From Rural Roots to Urban Dreams My Pursuit of a College Degree
As a 3rd-year college student at Arellano University, I reflect on the significant decision I made to leave my home province of Masbate and study in Manila. Growing up in a rural environment, life was simple and community-centered. While I cherish the memories and values from my hometown, I realized that to achieve my dreams, I needed to seek better opportunities, a higher quality of education, and a broader perspective on life.
Moving to Manila was not an easy choice. The thought of leaving my family, friends, and the familiar surroundings of Masbate was daunting. However, I knew that the city offered something that my province could notā€”access to top-notch education and the chance to immerse myself in a diverse and dynamic environment. The bustling streets, towering buildings, and the fast-paced lifestyle of Manila were both exciting and intimidating. But I was determined to make this leap, knowing it was a crucial step toward achieving my long-held goal of earning a degree.
The transition has been challenging. Adjusting to the urban lifestyle, managing the demands of university life, and dealing with the overwhelming pace of the city have all tested my resilience. There are days when I feel homesick, missing the tranquility of Masbate and the comfort of being surrounded by loved ones. Yet, I remind myself that these struggles are part of the journey I choseā€”a journey that will lead me to a brighter future.
Amidst these trials, the journey has been made significantly more bearable and fulfilling by the friendships I have forged along the way. The bonds I have built with fellow students have provided a much-needed source of support and encouragement. These friends, who come from diverse backgrounds and share similar ambitions, have become my anchors in this new chapter of my life. Their companionship has offered solace during moments of doubt and has been instrumental in helping me navigate the complexities of city living and academic pressures.
Though the road is not always smooth, I am willing to take these risks and face these challenges head-on. My dream of obtaining a degree is my driving force. I am confident that the experiences I am gaining here in Manila will not only help me achieve my academic goals but also mold me into a resilient and capable individual. The journey from Masbate to Manila is not just a geographical move; itā€™s a step toward fulfilling my aspirations and securing a better future.
