Luxury Watches - Why its the right time to buy!
Luxury Swiss watchmakers are grappling with sluggish sales in some Asian markets since the last quarter of 2014.
This is not the news they want but is great news for anyone who wants to grab a bargain luxury watch in the Euro-zone where almost a third of Swiss luxury watches are exported to..
The Asian market accounts for over a quarter of the luxury sales market and a downturn there means a push in sales elsewhere, leading to offers and special incentives to buyers in Europe & the USA.
Its not only Luxury watchmakers who have had a downturn in sales in the asian markets, other luxury items have suffered, with falls in sales from American luxury brand Tiffany & UK luxury retailer Burberry.
So while sales in the Asia Pacific region of luxury watch brands declined in the last quarter of 2014, Europe benefited from a return of tourist shoppers & discerning purchasers looking to invest in quality items.
However long-term, the Luxury brands know their stability and none more so than Patek Philippe; who have announced plans this week to spend 450 million francs to expand its facilities in Geneva.
Add that news to the fact that the luxury car market has been left largely unaffected by the recent global economic downturn, with Rolls Royce announcing a record year in 2014; and you have proof positive that True luxury will never lose its worth!
Make 2015 the year your wrist is as stunning as the rest of your ensemble!

Reciprocal Giving
Just having a quick look at some peoples choices when it comes to watches, we can usually assume a fairly accurate idea about the type of people who will without question wear a Rolex, Breitling, Cartier or similar Luxury timepiece..
Be it a European top Model, an American actor or a member of the British Royal family there is one thing in common between them: the passion for quality, fashion and the distinction of wearing a renowned brand.
Maybe a wristwatch says more about who you are than any other item you choose to wear or the car you decide to drive... Clothes are subject to fashion and wear off quickly, cars need to be functional and when you do buy one you know it will lose most of its value very soon.
A quality Luxury Watch will be forever and the design will be with you no matter which stage of your life you are in.
There are many different types of people that is for sure, but when it comes to luxury watches like the ones mentioned above, you will find those who wear such watches, do so as if it is part of themselves, they are discerning individuals with character traits similar to the watches they own.
They usually look into what the watch and its brand mean; the type of people who wear a watch as part of their very self.
Watches like Rolex, Breitling or Cartier are generally regarded as a privilege by those who do not own one. Therefore the watch becomes a sign of class & reputation, saying much more about their owners than anybody will think at first sight.
If the person with a Rolex for instance, is not one of those who just want to impress and show off, then it means he / she is the type of person who can handle their success and social status without flaw. The timepiece is also usually worn with little regard by the wearer, as if the whole meaning of owning such a timepiece has been forgotten, or is of little relevance.
There is reciprocal giving between the luxury brand and the watch wearer: both contribute to the status and reputation of the other at the same time..

Stepping into 2015 - A Luxury watch is what you need to have!
You pay for your stylish haircut, you buy the latest fashions but when it comes to your watch most people settle for whatever ticks.
This should change!
Cheap watches should be a thing of the past.
They rust, run out of battery relatively quickly and can make your wrist go green. Branded, Luxury watches are a must have and regarding their price tag; you really get what you pay for.
So ditch your old and dated watch, it's time to get a quality watch that really makes your heart tick!
One of the first names that will pop up when you think of watches is Rolex.
Supporters of Wimbledon 2014 and providing stunning and glamorous timepieces; a Rolex will fill you with pride as you strut around with it on your wrist.
Cartier and Breitling also have very nice subconscious overtones of wealth, plenty, quality and style, completely up there with qualities akin to Rolex, these highly sought after brands will have your eyes (and jealous friends eyes) glittering as much as the watches do.
These big guns are a must on your fashion hit list!
Make 2015 the year your wrist is as stunning as the rest of your ensemble!

