the fact that shinobi literally grow up with their teammates, so when one of them dies in combat, it feels like losing a family member. 😭 sakura in particular has a closer bond with the rest of konoha 11 because they share these emotions as well, as opposed to her parents who don’t understand what it’s like to be a ninja. thus, she is extremely protective of her peers and has become more distant towards mebuki & kizashi because they just... don’t get it.. 💔

Sakura nods and takes the tube of gauze from her mentor, swiftly unrolling the full length of fabric before bundling it up and pressing it deep into a young chunin’s wound in an attempt to staunch his bleeding. It takes a moment of holding the materials firmly before the steady flow minimizes enough for Sakura to glance over at Tsunade and seek further directions.

❝ What should I do next, Lady Tsunade? ❞

She inquires, accidentally removing pressure from the wound site as she shifts slightly to get in a more comfortable position to see the Sannin. The pink-haired medic’s green eyes widen in shock as she notices the bleeding resumes and immediately searches for more gauze with a panic-filled expression.

❝ Oh no! I need more gauze… Where is it!? ❞

Even when Boruto demands she look, Sakura can’t help but to avert her gaze. She is unable to force her tearful green eyes to land upon the boy as he stands before her. No matter how hard she tries, the pink-haired doctor doesn’t see Sarada’s childhood best friend. All she knows is that he’s the one who killed Konoha’s 7th Hokage and Hinata Hyūga, as well as attacked their son, Kawaki. She mourns for the couple — her boisterous teammate & her soft-spoken friend — and hates Boruto for ending their lives, yet something within her heart fights against that fact. The resemblance between Boruto and Naruto, as well as their similar chakra signatures, brings reasonable doubt into Sakura’s analytical brain. For the first time in a long while, she lifts her head and looks at him.

❝ Boruto... ❞

Sakura’s breath hitches in her throat when she speaks his name, fabricated memories immediately dispelling from her mind. She peeks outside to ensure nobody is around to witness this next move before she opens her door wide enough for the boy to enter and signals for him to do so.
