Chaquis Maliq is making music for every occasion. There is no commitment to any genre, when is comes to Maliq creating sounds for people to enjoy. This new track, ‘Crazylegs’ is obviously dedicated to those who love to roller skate and display their choreography skills. The lyrics contain elements that capture the nuance of Cali skaters and rink skaters, with a nod to modern dating. This song is definitely a summer bop for your speakers. If you love the track, make sure you support by purchasing.

EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band Live : The Album
Since the earlier years of Chaquis Maliq's career, there was definitely a desire to have a live album. Maliq's first project, circa 2006, The Demonstration Vol. I (no longer available to the public) was the live vision of a seasoned
songstress. The Demonstration Vol. I displayed self-produced full band production, live audience samples from Maxwell's Live album, while adding in crowd vocals, plus background singing and arrangements on every track.
The EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band Live album is the humble and utter opposite. A stripped down and intimate performance without an audience, because in 2020, as we know it, was the height of COVID-19. The opportunity to record arose just a year after Maliq's second Sofar Sounds show, which offers a live audience and video footage. With that experience added to the EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band's performance resume, it was now time to do it in Charleston at The Gaillard Center.
If you have had the chance of seeing Chaquis owning the stage, then you know that Maliq speaks to the audience in between songs, with music still playing in the background, resembling the execution of full bands. This album includes this vibe, and your ear drums will feel like Chaquis Maliq is singing and speaking directly to you. If you are new to the EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band; Chaquis Maliq sings, plays guitar, plays the cajon, and tip taps foot instruments, simultaneously.
“I wasn't sure about putting out this project because I didn't think (at first listen) I sounded my best. I was unaware of the ailments that occurred during the time of the recording. But while mixing at home, I thought about how Ms. Lauryn Hill's unplugged album made me and others feel; although (reportedly) Ms. Hill performed with a ripped throat.” -Chaquis Maliq

Writing a song instead of covering a song; is important to authentic songwriters.
Chaquis Maliq decided to write from a point of view, that is relatable to those who envision what their first Christmas would be like with their special person.
“It doesn’t snow where I live, so that isn’t an inspiration to me. But imagining a practical experience, such as a micro get-together with laid-back fun folks, or just one other person; is something I could look forward to and manifest, for myself and my listeners. Gift exchanges, games, and eats!” -Chaquis Maliq

The Survival of the EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band During Covid-19
COVID-19 has impacted everyone differently and has definitely been a drag for me. Some may have not been affected at all. While some effects are horrifically worse than others; I wanted to thank the colleges and universities that have booked me through Neon Entertainment, despite all the challenges of this pandemic, world-changing events, and tragedies that have yanked us out of our element.
I was so ready to go on my college tour after playing the 2019 NACA Mid-America showcase in Kentucky. But then everything changed for me in October. A natural disaster happened hours before the show, and it was canceled while I was en route. Then a local book festival’s private event.

ACOUSTIC HONEY-SOUL
Soul-funk-rock singer Chaquis Maliq begins as many musical stories do
The story of soul-funk-rock singer Chaquis Maliq begins as many musical stories do: With the protagonist picking up a guitar. She quickly became adept at a jazzy, unpredictable style on the six-string acoustic, using it to accompany her ecstatic, elastic vocals and working in some pounding foot-percussion to accompany herself. That's where her "EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band" concept was born, as Maliq cultivated a solo sound that feels more like a tight-but-loose ensemble than one performer. Since coming up with that winning setup back in 2014, Maliq has proven to be a surprisingly flexible performer. Her 2018 single "You Can't" is a study in minimalism, with a wild, fiery vocal, probing bursts of acoustic guitar, and a foot-stomp rhythm. But if you go back to her 2016 full-length album, Resilience Eludes Death, you'll hear a fuller version of Maliq's sound that brings in salty electric guitars, buoyant bass lines, and thicker percussion, with her acoustic-guitar-and-vocals nucleus still intact. That style has earned Maliq various kudos and opportunities, including a 2016 City Paper Music Award nomination for Soul/R&B Act of the Year, a 2012 RAW Artist Baltimore Musician of the Year nomination, slots on various festival bills around the country, and an opening slot with NPR Music's Best of Tiny Desk-winning neo-soul outfit Tank & the Bangas. Maliq calls what she does in her one-woman performances "Eccentric tasteful grooves and honey soul," and it's difficult to think of a more apt description. Regardless of the labels, it's a compelling synthesis of direct, mysterious, folksy, and full-on soulful. —Vincent Harris for Charleston City Paper.