Christmas Gifts
What type of Watch is the best to buy for the person who has everything?
If you are having trouble deciding on a gift for Christmas, especially as your partner or friend seems to have everything already; a good suggestion would be to buy a luxury watch.
A watch from Rolex or Breitling amongst others, is an excellent option because it is not only practical and fashionable at the moment, but will also prove to be a long-term investment for the future.
Practicality
Even with the ever-growing technological world of smart phones, having a watch is still considered reasonable. In fact many people still own watches and high-end luxury watches are both fashionable and investible.
Giving a gift like this to a person who seems to have everything is also a way to celebrate their success. People who wear and appreciate watches understand the luxury brands and having a Rolex or Breitling adorning your wrist at a dinner or wedding shows that you are doing well in society.
Reputation
Most luxury watch brands are synonymous with glamour, reputation & refinement, they are also a product which over the years will not lose its value. Unlike many other expensive gifts, a luxury watch usually has a constant & steady value.
Long-Term Investment
When you are giving a luxury watch as a gift, you are not only giving the person a gift for now; the watch itself will last for much longer than a cheaper version may and it also acts as an investment if the person would like to (or need to) sell it in the future. Luxury watch brands such as Rolex, Breitling, Cartier, etc have shown an increase in retail prices even during the recent years of financial uncertainty.
Also, as the underling style usually stays the same for these brands, it is a sound investment that will not fade in time, along with a status symbol which can be worn for many many years.
Buying a luxury watch as a gift will show that you not only care about a person’s current situation, but also their future. It is a thoughtful and personal gift, which shows you put in extra effort selecting the present.

Investing in a watch that retains its value.
First of all, if you are buying a new watch as a form of investment, you may find that firing your current investment advisor will be one of the best ways to save money unless they advise extremely wisely on which brand to buy!
Much in the same way as a new car significantly depreciates the second you drive it on a road, the minute you place that new watch on your wrist, or even unbox it, you can expect to write off a large piece of the value there and then.
However, this isn't to say that you cannot find a watch that is stylish, effective and will retain its value over the years; you just need to be smart.
You may think that an ostentatious watch that grabs the attention is the best watch to invest in, but this isn't the case. Watches that are over-styled and are on trend for a particular fashion will depreciate rapidly. If you are focused on retaining value in a watch, you should aim for a conservative watch, and ideally, but it pre-owned, which will provide you with a better starting point for retaining the value of the watch.
You also want to buy a watch from a recognised brand that has developed their reputation over a number of years. While it is impossible to ascertain the future, the main names in the watch industry that have been around for a long time are likely to be the names that will stay around for a long time. This means you can choose brands like Rolex, Cartier, Patek Philippe & Breitling with the greatest of confidence.
Every watch will need to be examined and evaluated on its own merits and condition, but sticking to a tried and tested name with a conservative style and model will provide you with an excellent platform for enjoying a watch that maintains its value.
We are premium watch & jewellery specialists & can offer free advice on just the right watch for you.

3 Luxury Watches to add to your collection
The Breitling Navitimer
Breitling's famous Navitimer, was first introduced in the early 50’s with an innovative chronograph design capable of executing every calculation a flight plan requires.
It is favoured by many connected with aviation and is considered one of; if not the most reliable watch ever produced.
This classic watch is still in production and still has the signature beveled sides, with an intricate slide rule; which was once essential for pilots and navigators.
This timepiece has been worn by James Bond himself on many occasions.
Rolex Sky Dweller
Unveiled relatively recently (2012), the Sky Dweller has become a much adored and revered timepiece.
Drawing heavily on the Day Date style, The Sky Dweller brings its own unique enhancements, particularly its calendar function, allowing the dial to display both an annual calendar and dual time.
Months are also displayed on the dial, with the corresponding times – for instance 3 o'clock would be month 3, March.
The Sky Dweller not only has the above mentioned calendar features, but also has the ability to tell time for two different time zones.
Overall this piece is not only extremely functional, it is stunningly beautiful, appearing in many styles to suit many tastes, including an 18k white gold piece with a champagne dial and a gorgeous everose gold piece with a chocolate dial.
Cartier Vendome
Cartier has always symbolised style and class and the Cartier Vendome is no exception.
With a feminine round case fashioned from a solid 18k yellow gold it simply exudes timeless elegance.
The Vendome features a clean white dial with the signature Cartier black Roman numerals along with with a reliable and precise Quartz movement.

