Rave & Repeat
The 2000s club kid
For Spring 2015 NYFW, it was prevalent that the rave culture infiltrated the runways. Instances when “the streets” trickle up to be portrayed in the high fashion world can be rare. But the influence of designers and Fashion Week spreads like wildfire for mass production to recreate this “look” and style — a stimulant for the already growing EDM culture. The sampling of its production affects responses of those already part of the culture. Will it be embraced? Will it be shunned? When something becomes too mainstream, especially when deeply rooted in the underground, it eventually becomes out of fashion.
However, the rave culture is the most unique when it comes to catalyzing fashion. Unlike other musical-influenced subcultures that go hand-in-hand with people’s style, rave is a culture that has an indefinable identity. It is about sensory experiences, and the culture is reflective of this — fashion/style, parties, music, drugs, etc. It is also interesting to note the difference in experiences according to decades when it comes to raves. The difference or emphasis between a rave in the 90s, versus early 2000s, versus today. How has fashion changed? How has internet influenced rave? How has fast fashion and mass production influenced the culture? And how does identity tie in?

lifestyle and brand voice product narrative/description for dollskill.com.
As of September 2015, I have written and launched over 1,500 products so far in a year span.
about dollskill:
Inspired by the perpetual revenge of young girl fantasy, Dolls Kill is an active subversion of the fashion industries "norm". Whether she is experimenting with fashion, music or sexual identity, the Dolls Kill customer can be seen aggressively fighting the higher power and unapologetically raising hell wherever she goes. Here is where you will find clothing inspiration pulled from the digital Tumblr girl world, bad acid trips, underground counterculture and stylized gutter punks. Navigate through the site and unleash your inner riot girl at an online shopping destination unlike anywhere else.

The current narrative of my research is about rave culture. This is for you my PLUR livin’, Kandi Kids! This week is focused on Marc by Marc Jacobs SS15. Snippets below. —-
What liberated in Marc by Marc Jacob’s Spring 2015 collection was an idealism of youth, an escapist principle that transcends when it comes to rave culture.
The rave culture is the most unique when it comes to catalyzing fashion. Unlike other musical-influenced subcultures that go hand-in-hand with people’s style, rave is a culture that has an indefinable identity. It is about sensory experiences, and the culture is reflective of this — fashion/style, parties, music, drugs, etc.
Of a culture that has been seen as indefinable by style, constantly transforming its look decade by decade, are there garments and even price-points to be considered more authentic? When it’s all about PLUR, is rave culture foremost about the sensory experiences and BPM, making fashion irrelevant to its expression? (at ## streetbasics.tumblr.com ##)
