Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron - A review
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Where to even begin with this one! Everything about this book has my heart. The storytelling was amazing and had me gripped almost immediately. The book hits on many real world issues such as living as a LGBTQ+ person a misogynistic ‘man led’ society, however at no point did it feel preachy. It was great to read a story that deconstructs the myths behind fairy-tale and how the story’s we read as children and the messaging we are given can greatly affect our views and who we become. The only small criticisms I have of this book is that it definitely felt a little slow at times and also a little fast at times and it sometimes struggled to find that balance, however this didn’t really affect how enjoyable I found this book. It’s basically queer girls overthrow the misogynistic patriarchy and I definitely recommend, in fact I beg you to go and pick up a copy of this book.

We Contain Multitudes by Sarah Henstra - A review
Rating: ⭐️
So I wanna start by saying that elements of this book where incredibly well written. Some of the thoughts and feelings brought up are incredibly thought inducing and profound, usually this was the case within the letter Jonathan writes to Kurl. However this felt unrealistic and made it hard to connect to his character no matter how hard I tried. The book being told threw letter and therefore told mostly in the second person made it really difficult for me to get into the story and believe these characters and their story. Things that had happened between the boys where often described at great length threw the letter which of course is to inform the reader but it just added to my feeling of disconnect, why would you describe to someone a situation they were involved with? Parts of this story also just felt incredibly fetished and a lot of the sexual content felt like it didn’t need be there, especially with the age gap which it made it even more uncomfortable. Overall I just really didn’t enjoy this one and I wouldn’t recommend.

Books I have read so far this year
A quick insight of into the books I’ve gotten threw so far this year (full reviews coming soon!)
Ok so this was my first book this year and I throughly enjoyed it! A cute LGBT romance story. TW the story does have a cover a dementia theme.
Star rating: ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was second read of the year and I have so much love for this story! I finished this book in a day, I couldn’t put it down. It deals with themes of being a LGBTQ+ teen and religion. A truely beautiful (but heartbreaking at time) story. Definitely a TW for a homophobia and homophobia within religious settings.
Star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
And now the most recent book I have finished. I loved this story. It felt great to feel seen as a non-binary person and I greatly appreciate the representation. This books does deal with mental health and a teen being kicked out and the trauma that causes. This book definitely has a special place in my heart.
Star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