Time-Telling Smartphone Watches v Timeless Timepieces
Apple’s unveiling this week of the new Apple SmartWatch definitely announced the company’s intention to infiltrate the luxury watch market.
Having viewed the introduction; you can clearly see it has a variety of faces and watchbands that resembles a cross between a type of faddy jewelery & a number of techy gadgets.
So lets be honest, unbelievably, the Apple IWatch, is plunging head first into a market where the main product is & almost always has been a fashion status symbol.
With regards to luxury watches & the market for them, the Smartwatch may well affect the lower end ranges, such as those costing £200 - £500, where the purchaser demographic has changed & affluence is no longer needed to warrant the wearing of them. However these mid-ranges have been losing relevance for a number of years already, so it's no surprise to anyone in the Luxury Watch markets.
Clearly nowadays, the affluent in society no longer need a wristwatch to tell them the time. However, now more than at any time previously, the wearing of a quality timepiece such as Rolex, Breitling or Cartier, is about exuding wealth & status.
A little bit of research finds that Swiss watchmakers are not too worried, as the demand for quality luxury watches has changed very little over the last decade. In fact according to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry, The exports of mechanical watches, which tend to be much more expensive than the battery-powered kind, have almost quadrupled in value and tripled in volume since the early noughties!
So what if Apple gets wind of this & decides to "Bling" a Smart-watch. Maybe layer in Gold or encrust in diamonds? Would that win over the more discerning buyer? We think not.
Most Apple products have a 2 - 5 year life span & the depreciation value is horrible - just think about your iphone & what you would get as a re-sale value after 3 years.... High-end watches are built to last, with many boasting a lifetime guarantee
We think these quotes sum this up perfectly.
Make the workmanship surpass the materials. Ovid
No good thing of any kind shows it best face at first. No the most common quality of a true work of art is that it has excellence and depth. Thomas Carlyle
Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. Gucci Family Slogan
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives. William A. Foster

Sir Jackie Stewart & his relationship with ROLEX
Sir Jackie Stewart bought his first Rolex in May 1966 when on the way home from the Indianapolis 500, he stopped off in Texas & spent his winnings.
He remembers: “It was a Gold Day Date with a president bracelet which was pretty fancy for me to buy in those days. But the Rolex was a symbol of me thinking that I have got enough money to buy something this exclusive.”
So after many years of struggling to be the racing driver he knew he could be; This was when he believed he was making it as a premium racer & would be in this arena for many years to come; The purchase of the Rolex marked this as FACT & by 1968 he had emerged as Britain’s top driver.
After a number of successes, Jackie was approached by Rolex’s Andre Heiniger to ask if he would allow Rolex to use his likeness as an ambassador for the brand.
The interesting thing about this relationship is the longevity - Jackie Stewart has passed the 40 year mark of being a brand ambassador for Rolex. Something the fine timepiece makers are not known for, In fact Mr Stewart says: “Rolex are famous for not overdoing their relationship of any of their people.”
In all editorial regarding Jackie Stewart & his relationship with Rolex, you can clearly see this is much more than a brand enhancing contract, there is a personal fondness & respect forged over decades & Mr Stewart has oft been heard to say he would attend Rolex events & wear the watches without payment & without the ambassador role.
He often compares the Ambassadors to the Rolex company itself, ie high quality who are at the top of their skill set.
He cites his favorite pieces as his Stainless steel GMT-Master, A Rose Gold Daytona & his Green Day Date.

A very special Rolex for James Cameron
They say important people wear Rolex watches, but how important do you need to be in order to have one made in your honor?
It doesn't happen very often at all, yet on August 4th, 2014, Rolex did something very “un-Rolexy” by not only releasing a new version of a watch in the middle of the year (usually all new Rolex watches are released exclusively at the Baselworld trade show in March); they also dedicated it in honor of James Cameron - Film Director Extraordinaire.
There are many many famous brand ambassadors for Rolex, including Sports men & women and fashionista's across the globe, however none of these have had this special accolade.
Rolex have never usually played along by the "Brand Ambassador" rule of thumb, whereby they receive a Limited edition timepiece before a launch etc, as many other makers do... But it seems times may be changing at "The Crown" as Mr Cameron isnt even an official Ambassador, yet has received this high accolade.
The newest Rolex is the Deepsea D-Blue Dial watch, which is based on the standard Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea 116660 watch, but has a unique dial that starts blue at the top and using a gradient goes to black. “D-Blue” likely stands for “diving blue” and the color change on the dial is in reference to a very special event.
James Cameron will release a new movie shortly, entitled Deepsea Challenge 3D and in advance of the release Rolex has announced this new version of their Deepsea timepiece for the occasion.
James Cameron wore a Deepsea watch on his wrist, and on the outside of a submersible in 2012, when he was filming for the aforementioned movie. However the prototype watch known as the Rolex Deepsea Challenge was an experimental dive watch which was being tested & looked like a super-sized version of the normal Deepsea, but was designed to withstand the massive pressure of being down to a maximum of 12,000 meters under water.
The Rolex Deepsea D-Blue Dial watch is the first time Rolex has engineered such a relationship & the connection with James Cameron as well as his Deepsea Challenge 3D movie is new & innovative from this Luxury Watch making community.
