The only reason I'm saying no is because every Microsoft Surface owner i ever talked to said it broke within 2 years from regular wear and tear. The specs are decent but if it's for college, it's not going to last long enough.
I would go with either an HP or Lenovo. They're pretty solid. Look for a bigger hard drive, minimum of 500GB (1TB if you can). I wouldn't go lower than an Intel i5 processor, i7 being the newest.
If you're okay with something refurbished, try this: HP Elitebook 1040 x360 G8 2-in-1 Laptop, 14" FHD 1000-NIT (1920x1080) SureView Intel Core i7-1185G7 512GB SSD 16GB RAM Win 11 PRO (Renewed) https://a.co/d/1mfdhjP
This one is just like a surface since you can still fold it up like a tablet.
If you're scared to do refurbished, look for that model (HP Elitebook x360) at Bestbuy or any other retailer.
Don't buy Microsoft 365 (Microsoft word) right away! Your school may pay for it. Look into that first before buying it!
Good luck!!!
can ppl who are tech-y tell me whether if not the surface laptop go 2 is a good laptop for an english major??

This setup really depends on your computer. Most newer laptops have the 3.5mm jack act as both the headphones (output), and the microphone (input). BUT some computers can only act as the output.
If your computer isn't recognizing the 3.5mm as a microphone, it may be because that port just can't do it.
Easiest solution: MillSO Headphone Mic Splitter, 3.5mm Headset Adapter (Microphone + Audio) 2 TRS Female to TRRS Male CTIA Stereo Jack Y Cable Compatible for Dual-Plug Gaming Headset to Xbox, PS4, Phone, Laptop, PC https://a.co/d/aOZPY2a
Or this: Plugable USB Audio Adapter with 3.5mm Speaker-Headphone and Microphone Jack, Add an External Stereo Sound Card to Any PC, Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux - Driverless https://a.co/d/affXIMU
Best of luck! Sorry that you need to spend more money, but I'm pretty sure that's your problem. The only other issue is with a defective unit, but that's highly unlikely.
Also, read up on the specs of your laptop and see if it lists anything about the 3.5mm jack and it being an integrated microphone port before buying anything. If it can be a microphone, it's a defective unit.
Best of luck!
Hey, any of you nerds know stuff about computers and microphones (probably both, not either)? I’m tryin to set up a aokeo ak-80 and my computer just won’t seem to acknowledge it exists.
Important details:
I have the whole phantom power box thing set up
Phantom power box’s power source is usb from my laptop
The output is an xlr to 3.5mm that’s plugged into my laptop’s audio jack
I would absolutely love to not spend any more money
Thank you besties 😘

I'm going to try to put it into english and in practical terms.
First off, ask yourself what you're putting on that USB. is it pictures, videos, documents, etc.?
Then, you gotta know the different sizes of storage. So you have megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), and terrabytes (TB). 1000MBs = 1 GB. 1000GB = 1 TB.
One picture is around 10MB. An hour of video is around 30GB, one 10 page document is around 1MB.
For example, one photo plus one 30 minute video is 30.01GB.
So if you're looking to store a lot of videos and photos, maybe 1TB of storage is great. Only files? Maybe 60GB is good. Just want to store a lot of stuff? 128GB. It's whatever is best for you. More is great but you don't need to break the bank.
Good brands of USB storage devices are SanDisk, Samsung, and PNY. Ive had pretty good luck with the Amazon basic sticks, but I haven't tried them long.
Hope this helps!
I want to get some USBs for storage and stuff but idk what any of these things mean
What’s a gigabyte?
How do I know I’m not getting scammed?
I’m so confused. Help

The fact that it doesn't take itself seriously is a fantastic thing! There was a post I saw the other day about how adults can watch DW and still feel the magic of it - like being a kid again. I myself am constantly ranting that there isn't enough "family" shows out there anymore. DW can be enjoyed by any age, loved by anyone, and has so much content due to its age that literally anyone can find something of personal value in it. And let's give DW some credit... I've had moments of pure awe when watching some episodes. I have cried, laughed, and learned some powerful messages myself through it. It may be a silly, goofy little show, but it has incredible moments. And you know? No one can say I'm wrong about that statement.
I immediately don't take anybody talking abt dw like it's prestige TV seriously no matter which era they're trying to prop up, like it doesn't Matter which part you like because that's wrong. It's a campy children's show that's got a cult following and 60 years worth of material, lets be Real.
Yes, it's good, but it is not ~for the Art~ you know? And it's not Trying to be that. And that's fine. That's good, even!

That’s Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. That’s because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.

if I wrote a dystopian novel where the corrupt evil megacorporation that controls society has a fucking smirk for a logo, my editor would tell me to use a less heavy-handed metaphor

One Night (2023) - Season 1 Episode 6
I don't want to scare you about what's out there. Or make you avoid people. I don't want you to flinch when someone touches you or... Comes up and tries to give you a hug. I don't want you to be scared of sleeping. I don't want you to be pulling out your hair or stopping eating or vomiting up every bit of nutrition. I don't want you to hate your skin. Or yourself. And I don't want you to avoid falling in love. But I don't want to lie to you either. I just want to protect you from the world but I don't know how to do that.

In highschool I wrote a story about a middle-generation of stellar travelers. Their parents were born on earth and left as children, and the middle generation will not live long enough to see their destination. They live their entire lives on the ship and I wrote about them trying to find their place in everything. They will never know blue skies and warm beaches and open fields with warm breezes. They’ll never know birdsong or crickets or frogs. They’ll never hear the rain on the roof of a dreary day. I never could find the right way to end the story. I wanted it to be a happy ending, but I didn’t know how to do it.
I realize now that it was a book about me dealing with depression before I even knew it. Looking back at how blatant the projecting was, it’s obvious now. It wasn’t then.
In the story, the middle-generation people are lost. They’re apathetic. They’re just a placeholder. The only job they have is to keep the ship running, have kids, and die. As the middle generation of people began becoming adults, suicide rates were skyrocketing. Crime and drug rates were jumping. This generation was completely apathetic because they felt that they had no use.
In the story, a small group of people in the middle-generation create the Weather Project. They turn the ship into a terrarium. They make magnificent gardens and take the DNA of animals they took with them and recreate them and they make this cold, metal spaceship that they have to live their entire lives on into a home. They take what little they have and they break it and rearrange it into something beautiful. They take this radical idea and turn the ship into a wonderful jungle of trees and birds and sunshine.
And I realize now how much it reflects my state of mind as I transitioned from a child into an adult while dealing with depression. You always hear “it gets better” and “when you’re older things will be easier” and I was so sick of waiting for it to get better. I was in the middle-generation stage. And I was sick of it. I was so sick of waiting.
When I was in highschool I didn’t know how to end the story. I didn’t know how to have a happy ending. I didn’t have the life experience then to finish the story in a meaningful way. I didn’t know how to make it better for these middle-generation characters.
But now that I’m older, I’m learning. That if you sit and wait for things to get better, it never will. You have to take your life and break it apart and rearrange it into something beautiful. You have to make the cold metal ship into the garden that you deserve. You have to make your own meaning. You have to plant your own garden.
You have to teach yourself that being happy is not a radical idea.
