Have Your Cake & Eat It Too: Australian Desserts And Where To Have Them!
Australia is the ultimate foodie heaven- the best BBQ, sunshine (almost) all year long and iconic Aussie desserts and sweets! Let’s round up some of the best Australian desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth while in Sydney, some conventional and some slightly quirky- so you can have your cake and eat it too! We’ve undertaken the extremely hard task of sampling and compiling this list- for research purposes only.. *wink*
1. Pavlova
The elegant meringue-based Australian favourite with clouds of whipped cream and fresh berries is a summertime treat- and it’s always sunny in Sydney!
A lovely deconstructed Pavlova awaits onboard the Clearview glass boat dinner cruise in Sydney, it’s the swan song to a beautiful 8-course degustation dinner on this popular dinner cruise along the spectacular Sydney Harbour. Dig your spoon past the crisp crust into the soft and light inside with cream and fruit and get a taste of the heavens with this Chef’s special on a premium dinner cruise in Sydney!
2. Lamingtons
If there’s a cake that could claim an exclusively Australian passport, it’s a good-ol’ fashioned Lamington. With two pillowy squares of sponge cakes with jam, chocolate sauce and desiccated coconut flakes.
Head on over to the Lamington specialists and THE Lamington institution in the city of Sydney- LusciousKikis! Enjoy this delish Aussie dessert with a cold filtered iced coffee on the side. Unbelievably good stuff!
3. im Tams
Australia’s favourite biscuit has made its way from the grocery shelves right into our hearts. And now it has become one of the world’s most loved chocolate biscuits! Rush to a nearby grocery store and grab your favourite flavour- we love the Original and the Chocolate Hazelnut.
4. Fairy Bread
Simple with the right hint of nostalgia, this Australian childhood favourite is simple, pretty and damn delicious. Can very well be made at home, but let’s try some gourmet fairy bread in Daisy’s Milk Bar. Buttery triangles of bread topped with sprinkles are a fairly simple recipe but they do it right over here!
5. Caramel Slice
The caramel slice is available in almost every Australian cafe. The buttery flaky crust with the salted caramel pairs wonderfully and the Lindt Cafe in Cockle Bay Wharf serves a delicious slice- perfect with a warm cuppa on the side.
6. ANZAC Biscuits (Icecream sandwich)
Cookies with history- make it better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream sandwich between two ANZAC biscuits. YUMMY. If you know your way around a kitchen, bake these iconic biscuits by yourself at home- it isn’t particularly hard to make!
7.Chocolate Crackle
A common feature at birthday parties and school fetes are the Australian AND UPGRADED version of a rice crispies treat. This is one of those sweets that doesn’t need culinary expertise and is outright delicious!
Mesmerise yourself and your taste buds with the taste of Australian desserts! This is a must-do/ must-taste list around Sydney to make the most of your sweet tooth. Indulge in those cravings, give in- and you most certainly will not regret it!

