I'm going to he completely honest about 2 things:

This is the best issue

Words cannot describe how insane this issue was an adding onto that, I feel that I cannot properly review this issue without giving spoilers

Avengers Academy #18 spoiler free review

I'm at an absolute loss for words due to how amazing this issue was. So much so that I don't really think I can give a good review without getting into spoilers. What I can say is that this issue has beautiful art, amazing writing, and a twist that'll knock you on your ass. I'm so excited to see how this arc ends

Reading the new Avengers Academy issue just confirmed what i have been thinking for a while, we need an escapade centric story about her idea of being disposable order to save lives, as if other mattered more than her.

Ever since her first appearance in the Pride issue she decides to go against her own ideals and opinions about the x-men and joins them just so she can have a chance to save her best friend in a future that wasn’t even fully accurate, but she without thinking once about herself she joins, just to be followed by her first mission out with the New Mutants.

Where again she takes place with Martha in getting her brain cut open because she believes that that is what she’s supposed to do, after all that’s what her powers are about right?

Then after everything we finally get to her introduction to the Academy, by again sacrificing herself for a woman she just met that was falling out of a plane, in the fraction of a second she decides to trade places and accept that it’s her time even asking Emma to not restrain her mind from the pain since that would prevent her from maintaining the change.

And an important thing to add here is her phrasing “I have to hold on”, it’s not that she believes that’s the correct thing to do, she believes it’s her responsibility, that she is fully accountable for the life of this woman, and you can see how she doesn’t want to do it, she is not ready to die but she has accepted that she will and have to.

So with that i believe that this week’s issue has a bigger weight and impact, it’s not just her having a plan with how to escape and that’s why she didn’t change places with Bri in the first place, she was convinced that whoever went with Emplate was done and that should be there, and now she is taking place in order to take place in being eaten with this random guy she just met.

With all this I truly hope they finally touch on her character and to why se believes she is the one who always has to sacrifice herself, even having Bri or someone else taking her place for once and not Shela being the one in place in order to help her understand that she is important and see the process of accepting this and putting boundaries and even make her a better planner, that every change she makes is because she knows how to get out and not just to die in place of someone else.
