Always love fics where Charles thinks he’s been clear about having Figured It Out but Edwin is oblivious/can’t open himself up to the pain of being possibly wrong so they’re like, open mouth kissing on the regular and at some point it comes out that Edwin just thought they were doing that as platonic besties

charles figures his feelings out and goes to ask edwin "soo, hypothetically, how would you want to be asked out?😏 " all flirty, but edwin does not catch the 😏 and thinks 'ah a hypothetical, so he's asking for my advice on how to ask crystal out'

he lets himself be petty and answers "….with a grand gesture. in public. the more people and the bigger the spectacle the better"

and charles is like "really? you're sure?"

"yes, I'm certain"

later on edwin feels guilty, so when charles asks him to come to some big public venue with him, like an opera or something, edwin grabs him and comes clean "I apologize charles, I let my jealousy get the best of me, I do not think crystal would actually like a grand gesture at all"

meanwhile charles, with his hand on the door handle to a gigantic event he organized for edwin, with crystal's and niko's help, "say what now, mate"

edwin ends up having to sit through a whole ghost opera dedicated to him, and although he's beet red the whole time, he actually ends up secretly liking it

the fact that charles spent the whole performance holding his hand certainly helped

(I don't think edwin would actually be this petty, he just wants charles to be happy, so this is mostly a crack au)

to the bone by @hartigays. POST CANON EDWIN HAS RESIDUAL PAIN FROM THE TORTURE MACHINEEE it's been a hot sec since i read it but i remember it's damn good. 10/10 i'm feral for the angst.

dulcet tones of broken bones by gremlininthemachine. cw: suicide & lots of heavy themes. it's inspired by 13 reasons why, post-canon. viscerally upsets me. i love it. 10/10 crying just thinking about it.

one dog's heaven is another squirrels hell by @cannibalisticcorpse. this is from way back when (read: may). super cute uni au. fluff, smidge of angst, dash of smut. 10/10 it heals something in me

the curious case of loving edwin by jj_queenie. pre canon then canon divergent, 5+1 fic. charles thinks he and edwin are dating. edwin did not get this memo. that golden mix of angst and love and devastation. 10/10 i've read it a half dozen times

the great snogging debacle of '95 by @prince-simon. this fic has everything: femme!edwin, masc!edwin, bisexuality???, pre-canon AND post-canon, love confession, love realization, and, of course, snogging. 10/10 it's cute AND emotionally intense. i love it

romance is dead by @dear-lucrow. CHARLES DECIDES EDWIN AND TCK NEED A CHAPERONE. IT'S FUNNY AND CUTE AND TAUGHT ME HOW TO SPELL CHAPERONE. 10/10 i had such a good time reading it

The scene in the forest where Charles uses his bat to destroy the mirrors and banish David is really cool, what if Charles used that in every confrontation in Port Townsend?

Esther? He didn't need to possess her because she was unconscious from a boomerang cricket bat to the head.

Cat King? Wasn't able to bind Edwin because he was unconscious from a boomerang cricket bat to the head.

Devlin Dad? How could he be stopped from axe murdering his family again and Charles avoid being caught in the loop? A boomerang cricket bat to the head of course.

Giant Sea Monster? To large to hit directly in head but attaching the music ball thingy to the bat and throwing it at the Monster will probably solve the issue.

I'm sure every other issue in the show could also be solved with a boomerang cricket bat if you think about it hard enough.