New Oz Food Trends To Watch Out For In 2020!
2019 has been quite the year for the food scene in Australia and around the world. We’ve seen almost everything we love to eat and drink take on its goth phase with the addition of charcoal, molecular gastronomy with liquid nitrogen has infiltrated every dining establishment we know of and the avocado addiction is slowly wearing off. The last three years have been great for food, but with the turn of the decade slowly approaching, we know what’s coming.
Here are some of our predictions of Oz food trends to watch out for in 2020 and the upcoming decade:
1. Making it fancy
Elevating regular dishes with exotic ingredients
We’ve heard of truffles on top of everything- almost every gourmet dining establishment adds truffle shavings to make things better (and more expensive), but we’re thinking a little out of the box here!
One such ingredient is the tonka bean- so good. It’s popping up on menus all around Sydney- the Clearview Sydney Harbour lunch cruise does their spin on a tonka bean marquise beautifully. Absolutely safe to consume, this glass boat lunch cruise in Sydney makes a flourless chocolate sponge with a tonka bean ganache and tonka bean mousse, that is divine, to say the least! Other than this very popular Sydney glass boat lunch cruise, restaurants like Aria and Catalina also have dishes made of tonka bean on their menu.
2. Good Fat Loving
With the keto diet looming its head wherever you look, the hunt for newer fats ensues
Keto is the new Paleo. Remember when the paleo diet had us all eating like cavemen, quite literally?
Ghee is having its moment in the sun now, quite common in the Indian subcontinent, it has now become a global favourite! It’s made by simmering butter over a low heat for long enough. The milk solids end up caramelising- after which they’re strained and discarded leaving ghee goodness!
3. Meatless Mondays
Mainstream restaurants with numerous vegetarian and vegan options
Plant-based menus are blooming with several star restaurants serving a full vegetarian menu. Many people are consciously making the switch, even if it’s just for one day a week.
The replacement of meat and dairy with vegan alternatives made of nuts, soy, peas and jackfruit has ushered in a movement of its own.
Our favourite vegan joints in Sydney are Paperbark, Peppe’s and Yellow!
4. Meal Kits
Homemade meals, easier than ever before
Forget about asking the question ‘What’s for dinner?’ with a meal kit. You get all the properly measured out ingredients to prepare a gourmet meal at home- it doesn’t get easier than this! It’s ideal for those who are busy but still crave a home cooked meal and want the best. You get to customise your meal kit, choose the recipes you’d like to eat and just put it all together for a good stress-free meal!
5. Zero Waste Eating
Getting in on that environmentally friendly trend that’s good news for everyone!
Zero waste meals quite literally mean zero packaging, nothing processed and no waste. A few things that help are buying unpackaged foodstuff in bulk, make sure to carry your own containers.
Ultimately, if you try implementing a zero waste week, in practice, you’d realise exactly how challenging it is- and it is a dire need of the hour. We’re hoping, for the planet’s benefit, this trend is more than just a passing obsession. We hope it’s here to stay!
These may be the food trends that dominate the turn of the decade but we’re only just grazing the surface.

The Degustation Extravaganza: Sydney’s Best Degustation Menus
Degustation menus have quite the story- they’ve come a long way and Sydney knows how to do the degustation drama just right! There was a point in time when it was exorbitantly priced and only restricted to fine dining establishments, now it has infiltrated some of Sydney’s most loved spots. Here’s a round-up of our favourite degustation menus around Sydney:
1. Clearview Dinner Cruise along Sydney Harbour
This tops the list for one reason alone- in addition to the exquisite 8-course seafood-inspired degustation menu, you also get to experience a 3-hour Sydney Harbour dinner cruise on a glass boat!
The meal starts off in the SkyDeck of the glass boat wherein there’s a roving service of canapes and drinks. You get to enjoy spectacular Sydney Harbour views before you head on inside to enjoy the rest of the harbour dinner cruise from the spacious elegant dining saloons. Dinner is served and how! With meat, seafood and even vegetarian options, you’ll be glad you chose this Sydney Harbour dinner cruise to dine on a degustation menu.
Our favourite dishes on Clearview dinner cruise in Sydney: The beetroot ravioli (on the vegetarian menu) and the delicious deconstructed dessert extravaganza- one of the best Australian pavlovas there is!
2. EST.
Most fine dining establishments serve their meals with a side of pretentiousness, but not Est. With professional service, divine flavours and beautiful wine pairings, every plate here is a winner. Elegantly plated, exquisitely flavoured and complex yet familiar tastes come together to produce a winner of a dish; and they get it right every single time.
Our favourite dishes: Steak topped with truffles and the passion fruit souffle!
3. Automata
If you run a search for a degustation menu in Sydney online, I’d presume that Automata would be the first one to pop up. So, what’s so special about it, you ask? The modern and refined decor makes it a hot favourite among the millennials, in addition to the regular crowd that fine dining restaurants generally cater to.
The 7-course degustation menu is a crowd favourite- making it a must-do for special occasions! Every course is well thought out and the beverage pairing by the experienced sommelier makes it all come together beautifully.
Our favourite dish: The first course stole the show- absolutely sublime starters!
4. Sixpenny
Seven courses- all that can give Michelin star chefs a run for their money. Everything on your plate is tastefully thought out and it shows! A heaven for seafood lovers- with unbelievable wine pairings. They use seasonal ingredients to prepare top quality meals that are worth every cent.
Our favourite dish: The swordfish had us drooling!
5. Blanca
An impeccable 8 or 10-course degustation menu at Blanca is sure to convince you why Australia is the food capital of the world. At a price that’s of great value, it’s a visual and gustatory delight.
Our favourite dish: Lip smacking good salmon and scallops rice cracker!
You only live once- so splurge while you get the chance on these splurge-worthy degustation menus around Sydney.