Chaquis Maliq Eludes Nervousness with Sofar Sounds Audience
2019 marks the 10 year anniversary of Sofar Sounds conception. After 7 years of touring, Charleston’s EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band received an invitation to play the world’s favorite secret show franchise. Monday, April 29, 2019, Sofar Sounds-Gainesville welcomed Chaquis Maliq’s debut with an unbiased embrace; which was an equivalent expression to Maliq’s first Atlanta performance on the Freedom Stage at Inman Park Festival, just two days earlier.
The EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band is a regular to outdoor events, which includes festivals, such as: Columbia Festival of the Arts-Maryland, Columbus Arts Festival-Ohio, Ohio State Fair, Festival of Friends-Canada, Takoma Park Folk Fest-Maryland, SweetGrass Cultural Arts Fest-South Carolina, Spring Fling-South Carolina, South Sounds Music Fest-Alabama; just to name a few. These types of venues give artists the freedom to hold nothing back from their audience, versus scaling back a live performance for a house concert.
‘Music and Me’ is a tune that Maliq has been performing for years, and has evolved simultaneously with the growth of the EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band. The song was introduced to Charleston, January 17, 2019, when Chaquis Maliq opened for Grammy nominated producer and songwriter duo, Louis York (Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony), and Entertainment Weekly’s Artist to Watch, The Shindellas; at the Charleston Pour House. Maliq had no problem rocking the stage and getting “Chucktown” to be a part of the call and response segment of the song.
Unlike most music venues with patrons drinking and chatting, Sofar Sounds is a listening environment. Seating is often on the floor, right under the performer’s nose. Not leaving much personal space, in some cases. While the musician soaks up the silence of the room, belting vocals are prohibited. Chaquis Maliq found the avenue to perform through the nervousness of dead silence, by inviting the audience to join in ‘Music and Me.’
Check out the story behind Maliq’s experience at Hot Mic Blog and personal details not included in the blog, on Instagram.

Chaquis Maliq to Headline People Against Rape Performing Arts Gala
Most artists have a story to tell before they make it to the industry’s level of success. Although it may not always be reflected in their music, Chaquis Maliq definitely has a narrative that is perceived as normality, and in no way should any form of abuse be considered a standard.
Fleeing from a terrifying domestic violence and sexual abuse situation, only to end up in South Carolina, a state that seems to stay in the top 10 of violence and death against women by the hands of men; Maliq has discovered a path to healing.
People Against Rape has been a tool in the EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band’s road to restoration through, art introductions, which led to Chaquis Maliq’s first poetic speech of reflection and musical performance with My Sister’s House, Inc., Walk A Mile in Her Shoes, and a second with the Ada’s Daughter Society Luncheon, followed by a musical performance with Marion’s House, an organization that focuses on young children and adolescent sexual trauma.
“We were blown away by your inspiring story and powerful voice at our Walk A Mile in Her Shoes event” - My Sister’s House, Inc.
With the tremendous support from People Against Rape, and their survivor programs, which Ms. Maliq has been a part of as a survivor, it is now time for the EccentroSoul 1 Woman Band to give back. Chaquis Maliq will headline PAR’s 2nd Annual Performing Arts Gala and Silent auction for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Thursday, April 18, 2019, at The SchoolHouse, Charleston, SC, 6:00 PM. Tickets are available at:

In January, Chaquis Maliq “had the stage ready..”, for Louis York and The Shindellas, Charleston debut. Maliq is an NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest Charleston favorite. Selected as the opening act of the Sold Out show at Lagunitas Taproom Charleston (now closed), May 22nd, 2017 for the TDC Winner, Tank and the Bangas; Chaquis Maliq proves that the 1 Woman Band is capable of commanding a stage and receives a pretty huge compliment from NPR’s CMO, via twitter.
