he was fighting to secure himself as the best Aang in the world which he did beating the likes of, Pixie Gangstereo, and Sundra, as well as win his first Offline NASB2 Major. There couldn’t have been a better time to do it too considering this was the first of two majors that would bookend this second season of competitive NASB2. Hockey also proved something else to the world that day. He provided proof that Aang is not a pacifist and instead is an evil war criminal. Oh how his ancestors would detest his actions. Roku offers his wisdom to Aang on the Giant Lion Turtle
So there you have it, another major finished for NASB2, what were your fav moments from GOMLX? Make sure to to let us know in the comments below what you enjoyed the most, and don’t forget to like and Subscribe to cherrynasb for more platform fighter content.

1.7 is THE perfect update for nasb2 AND HERE’S WHY
youtube
With the holiday season well behind us, NASB2 has seen multiple updates. We had 1.5 which added Mr.Krabs and brought the universal controller fixes offline, we had the 1.6 hotfix patch which fixed Grandma Gerties recovery and also brought forward some half way fixes to the way projectiles functioned but introduced a heap of issues and new “tech” with it. Finally, last Friday, fairplay labs pushed out the 1.7 update which might just be the best patch nasb2 has ever seen. Introducing a wave of new features like rotation mode, new items, new campaign power ups, and a long list of bug fixes and balance changes. 1.7 was capable of bringing all of this and so far NO huge bugs or exploits. (As far as I’ve seen)
What was fixed (there was a lot)
There was plenty of big things fixed with this update most notably the removal of the Flashing Mr. Krabs bug that I will NOT be showing on screen because it likely could cause seizures.
Fixed an issue where Projectiles and Items hitboxes would trade against character hitboxes where they were supposed to be destroyed instead.
Fixed an issue where Projectiles got stuck on platforms as they traveled through them.
They finally fixed the infinite victory screen bug, where the match would softlock if a player taunted with a certain timing during the “Finish!” screen.
Not only did this update fix some big issues, this update also added some pretty cool additions! (Grab footage)
New Game Mode – Rotation: 3 to 4 players can play in a King of the Hill 1v1 style of gameplay, where anytime a player is KO’d it goes to the waiting list, and the next player enters the fight. All seamless during the match. It can be played with Stocks or Timed variants.
New Stage: Added Clean, Double, and Triangle layouts for Food Dreams.
New Campaign power-up pack!
Ring of Rage and Crown of Fire: When both are obtained, all attacks ignore Block and Super Armor.
The Secret Formula and Krabby Patty Ingredients: When both are obtained it enables the chance for The Perfect Krabby Patty to appear.
The Perfect Krabby Patty: Ignores debuffs and a % of damage.
Jellyfish Jelly: Throw to spawn 3 jellyfish that try to shock your nearest opponent until they disappear.
Fenton Thermos: Throw the thermos and watch how ghosts appear to haunt your opponents.
Electrified Glove: Grab it to stun your opponents on your next hit.
Lawn Gnome: Throw the gnome and watch it follow you as it creates an electrical field in between you and him, electrifying opponents.
Ultra Snowzooka: Grab and shoot different sized snowballs depending on how long you hold the Light Attack button.
Finally there was a ton of changes to the overall cast. Including a ton of hidden changes not mentioned! Overall while there isn’t anything new bug wise this patch the balance changes are for sure head scratchers for plenty of the cast. Some characters were absolutely gutted like reptar who while was a top tier character had his overall damage on all his moves reduced slightly once again, and has had his Down Special nerfed to oblivion. Where as another Top Tier in the meta Aang, had his light up air buffed to combo into Strong Up Air. This buff to a character who was arguably top 2 at absolute worst easily has made him the strongest character in the game and we’ve already seen it in full display. Aang has been this good since launch and while he’s had small nerfs to his up special height and the ability to cancel out of it with air dodge, the character just has too strong of simple options like Sup Air that can single handedly deal tons of damage, combo into itself, and take stocks. This combined with their wide array of recovery options and triple jump make aang an extremely strong character and that hasn’t changed since launch.
Which leads into the main criticism of this patch. Which is just the balance choices. Yes reptar is strong and probably deserved the damage reduction nerf, but buffing an even stronger character (even if the change wasnt intended to do so) and not nerfing other extremely strong options like sup air gives off confusion signs in terms of what the teams balance changes are trying to do.
Other similar changes to characters includes Raphael with him getting nerfs to his neutral EX special Shuriken having a damage and shield damage decrease when generally he’s fallen out of the meta for a month or two now. Another mid tier whos been nerfed this patch unexpectedly was Ember. Who had her charged up air hit box size reduced which is arguably a change that should be directed at Aang. Both moves do the same thing yet Embers kills far later and now it is smaller than it was before.
I won’t be going over the full patch in this video but I felt it was important to highlight changes like this to address and question why things like this were decided on. I’m not opposed to most of the changes but I think its fair to ask why the same nerfs werent given to aang and why reptar was once again gutted seemingly out of the blue.
Granted the answer as to why is the extremely high use in majors with him still being the most played character in top 32s of events offline like Genesis.
But I digress. If you’d like to see a video discussing all the changes in detail for Patch 1.7 make sure to let me know by leaving a comment for it below.
Balance
So overall I think this patch has earned a thumbs up from me overall. If I had to rate the patch out of 10 I’d probably give it like a 7 or so. In the past I’d say the patches were closer to a 5 area. I think the game is headed in the right direction at a faster pace than I’d expect it to. Make sure as a community to keep leaving comments on socials or videos like this one expressing your thoughts on the patches as well.
Conclusion
I’ll be back next week with a new Friday NASB2 series of causal content so keep your eyes open for that, new YouTube Shorts and Tik Toks, as well as a wide array of Weekly events I have planned as well.

Will NASB2 Get a 2nd wave of DLC?
youtube
Fairplay labs the Developers of NASB2 have been tweeting pretty consistently since nasb2 was revealed, most of these have been pretty standard chill tweets that have been nothing more than memes, and announcements. However some recent ones keep repeating this one phrase: “the first wave”
These posts all were tweeted back to back between January 18th - January 30th despite the first DLC character Mr.Krabs releasing in February and no additional info on other characters from the first pass have even been given release windows besides confirming all would release by the end of 2024.