Read This Before Finalising Your Next Christmas Party Venue In Sydney!
Ah, come December and there’s just a typical cheer in the air! The sunny Sydney summer skies heralds with it the excitement and celebration of a typically Southern Hemispheric Christmas!
That wonderful time of the year where we spend time with our loved ones, or sometimes with our fellow prisoners from our 9 to 5 jobs (‘colleagues’ is the colloquial term for this, right?). The much-awaited, sometimes dreaded Christmas party season is almost here. Decor, entertainment and food are important aspects of any party but the venue is something you must lock down at the soonest. December is party season and venue matters.
Eventually, what it all finally boils down to, is the venue- your Christmas soiree location can make or break your party!
Here’s a list of Sydney’s most festive and unique Christmas party spots:

Enter Christmas Party Harbour Cruises in Sydney- all you need to do is book online, get ready and show up. A good time ensues as soon as you’re on board! Choose to cruise either on a multi-million dollar catamaran serving a delicious buffet dinner and drinks or on a premium glassboat offering 360° views of the harbour where you can indulge in a 8-course seafood inspired degustation menu with drinks! The picture perfect Aussie family Christmas photo on the beach awaits. Set against the spectacular Bondi Beach backdrop, with surfing Santas, a beach barbie and sunny skies- a very merry Australian Christmas indeed.
3. A Very Merry Bridge Climb
Scale new heights this Christmas- on the summit of the Sydney Harbour Bridge! Spend Christmas enjoying the same views as Santa- the aerial views he enjoys as he zooms past on his reindeer-driven sleigh! This is also an excellent opportunity to shed off those dreaded holiday calories.
It doesn’t come cheap but it doesn’t hurt to spend on a once-in-a-lifetime experience this Christmas!

5. A Sea-nic Christmas- Carols by the Sea
The most homely Christmas bazaar, Carols by the Sea is an annual event wherein you feel part of a loving community. Featuring entertainment from local musicians and lots of singing and caroling, don’t forget to bring along a cheery Christmas spirit and carol baritones! What’s best is all the proceeds go towards local charities. The stunning view doesn’t hurt either!

Christmas Party Cruises on Sydney Harbour
Christmas is the most exciting time of year and is the perfect occasion to exchange gifts or host a party. Whether you’re planning an event for your family or in charge of organizing an office Christmas Party, a dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour in amazing warm weather is a fail-proof decision. There are numerous Christmas Party cruises in Sydney and each cruise is individual and special in its own way. Celebrate Christmas Day with your loved ones on board all-inclusive Christmas Day cruises on Sydney Harbour.
Christmas season is the apt time to visit Australia, especially Sydney where the weather is just perfect and filled with ecstatic events and parties. The very mention of the festival of joy, ‘Christmas’, brings with it the memories of the night sky sprinkling pellets of snow and the winter coats that we used to cuddle in, but in Australia things are different owing to it being summer. Hence, Christmas Down Under is all about bright sunny skies & busy beaches. People in Australia spend their holiday time getting the perfect tan while the rest of the world is involved in creating snowmen which have turned into an informal symbol of the festive season. Falling towards the beginning of the summer holidays, Christmas in Aussieland allows parents and children to spend ample time together.
Altering the concept of celebrating Christmas, which is quite different from the usual Christmas Eve celebration, people started a trend to party from the beginning of the month till 26th of December where they conclude the “Christmas celebration” by a custom of unboxing presents, hence naming the last day of Christmas merriment as “Boxing Day”.
Sydney Harbour is the best place to be if entertainment is on your list. The biggest Christmas parties are held on the harbour and majority of them are on board Sydney’s spectacular Christmas party dinner cruises. Invite your staff or colleagues to enjoy stunning harbour sights and ambience of the Christmas season by hosting glamorous Christmas parties on Sydney’s sought-after luxury dinner cruises. Sydney’s premium glass boat vessel is the best choice as it has what all it takes to provide a memorable party for all your guests. The fully air-conditioned vessel with a glass-paned dining saloon provides 360° views and ample space, making it one of the most desirable Christmas Party venues in Sydney.
Relax and dine on board a stunning glass boat and enjoy panoramic views of Sydney Harbour. The Christmas Eve buffet menu served on the table by amiable waiting staff will ensure that even the pickiest of food critics are satisfied. The selection of beverage options ranging from a choice of beer, wine and soft drinks adds to the reasons why the glass boat stand out from the rest.
As Christmas is the busiest time of year, it’s important to book your seat well in advance, especially if you’re planning to cruise on a weekend.
